“The most amazing place in the world!”

Reviewed 13 May 2014

My partner and I stayed at Villa Salju along with two of our closest friends. As it was my partners 40th birthday (and our first proper trip abroad) we wanted something really special. After weeks of searching different villas online, we found villa salju. I was very nervous booking privately, but after contacting Susan, I felt very assured that we were in good hands. As I wanted to plan a special, secret surprise for my partner for her birthday, I enlisted the help of Susan and her staff to make the day special and they did not disappoint! From arranging a personal massage therapist for each guest, traditional balinese dancers, a feast to feed an army, firedancers and a personalised birthday cake, nothing was too much trouble and the day was seamless and perfect. I really can not thank Susan and the staff enough for their help (and the countless emails I was sending prior to our arrival trying to arrange and confirm everything!) The staff at Villa Salju are so beautiful, humble, honest and lovely and they really helped enhance our stay. Patma is just a gorgeous soul and was on hand to assist us with any enquiries or additional assistance. Our friend unfortunately broke her foot at Echo Beach during our stay and Patma was so helpful in arranging things to make our friend more comfortable and mobile around the villa. We really could not have asked for a better guests relations manager. There was no need left unattended during our stay and all done with a smile! Thank you Patma, we hope to catch you on our next visit! Dewa was our security guard and whilst we never had any reason to feel concerned for our safety, it was a comfort being in a foreign country and knowing there was a security guard outside all night. He was also very friendly. Tari was our breakfast chef and housekeeper and is such a sweet and gentle person. She cooked us an amazing breakfast every day (I am already missing my daily fresh fruit platter and bacon and eggs!) She also kept the villa spotlessly clean and even did our washing for us. We felt so spoiled and I know that not having to worry about a thing certainly enhanced our holiday experience so thank you Tari! Putu was our driver for the 8 day stay and I can not sing his praises enough. He is so kind and funny and genuine. He has great knowledge of Bali (and of all the great restaurants) and I am so glad to have met him. On the day of my partners birthday, we asked him to take us on a mystery tour and he happily obliged...we spent the day in Nusa Dua looking at the most amazing beaches and dining at fabulous restaurants! We invited Putu to dine with us as often as possible and from him we learnt so much about Bali and Balinese people. He was always very patient and accommodating and a very competent driver. Bali roads can be overwhelming for a first timer but Putu made us feel at ease. He also went to considerable lengths to be of assistance when our friend broke her foot and for that we are very grateful. Putu, I can not thank you enough. You are a wonderful person and I am so happy to have met you and learn so much from you. You made us laugh every day and we cant wait to see you next time we visit Bali! The villa itself is exactly what you see in the photos, it is breathtakingly beautiful, spacious, clean and you cant help but feel like you are holidaying in luxury. I would happily stay here again and again. I was warned that Canggu was quite a fair way out from the hustle and bustle, but did not find it to be too much of an issue at all (especially with having our own personal driver)... It only took approximately 15 or so minutes to get into seminyak and we had no trouble with the taxi finding the villa when we went out late at night. (Although we couldnt pronounce anything so we just showed him the address on our invoice! Haha) Overall I highly recommend Villa Salju. To Susan and the entire team, thank you for making the 40th birthday something to remember. We had an amazing holiday and we are eternally grateful for everything you did for us during our stay. We cant wait to come back!

“A beautiful place, with beautiful people”

Reviewed 8 May 2014

Just back from spending 7 nights at Villa Salju in Canggu (which I now know know is pronounced Chungoo...lol at our previous attempts) . The villa is a beautiful place to relax and the staff are beautiful people. Unfortunately I had a fall at Echo Beach resulting in a broken foot. This changed our holiday considerably. The staff at Villa Salju could not have been more helpful. Patma (guest relations) arranged items to assist with my mobility within the villa. Also, I just need make a phonecall and Patma would arrange a massage at the villa for me. Without this assistance, I would have been up the proverbial creek. Tari (housekeeper/cook) was onhand to cook us a delicious breakfast each morning. Tari ensured the villa was spotless and all our washing was done. There were times I chose to stay at the villa while my friends went out and explored. Tari was available if I needed her, or very inconspicuous if I wanted privacy. So appreciated. There is a security guard (Dewa?) who is present each night outside the gate. We never saw or heard anything out of the ordinary but it was comforting to know Dewa was out there. Even the nights I stayed alone, after convincing my friends to go out without me, I felt very safe and relaxed. Our driver, Putu, was so happy, helpful and funny. His great driving, flexibility with time, and knowledge of the entire area was a significant factor in us squeezing in as much as we coz in our short time there. Putu made sure, regardless of where we were, to bring the car as close as he possibly could to me, ensuring less painful transfers in and out of the car. Villa Salju is away from the hustle and bustle of the central areas. We even got to experience rice harvesting right outside our gate. The time driving to the villa varies depending on traffic , and there's lots to look at on the way. Sometimes it's nice to sit back, relax in the airconditioned van and take in the surroundings. We certainly did, and had a ball.

