“Secluded and peaceful”

Reviewed 23 May 2017

Our honeymoon at The Hoblet was sheer perfection! The hosts gave us space, but were very friendly and at the ready whenever a problem arose or when we had questions about local stores and activities. The building was clearly cared for and upkeep was evident. I enjoyed feeding the goats, pigs, and equine every morning, listening to the birds singing and lounging on the porch with a cup of coffee. I really can't say enough about this place! Located 15-30min from Everything we could need, be it Niagara Falls, groceries, or fun shops off the beaten path without the swarms of tourists you find at the falls. Weather was perfect, locals were kind, and we felt free to get in the hustle and bustle of crowds, and then retreat to our cozy little cabin. Four sliding glass doors and three skylights gave us plenty of natural light, and the fire pit was the perfect spot to relax. I'm sure I'm leaving some things out, but if you stay here, just know, you won't regret it!

Response from the owner We were honoured that you chose the "hoblet" for your honeymoon, thanks so much, we hope you made wonderful memories here and in Niagara. All the best in life!

“Amazing Stay!”

Reviewed 6 Jun 2015

We had an amazing trip and unfortuantely there isn't enough room here to share the details. Petra and Mush are amazing as are their fur babies. We were so busy that that didn't have much time to relax at The Hoblet but this could be blamed, in part, to Petra's wonderful suggestions of things to do in the area. :) We are definately hoping to come back in the fall where we can relax more and enjoy the changing of the leaves. The high points were viewing a ship pass through Welland Canal, dinner at The Flying Saucer, scooters in Niagara on the Lake, warm apple crisp at the Irish Horn Pub, ice cream at Avondale Creamery and her "sweeties". Not to mention the falls and Petra's parking and dining suggestions. She has thought of everything and is the most enjoyable host. Thank you for everything Petra, looking forward to seeing you again!

“AMAZING getaway!”

Reviewed 30 Mar 2015

We loved our time and weekend together at the Hoblet - Nothing could have made it more enjoyable (except maybe a hot tub?!)...The donkeys were adorable and our host, Petra, made us feel very welcome. In fact, we almost go snowed in and not only was our car cleaned off (what a lovely surprise!), but she let us know we were welcome if it was necessary to stay another night. We'll definitely go back; hopefully making it in the late summer or fall.

“The Hoblet is a santuary away from home”

Reviewed 26 Dec 2014

We absolutely loved our stay at the hoblet. Petra and Mush are the most down to earth and lovely people. If you want to be close to Niagra but don't want the usual stay in the usual hotel, this is a wonderful place to go. It is peaceful, just far enough away from town to offer seclusion and a getaway experience that is uniquely wonderful. The animals on the property add to the country atmosphere and the warmth of the fire at night is pure enjoyment.

“A perfect place to stay!”

Reviewed 7 Aug 2014

We stayed here for a little over a week in July - what a find! Petra, Mush, and the animals all welcomed us and made us feel very much at home. The Hoblet is adorable, the setting is serene and restful, and it was a perfect place to call home. It was so convenient to all the Niagara area, easy access to major roads, but could take back roads if we didn't want to get on the highway (which was most of the time!). We would absolutely stay here again! We loved our evenings sitting on the porch or out by the firepit. It was great to have a grill (brand new - we broke it in!). A great place to "recharge".

“I was sad when it was time to go home!”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2014

We have just come back from our 2nd trip to the Hoblet and booked our 3rd visit on the phone with Petra when we messaged her to her know we'd arrived home safely.'s that good. We first attended the Hoblet in November of 2013 with our then 5 year old twins. They loved it, especially the animals. They were never bored, never complained, and when we asked them if they wanted to go back after our first visit they were quite clear that YES....they DID! We wanted to do something special for our children's birthday so we brought them back to the Hoblet. Petra and Mush generously gave them each a small gift, which was a lovely surprise and they like their new wool socks so much they wore them. In JULY. Lol. Honestly, this place is amazing. It's calming (and for the mother of now 6 year old twins, that's a hard thing to achieve), it's quiet, and it's good for your soul. The donkeys and goats and piggies are fantastic hosts as well and we love to visit with them, feed them and listen to them get excited when they hear one of their humans coming to feed them. This year we found a great playground/splash pad/skate park area close by and the kids played there happily for over an hour before we headed home. You can't go wrong staying at the Hoblet, regardless of age :D We can't wait to return for our children's 7th birthday next year.

