We've been to Datai several times and it never disappoints. The beauty, the weather and the gracious host and hostess are just superb! North and Middle Caicos are beautiful and my wife and I always relish our time there! Be sure to have John-Louis cook for you! It's wonderful!

“Beautiful Home -- a Real Stunner!!!”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2014

I will mirror all the other reviews and say that this home was absolutely beautiful and much lovelier than the photos describe. The house is impeccably clean and spacious and lovingly appointed with warmth and charm. Jean Louis is a sweetheart and is very eager to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. Some practical tips- there is not a great variety of restaurants and what there is - is very expensive ($80 lunch at the Barracuda Grill for two fish sandwiches and two local bears a piece - ouch!). We brought a ton of frozen meat and luncheon food in a portable cooler and were really glad we did - saved us a fortune. The kitchen is very well appointed with pots, pans, plates, etc but there is nothing by way of spices, oil, sugar, etc so - if you plan to cook at the house, bring everything you will need food-wise. You can purchase stuff at the local grocers but variety is very limited and, again, very costly. Three Mary Kay has some of the best snorkeling I have ever seen. I went around 3pm when there was little wind and I had to have seen at least 30 different varieties of fish in my first five minutes. Unfortunately, I encountered a five-foot sand shark which spooked the "you-know-what" out of me but Jean Louis promised me that these sharks are totally harmless! The only reason I gave Datai 4 stars instead of 5 is because the island itself was a little disappointing. The beaches are stunningly beautiful but there is little else to do here. The rest of North Caicos is pretty uninspiring. People have said that this is a place to come to "unplug" and, yup, that's true ... very true. If you really want nothing more than to lie on the beach with several good books, take advantage of a rather impressive movie collection in the evenings (thanks to Jean Louis) and enjoy sun and solitude, than this is your dream house. The house is absolutely lovely and you will not be disappointed.

“Best house on the island”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2014

Datai exceeded all of our expectations. It provided our family with the ultimate setting for the relaxing vacation we were looking for. Not only was the house beautifully designed to let in all of the light of North Caicos, but the location is one to be reckoned with. Other people were far and few between, so if you're looking for calm and quiet, this house is perfect. The serene beach in the backyard of the home was wonderful for swimming, lounging, and miles of walking and exploring. Jean Louis was always readily available when we needed his assistance and an overall great contact to have on the island. This would be the first place we would call should we decide to make a trip back to North Caicos.

“Perfect in every way”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2014

Our family of four stayed at Datai Villa on North Caicos in December 2013. We loved it. The house is beautifully designed to take advantage of its beach front location, and is comfortable and well-equipped. Jean-Louis is a charming and gracious host, ensuring everything is running smoothly. We opted to have him purchase groceries for us and cook dinner on our first night, which we appreciated at the end of a long day of travel. Next time, we might buy additional groceries in Provo before we head to North Caicos. The beach is stunning - miles of soft, powdery sand with almost no one in sight. We tried several of the island restaurants and enjoyed very good meals at My Dee's and the Silver Palm. Datai is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for the antithesis of the big resort experience.

“Total Relaxation!!”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2013

We were treated wonderfully by the owners. He cooked dinner for us two nights. And the desserts were "to die for"!! He contacted the local fisherman to bring us some fresh lobster. The house was cozy and very comfortable. The location was ideal for peace and quiet and the views were awesome! It was perfect!! We loved everything about it!! Definitely plan to return!!

“Short trip to paradise”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2013

We had a wonderful stay at Datai. The landlords Jean-Louis and Martine were very friendly and we felt at home shortly after we arrived. Whitby is really worth a visit, it's very quite and we had the chance to fully relax from the daily life. The photos on Jean-Louis and Martine's Website are beautiful but not as beautiful as the reality. The house, the garden, the palms and the sand, it was like having a vision of paradise. We definitley recommend this place and would love to come back one day.

Response from the owner Thanks Marco and Tony for such a review! WOOOOW great to hear that you enjoyed island and villa... See you again... soon we hope!