“Great escape with great people and great place!”

Our ladies trip seems to be remarkable with amazing people around us and a very nice ambience of villa salju...our 3nites of stay is not enough and we plan to come to bali again...our tour guide or bodyguard gede is very friendly and really good with all the shortcut road and save us a lot of time and he knew a lot of places as well...tari the housekeeper is a wonderful person as well..eventhough she's 05mths pregnant but the villa looks like new everytime we came back from sight seeing...and we really love our seafood bbq prepared by chef...it was really good especially the sauce...we even asked tari to teach us how to prepare the sauce..i will definitely tell my friends and family to stay at villa salju if they plan to come to bali in future..eventhough this my fourth time here but i still feels like my first time!

“Wonderful Villa Salju experience”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2014

Fantastic location and staff- we loved Putu and Tari. Putu recommended some fantastic day trips and was a great source of information about Bali. His driving was excellent and we always felt safe with him. Tari was our breakfast cook and housekeeper- what a lovely lady! She did a great job and it was hard to say goodbye to both of these wonderful people when we had to leave. The accommodation was perfect for what we wanted- it is old but more than adequate. Minor suggestions for a better stay- upgrade television and DVD players(some didn't work very well)and add a TV to the third room and/or living area.(We only write this because we don't usually watch TV and on holidays it's our indulgence!) It was quiet and private- loved it!We stayed one night in Villa Castilla, which was beautiful and more modern- we would like to stay longer in that one next time if the dates work out as the location is excellent if we want to shop. Patma greeted us on our first night and we met her again at the handover- she was very professional and a great choice for customer service. Overall a fantastic experience. Susan replied promptly and as often as needed to ensure everything was organised before we arrived.10/10!

“lovely stay in Bali”

Reviewed 18 Nov 2013

The villa was very pleasant, stunning location maybe a little further from the Seminyak then we realised but still not too far away. The villa was outstanding, beautifully furnished and comfortable beds. beautiful pool and a warm welcome. There are a few things that could be improved, The villa itself could do with a little more seating area downstairs but was a perfect base for those who are active explorers. The cook was lovely and provided us with beautiful pancakes but i would have liked the option to feel comfortable making my own food or doing my toast to my own liking and i felt like i was intruding, also having breakfast made is lovely but I'm not sure it gives the flexibility/privacy i would like on a holiday. The normal driver was outstanding, unfortunately for us we had someone else when we booked a whole day drive and they completely mis understood what we wanted to do. Overall the booking service and service provided by these villas is out standing and i would recommend them. Thank you Susan and the team for a lovely stay.

“Amazing stay in Bali.”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2013

Hi Susan, Well, we are back to reality, having spent the week at work. However, our Bali holiday is still very fresh in our minds. We had an amazing stay at Villa Salju for 2 weeks. We were two couples never interested in going to Bali, and now can't wait to get back. Firstly, the Villa was amazing, we loved everything about it. The location, not too far away yet very peaceful. The pool and outside living was perfect for just hanging out sipping cocktails. The beds were very comfortable and air conditioning made sleeping at night a dream. Secondly and most importantly, Rama. What an amazing guy. He wowed us with his local knowledge and stories of Bali, it's culture, religion and past. Nothing was ever a drama for Rama, he knew the best places to go, how much to pay for things and where to find good pork ribs and the best snorkelling. He would organise and doublecheck restaurant bookings, healing massages and temple visits. Paul and Bronny's little one, Knox, couldn't say Rama, so he was nicknamed RaRa. Knox was besotted with RaRa and RaRa with Knox. Rama literally turned our amazing holiday into something special. We all had a tear in our eye when we left. You are extremely lucky to have him in your employ. Please look after him. I am sure you will hear from Bronny, but I will say thank you for organising all the kids stuff. I will be sure to get in touch for our next Bali adventure. Thanks again.

