We had an incredible stay at Tapeka. The house is really well equipped, state of the art Tv's and sound system and every room had everything you could want for a holiday. The setting is stunning!! We stayed in Winter and would love to come again in Winter or Summer. We had several encounters with dolphins in the beach outside the house. One day a very large pod came and spent about 45 minutes just off the beach whilst we were out in the dinghy - we had them all around us, under the boat, beside the boat and leaping everywhere - it was absolutely incredible. We caught loads of snapper which was great fun for the children. The bird life is superb - kingfishers on the lawn every day, tuis, bellbirds, weka calling at night and ducks to name a few. Russell is a stones throw away and a very nice walk. We had a family group aged from 15 to 92 years old and we all thought it was incredible. Don't just think about this as a holiday destination - book it - you'll love it.
Response from the owner Thank you so much for the review. We are pleased all age groups enjoyed the stay and that the friendly Bay of Islands Dolphins put on an up close and personal display. We hope you can return for another stay during a NZ summer
“Lovely beachfront escape”
Fantastic location, fully equipped with everything you could need & sunsets to die for!
“Outstanding NZ getaway”
Property is a beautiful home, immaculately clean, well setup with all facilities - linen, crockery, cooking items etc. Housekeeper (Maggie) is very welcoming, pleasant and informative. Highlight was seeing dolphins swim along the beachline in the morning.
Fabulous stay, perfect location and excellent accomodation. Was proud to have my international extended family spend their first week in NZ at such a wonderful holiday location. The only negative was the BBQ which wasn't functioning at it's best and needed a bit of a clean.
“The Kiwi dream, beyound your wildest dreams”
Every thing we needed was there, the home is set up to enjoy, everything was explained, the location is to die for, the sun sets, activities and history of place just awesome.
“superb location and thoughtfully appointed”
We had a multi family holiday in Russell with two holiday houses but with Tapeka del Mar as the base. The other house was unpleasant to stay in - emphasising the quality of Tapeka del Mar - which was immaculately clean, had good bed linen (real doonas), nicely decorated, with good stereo system and a very well appointed kitchen (seriously sized cooking pots). Row boat, trampoline and kayaks were enjoyed. The owner and the local agent provided detailed briefing and were genuinely concerned to ensure a perfect stay. The only negative was the bathrooms - two isn't really enough for the number of beds offered - this would be fine if the house isn't at msximum capacity. However, all these other comments - both good and bad - are minor compared to the location - the timber deck to eat on, the lawn to play on and the uninterrupted beach view and access made it very special. (The walk to Russell is a nice length too.) We had bad (unseasonal) weather and were forced to limit our planned sailing trips etc but would go again and stay at Tapeka del Mar without question.
Response from the owner Thank you for the detailed review. We agree it would be nice to have more than two bathrooms with a group of 12 or 13 but most houses cater for only 6-8 guests and we feel the ability and economy of 2-3 families being able to stay together may outweigh this. The outdoor shower assists during better summer weather. Thank you for looking after the house - you are welcome back anytime. We hope the unseasonable weather during your stay will not deter you from returning
“Excellent holiday facility with all the "bells & whistles"”
Will certainly recommend to friends and family!!!
“Fantastic Holiday experience”
Wonderful accomodation, clean bright and airy, loads of room for all. modern appliances and most of all an incredible view and location, short drive to Russel Township for all your needs and dining requirements. Feel relaxed and revitalised
“Excellent accommodation in a devine beachfront location”
Our stay at Tapeka Del Mar was simply sublime! The ocean views and beachfront location in such a sheltered and private spot provided the ultimate in serenity. Summer weather in June also helped! The house itself provides maximum comfort for a family or group of guests, and is well appointed. An excellent lunch at The Duke of Marlborough Hotel in Russell is only a 5 minute drive away. We will be back for sure!!
Response from the owner Thank you for staying with us in the "winterless north". We are pleased you enjoyed our peice of paradise and look forward to having you stay again in the future
“Relaxing by the beach”
the worst thing i could say is that the tv was only available in black and white, but then it was only the kids that noticed. Other than that the website doesn't do this beautiful location (not 20m from the beach across a lawn) justice. We are already trying to persuade the family to go back again...
