“Pinch me - I must be dreaming.”
The Flying V Villa is as beautiful as its pictures lead you to believe. We arrived to find an elegant yet extremely comfortable home which would serve as our base of operations on what we intended to be a week of rejuvenation, discovery and adventure. Prior to arriving the owners had been extraordinarily helpful with information on how to get there, the best way to navigate the airport and rental car needs, recommendations on sight-seeing opportunities, favorite places to eat, grocery store options and more. We are so glad we followed their advice and simply just wish we had more time to check things off the list. The property management staff was incredibly helpful with advice and with securing tours and transportation for us. We had a day of adventure at Rincon de la Vieja that included horseback riding, zip-lining, white water tubing and mud and mineral baths. One afternoon, we enjoyed a sunset sailboat cruise that was arranged by the office. Perhaps our favorite day was being picked up at the villa and traveling to the Palo Verde River for a riverboat tour. Our guide was exceptional and the day also included a traditional Costa Rican meal, authentically prepared, overlooking a beautiful country vista. When we weren't experiencing an adventure of one kind or another, the Villa was there with comfortable sleeping arrangements, a patio with a magnificent view, and a fully equipped kitchen in which my girlfriends and I took turns cooking and making frozen drinks from the fresh fruit we picked up at the market. We hooked our tunes up to the fabulous sound system, while uploading our experiences, through posts and pictures, to social media with the excellent wifi located in the unit. Every evening we could, we made our way, with wine glasses in hand, to the very private infinity pool located just a few units down from the Flying V. We had a couple of excellent meals at the Picante restaurant on the property and we also enjoyed a couple of meals at Father Roosters on Playa Coco, one beach over from Playa Ocotal. Personally, I really loved interacting with the wildlife. There were birds that waited for us each morning on the patio, hoping for bread to feed to their chicks. From the patio, we also saw mapeches, coatis and howler monkeys. It was incredible!
“Fabulous 50th Girlfriend Adventure”
I was lucky enough to stay in this beautiful villa for a week with 4 of my best girlfriends to celebrate 50th birthdays last month. From the moment we walked into the villa, we all knew that this was going to be a great home base for our adventure in Costa Rica. The villa itself is beautifully decorated, with all of the creature comforts you expect. The kitchen is stocked with all of the tools needed to cook meals or make delicious tropical drinks to enjoy on the patio. The patio itself has a breathtaking view of the bay (don't miss those sunsets) and is the perfect place to observe the abundant wildlife. We were visited daily by more hummingbirds than we could count, the local jays (much friendlier than those we have in the Southern US), mapeche, and Cutter the Coati. We also saw flocks of parakeets, a troop of howler monkeys and Halloween crabs. There are two pools in the property, but we spent our pool time in the upper one, which is a very short walk from the villa. The restaurant on the property, Picante, is excellent as well. We ate two meals there and were not disappointed either time. The food was solid, the cocktails hit the mark and the service was very friendly. The office staff is very accommodating as well, so take advantage of their knowledge of the area. We were able to book all of our excursions with Cesar's help and guidance. We had some general ideas of what we wanted to do, but everything we did was pulled right out of the notebook that the owners provide, so be sure to take a look at it. The villa is about a 30 minute drive from the Liberia airport, and the little town of Playa del Coco is very lively, so be sure to poke around there. We had dinner at Papagayo, take out pizzas from the Italian joint (it's name escapes me, but it's in the owner's book) and did all of our food shopping in the local grocery stores and roadside fruit market. The locals are super friendly and very laid back. We had our own car and getting used to the local's habit of driving with gusto took a little time. Relax, keep your eyes peeled and go with the flow. You'll be fine in a day or two. Overall, it was an amazing trip and I can't wait to go back!!
I can not say enough about how amazing Neil and Verda were with helping my friends and I set up our vacation in Costa Rica. Their Villa is beautiful and has amazing views of the ocean! They gave us tons of recommendations of places to go see and eat and they were all great. Ceaser and allison the office managers are great also. They helped us book different tours and gave us directions. Driving to the resort I was a little nervous not knowing what we were going to get but it was everything we had expected and more! Neil and Verda we will be back to visit again!!!