“Quiet and relaxing cabin near the Falls”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2013

We'd recommend this rental property to anyone interested in getting away from city living. And yet it's still close enough to get to the Falls (15 mins) or Ontario (hour or so) if you want to. The proprietress, Petra, is extraordinarily knowledgeable about the area and has received awards from the Canadian Government for her hospitality and customer service. There are also farm animals on the property that are very friendly. They're close enough that you can pet them if you want but not so close to be a nuisance if you're not an animal person. The property is very accessible from both Ontario and Buffalo, so if you live in the northeast us, it's an easy drive. We'd definitely recommend the Hoblet to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. -Steve and Elyse, Pittsburgh, pa

“Nature's Haven”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2013

The Hoblet was a very welcoming surprise. The photos might capture the look of the Hoblet, but they don't offer the warm, welcoming feeling you get when you arrive. Petra and her four-legged friends make this location feel like home. The cabin is very well appointed, painted in natural colours with five sliding glass doors on two sides and three skylights, all of which fill the space with natural light. The result is very calming. In the evenings, the outdoor space twinkles with tiny white lights that make it feel magical. The covered deck includes comfy chairs with soft pillows. Poke around, every nook and cranny offers something interesting to look at and flowers spill out from every corner. I haven't even mentioned the best part! Each morning Cuddles, our favourite donkey, offered his own morning salutation, I'm sure meant to call us out to say hello. It was a very pleasant way to start the day. Petra couldn't have made us feel more at home. She offered great suggestions for local dining and attractions. We did try two restaurants she suggested (the Smokin Buddha and Keith's Restaurant) and both were great. The area offers lots of fun activities and since we were there during the wine festival, we visited several wineries. Our favourite was The Ice House Winery. We will definitely visit Petra and the Hoblet again.

“Uniquely Outstanding!! What a great little get-away!”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2013

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a very restful and beautiful setting here at the Hoblet for our 17 wedding anniversary. The rescued animals are adorable and I have never seen a donkey that wants and likes so much attention "Cuddles" is a very appropriate name! The owner Petra is a wonderful person with a true love for nature and animals and is a wealth of knowledge for the area and gave us amazing recommendations and booked us our dinner reservations on one of the vineyard estates. From the outside the cabin is rustic and sits forest side with an amazing covered patio setting, rock encircled firepit and bbq area. Inside the amenities are modern and extremely well maintained. We loved our stay! We will be back and will bring our boys next time for them to experience it! Thanks Petra

“Good Vibrations at the Hoblet”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2013

We enjoyed our recent stay at the Hoblet. Petra and Mush are good people who are warm and welcoming. The location is convenient to many of the local attractions, and the directions that Petra has thoughtfully provided, make getting around very easy. We went to Niagara on the Lake, Welland Canal, Fort Erie and Niagara Falls, during our 4 day stay, all of which were very uncomplicated to get to. It was a pleasure to return each evening to the peacefulness of the Hoblet, to cook a light meal, watch a movie, or just relax by the fire, expertly prepared in advance by Mush. One early evening, Mush made sure the bikes were ready for us to ride, (even though he had been working hard all day) and we went for a quiet, easy pedal on the country roads, with an absence of traffic. The animals are sweet and we enjoyed feeding them the carrots we purchased at the local grocery store. Petra and Mush lovingly provide this sanctuary for them and they seem to know it. The Hoblet is a peaceful, relaxing place. On our 1st morning there, we slept easily until 10:30, which was something we hadn't done in thirty years. Must have been all the good vibrations surrounding us. If you enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the county and are looking to stay out of the hubbub, then Petra and Mush's Hoblet is the place for you.