“Spacious villa in beautiful Canggu”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2013

We stayed at 3 of Susan's villas for a total of 2 weeks. Our driver Putu stayed with us for the duration of our stay and was simply wonderful. He made reservations for us for dinner, suggested restaurants to visit, booked babysitters, suggested day trips and scenic drives, etc. As we were travelling with a toddler, Susan and her team provided pool fences at the 3 properties we stayed at, plus arranged car seat hire and provided a high chair. This made our stay incredibly relaxing. The housekeepers at each property were excellent. Our second stay was at Villa Salju for 7 nights. It was our favourite location of the 3 villas we stayed in. There is a surf beach within walking distance (maybe 15 minutes walk) or a short drive away. The Canggu Deli is a 5 minute drive from the villa with all the essentials you need (magazines, fruit & veg, meat, cereals, etc). It was very easy to book a babysitter and pop into Seminyak for dinner (15 min drive) or head the other way to Echo Beach. The villa itself is lovely although the layout was a little wasted on us as a family with a toddler. As the 3 bedrooms are very separate (one upstairs, one downstairs and one in a separate pavilion surrounded by a koi pond) it was not ideal for a family with small children as the bedrooms are too far apart. So we ended up popping our daughter's cot in the corner of the master ensuite bathroom. Normally this would be fine, but because the main living room did not have a comfortable couch or TV (the master has this), the only spot to watch a film or read a book at night was in bed. So we ended up spending most of our time in just one room trying not to wake the baby. A shame in such a big property! We did really love this villa for its location, lovely pool and grounds - including an enormous outdoor covered seating area that was fantastic for lounging during the day. Because of the layout I would recommend this as ideal for a family with older children or a group of friends (3 couples).

“exellent”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2013

We stayed at the Villa Salju in June this year and it was ab fabulous. The staff were fantastic and the Villa was beautiful. We really enjoyed the total ease with having our own driver Patu who was just lovely and we came to think of him as a friend by the end of our stay, having his family come to the suckling pig feast that we had on our last night which was amazing and though it said it were for six it could have fed twelve comfortably! It was so lovely to go sightseeing all day and come back to an ab spotless house and wonderfully made beds by the very lovely cleaner Tari who made us feel so welcome and looked after, very spoilt. We were traveling with our two year old daughter and that was not a problem everything was catered for, pram car seat etc and she loved the staff who were just great with her. Even the security were lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the only regret we have is that we had to leave. Fully recommended.

“Fantastic Villa, Fantastic Staff - Would highly recommend”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2013

We had the most wonderful stay at villa Salju. The villa really is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. Our driver Putu was 5* very helpful and took us to all the right places. Also our maid Tari was 5*, so helpful anything we wanted she could help us with we really could not fault the staff at all. The villa is in a very quiet location which suited us, only a short drive into the more tourist area, Putu would glady work overtime, or bluebird taxi were readily available, but to be honest the overtime rates are very reasonable so prefered to use Putu. I would also recommend the suckling pig feast to have at the villa, it truly was deliciuos. The only negative i can say about this villa although not really a negative, is there aren't any clocks anywhere none of us in our group wore wrist watches, would be quite useful if maybe there was a clock in the kitchen area especially so you can keep an eye on time when cooking. we are all ready planning our return for next year.

“Awesome villa stay, awesome experiance!”

We stayed at Villa Salju last week and had the most wonderful 10 day holiday ever. We were greeted at the airport by our driver after a very long flight and whisked away to the villa where our friends were waiting in the pool, fabulous! The staff had cooked us the most amazing meal and we felt so well looked after. The villa itself is ab beautiful and the beds are massive, so much open space that even as a two couples and a toddler there was ample space to chill out by yourself if needed. We had an ab fantastic experience and ab loved Bali and the Bali people. The experience was made so much better by the lovely staff at the villa. Putu the driver was so wonderful and took us to some amazing places and I think it safe to say that we all came to think of him as a friend, we had the pleasure of meeting his family on our last eve when we had the fantastic chef in to cook a very massive suckling pig. The pig was touted as feeding six people but was ab massive and could have easily fed double that. My daughter took a shine to the house cleaner Tari who was wonderful at making us feel so welcome and it was always so nice after a big day out to come home to a nice clean house and freshly made beds. Even the security at the villa are lovely and I think that Susans staff really made the holiday for all of us. My only regret is that we had to leave, when can we go again?
