“Kauai is magical and the Hanalei Surfboard House was perfect in”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2014

I have been visiting Kauai for years. Hanalei Surfboard House is by far the best accommodations. I will continue to book my vacation (in advance) at the Hanalei Surfboard House! The room was comfortable, tranquil, exceptionally clean, and set in a beautiful garden setting. Simon was a gracious host. He has thought of everything we might need to make our stay most comfortable. From bath products to beach chairs etc. There was even a bag of local coffee beans! My new favorite coffee. Not to mention the famous Hanalei Bay is just across street! This was the most perfect and magical vacation ever! Thanks a million to Simon at The Hanalei Surfboard House for sharing a piece of paradise!

“My favorite place to stay in hanalei!”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2014

Magical. Peaceful. Beautiful. Perfect. This is my favorite place to stay in hanalei. I visit kauai a lot and have stayed in a lot of Places and this is the first place I check for openings. Everything about it is creative, comfortable, relaxing..enjoyable. I wish they would come decorate my house. It's just so freaking cool. I'm not a review writer. This is the first review I have ever written In my life...and it's only because I love this place so much I couldn't keep it secret. It's a peaceful healing spot, fun and sun and the best bay in the World are right out your door. Thank you hanalei surfboard house! Thank you! Kyle

“A Very Special Christmas”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2014

We stayed in the Elvis suite this past Christmas through New Years for 12 nights. Our time in Hanalei was magical. Simon Potts, the proprietor of the Surfboard House, is a master of mood and that is what makes his property so special. The carefully curated aesthetic, evident in the lush landscaping, local bath products, Roxy Music Cd's, etc., is a study in effortless execution that somehow eludes kitsch. Most mornings were spent running on the beach before visiting the Dolphin market to pick up a new local fish to grill that evening in our suite's backyard BBQ. Afternoons were spent reading on the beach down the block past an andy Irons mural. Early evenings usually involved Mai Tai's at Tahiti Nuti a half mile away. You have everything you could possibly need in your suite. The water pressure in the shower is perfect, the wi-fi signal is strong, the washer has locally produced organic detergent, and the rooms are sound proof with a plush comfortable bed. Simon is always somehow around and helpful without ever being intrusive. He even had a half pound of coffee from Hanalei Coffee Roasters for us upon our arrival to grind and brew our first morning. Simon said it best-he's stayed all over the world on a record company expense account when that still meant something. So, he understands the small nuances that make accommodations special. It's difficult to articulate but can be summed up in something as simple as a takeaway tote hanging in your suite's closet with the illustrated adage "Get Your Kicks on Route 56." Simon has carved out a pristine retreat and, the recent NY Times write-up not withstanding, you feel like you're in on some type of secret.

“Return visit just as good as the first!”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2014

We just spent two weeks at the Hanalei Surfboard House for the second year in a row. Again, we were very comfortable and happy there. The location can't be beat. It is in excellent location of the beach and town. Simon and his natural hospitality has made his guest cottages as relaxing and complete as any 5 star resort. In fact, that's what it is! We hope to be back next year too. Thank you Simon!

Response from the owner Dale and Kelly It was a pleasure once again to accommodate you in Hanalei and welcome you back to Kauai, we hope to see you in the future, once again. Have a fabulous 2014 and return to Lake Chelan carrying a load of Kauai aloha. best regards simon

“Amazing stay at the Love Shack”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2013

We left the Love Shack just 5 days ago and still wish we were there. This was definitely the coolest vacation experience we could have dreamed of for our honeymoon. We missed having Simon there (having read so many good reviews of his service), but were pleased to meet him on the last day of our stay (he had been out of town). We still felt very well provided for, with everything we needed to cook and grill our meals, and an amazing patio to enjoy them on (in the evenings could hear the waves at Hanalei Bay). We enjoyed walking and biking and the proximity of the beach and coolest little town. Everything from the decor and furniture, books, dvds, cds to the shampoo and super cool showers (indoor and out) was everything we could have imagined for a luxury vacation. We really appreciated Simon's attention to the environment as well with the eco-friendly washer/dryer. Our favorite amenity was the use of chairs and beach gear, which we put to use almost every day. We fell in love with the Hanalei Surfboard House and the North Shore of Kauai and can't wait to come back. Thanks, Simon!

“Paradise”

This place is magnificent and pictures doesn't do it justice. So peaceful and what a gorgeous place. Super clean and everything you need.:) Love Hawaii.

“Simon has thought of everything so you don't have to.”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2013

The Surfboard House is beautiful, simply put. It's perfectly built for quiet, personal rentals. During our entire stay we did not once cross paths with other couples staying in the other two suites. Our room (Elvis) was perfectly laid out with every amenity you could think of. From the fresh roasted coffee (bought down the street in Hanalei), to the local soaps, shampoo, and conditioner, to the covered private entrance and covered rear deck with your own gas grill, to the high pressure filtered water that makes for an awesome shower, to the speaker system, the iPod hook-ups\, the beach chairs, umbrella, boogie-boards, and so on. Simon has literally thought of everything you might need, want, ask about, look for, or otherwise seek out in a hotel room, and he's provided it all for you in one convenient, comfortable, clean space. And let us not forget the location: walking distance to Hanalei town and all of the shops and restaurants found there, as well as walking distance to beautiful Hanalei bay. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing stay in Hanalei, there is no place better than the Surfboard House.

“Doorstep to Paradise”

Reviewed 13 Dec 2012

Gorgeous home and gardens footsteps away from the most desirable location on Kauai's North Shore. The location combined with the attention to detail by the host make you feel as if you own a piece of famous Hanalei Bay. You are literally on the doorstep of the best that Kauai has to offer. With a slight nod to mid-century modernism and nostalgia the decor will make anyone feel at home with adventure just outside. No stuffy or bland hotel vacation here! The host was amazingly generous and we loved spending time listening to his stories from some of the most memorable years in music history!

“Sun, sand, surf and The Hanaleli Surfboard House! What else do y”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2012

The Hanalei Surfboard House comes with everything including beach chairs, an umbrella, swim fins for body surfing, etc.you need for a stay in Hanalei, Hawaii. The owner is on site and is responsive to any needs you have. The units are now air conditioned which does provide relief for those who need a little relief from the tropical heat of Hawaii. One of the many benefits in staying at the Surfboard House is that you are a block away from direct access to the beach at The Pines which is something not afforded to all the residences on Wekke Road. The town of Hanalei is also in walking distance with a well provided grocery store so you can "eat in" if desired plus other services. This is the 3rd time we have stayed in the Surfboard House and it will not be our last!