“*Pura Vida...vacation of a lifetime.. Verda and Neil are amazing”
It was the first trip here for all of us, and it has been amazing. We planned this trip a year ago. Some things we learned while here:1). "Pork chop is actually a piece of ham.2).The best ceviche is @ Picante.3).All distances to destinations should be doubled.4) SPF is always necessary.4). Pepsi light is way better than any diet soda in the states.5)Puppies have the right of way-are well-fed and cared for.6) Massages on the beach=worth every colones!6). Take dramamine prior to the drive to arenal.7). An entire family of Costa Ricans will fit on a one-seater bicycle. Recommendations to Fellow Travelers: 1). worth repeating: best ceviche is @ Picante.2). Dany @ Picanted is awesome-he will take good care of you.3). Cesar @ the office can make it happen-massages,zip-lining reservations,etc.4).Sky trek zip-lines are amazing. 5).Linda Vista Del Norte in arenal/La Fortuna was a great place to stay-view of volcano and lake, close to zip-lines, daiquiri's served upon arrival by Henry and best Tres Leches cake ever!6). Father Roosters-great Lomito de la Casa- steak tenderloin w/ chimmichura sauce, try the coconut flan-key lime also good.7). 2 racoon friends-we named them Walter & one eyed Wally- So sweet and will take crackers from your hands.8). Come home by 6pm to watch sunset.9). "Typical food"=rice, black beans, plantains, salad &meat-Delicious;! anything but typical. Verda and Neil- your home is beautiful. When we came back at night it felt like coming home. We have had such and amazing time here and are already planning our next trip. We all woke before 7am every morning (no alarm) and were so excited to greet the day. We slept like babies and played like children on the beach and in the pool.
“Flying V Villa”
My four girlfriends and I just got back from a fabulous week at the Flying V Villa. From the moment we inquired about the property, the owners were extremely friendly and helpful in giving us tons of information about the area and ways to entertain ourselves while we were in Costa Rica. The Villa itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated with amazing views. The kitchen has everything you need to cook all your meals, but I highly recommend checking out some of the restaurants in the surrounding areas. Waking up each morning and looking out to the black sand cove, or enjoying a sunset cocktail on the veranda the views were incredible. We enjoyed using the two infinity pools and beach. The staff in the office was helpful in booking our excursions and very receptive to any questions we had during our stay. The neighbors were so friendly and welcoming and also gave us lots of tips and ideas for possible activities. Attention runners and power walkers...the area is very hilly so bring your sneakers for an incredible hill workout. Our experience at the Flying V was amazing and were so sad to leave but we can't wait to go back. You don't want to miss out on this great experience.
“Flying V Villa - home in Costa Rica”
As soon as we walked into Verda and Neil's 'Flying V' Villa in Costa Rica, we knew right away we'd absolutely love our stay. We spent the first day walking from room to room, admiring the care and taste with which the whole house is furnished and decorated. And we were thrilled at the view from the backyard lookout and upstairs balcony. It was evident that Versa and Neil truly try to ensure their guests have a pleasant stay. They also provide information on the best restaurants, activities, trips, and even the names of some of the people to meet in the community. Best of all, they described some of their own experiences, so each suggestion had a personal flair. Our family visited the villa during the rainy season, and thus we were a little apprehensive about not getting to see any sun at all. But although there were a few rainy moments, the sun was out all morning and often afternoon, the vegetation was in full lush, and the resort was almost empty-we had it nearly to ourselves. We went on a snorkeling trip, a wildlife tour, hiking in the rainforest, to a beautiful waterfall, and spent the rest of the time jumping in the waves on the beach, enjoying delicious avocados, or simply relaxing in the villa. We recommend the villa to anyone visiting Costa Rica-from couples to families to friends, it's an incredible way to spend your vacation, especially with Verda and Neil doing their best to ensure you have a great time!