“Amazing beach-side vacation with famiy!”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2013

We arrived at Datai Villa to Jean Louis ready and waiting to give us the grand tour (with home-made pizza, too!). As soon as we stepped foot onto the property we were breathless! The inviting open entryway opens up to the most beautiful view of beach and turqouis blue waters. Datai Villa just seems to fit with the natural beauty of the islands- like it was meant to be there all along! Standing on the deck you see your private outside eating area, covered terrace at the top of the beach, a beautiful sand back yard, and of course the wood walkway down the middle leading right to the beach. All bedrooms were so clean and welcoming. The main house was gorgeous and had everything we needed to cook and do laungry as we saw fit. 6 of us stayed at Datai comfortably and without complaint! We enjoyed days where we did nothing but lay out in the sun and enjoy the absolutely gorgeous scenery that Jean Louis provided for us, and also spent days exploring the island and making friends every where we went. Jean Louis and the people of North Caicos are oh so welcoming and helpful. We feel that we were able to make friend in him and several other people that we met there. Datai provided us with an absolutely amazing family vacation, and we recommend it to anyone looking to stay on North Caicos or TCI in general! It is the most private and beautiful villa on Whitby, and we cannot wait to go back!!

“Great Experience where your feel like you are on your own privat”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2013

Just got back from one week at Jean-Louis's house in North Caicos. It was a great trip and the house is exactly like the pictures. We rarely saw anyone else on the beach and we liked that especially when we realized how many people were on the main island resorts. Things of Note: The house has up to 3 Kayaks which was great. We used them almost every day. we never had to put much effort in paddling. The bugs do exist and they have to be managed be each person differently. The day it rained they were out in force and we got bit up pretty bad. After that we used bug spray religiously on our ankles and eventually used citronella candles that we had brought and it really helped out. Plan your grocery list ahead of team. Certain grocery items are limited on the island. Jl will collect groceries for you for a service fee and we had him do that. We didn't plan a list for the whole week so some items we couldn't get on the island when we ran out. For example: Gallon Milk, Beef or Sliced Chicken (we did have a baked chicken on the island). That being said we did go grocery shopping on the island and were easily able to create meals with what was available. Just important to remember that everything is shipped onto the island so the selection is limited when you get there. The liquour store however is pretty well stocked. I felt like I was in a small Liquor store in the us and everything was there for surprisingly reasonable prices. Rent a car for a few days and not the whole trip. If you rent a car for just a few days you can go to the grocery store and drive around. I recommend a trip to Middle Caicos and Mudjin Harbor. We did a day trip down to the caves where we saw bats and a lot of cool caverns and then went to the harbor to hike, swim and eat at the restaurant. The bay was beautiful and protected enough that there are spots that you can just float around in. The drive there is also an adventure so I highly recommend it.

“Private slice of Paradise”

Our week-long stay at Datai was an eye-opening and truly fantastic experience. While we love to travel, we have never been the beach vacation type -- until now. We can honestly say that we have never had a more relaxing vacation than the one we enjoyed at Datai. I hesitate to sing it's praises too much for fear that the "best kept secret in the Caribbean" will get out and we won't be able to get into Datai in the future. But, it is impossible to not write a glowing review of both the house and its gracious owners Jean-Louis and Martine. The house - it is the perfect size; is comfortable; is beautifully decorated (we very much enjoyed the original artwork by Jean-Louis); has everything you need; and is in the perfect location. The grounds are stunning. When you walk up to the house and enter through the Caribbean blue gate and get your first glimpse of that view -- you will be hooked. The cabana/tiki hut by the water was our favorite spot. The hosts - Jean-Louis was an absolute delight and was very helpful in so many ways. The pre-stocking of some essential supplies that we requested was fabulous. And the meals he prepared for us were gourmet. We are still dreaming about his Quiche Lorraine. The location - it doesn't get any better than this folks. If you want peace and quiet, this is the spot. During our first day at Datai we could physically feel the stress ebb away. It is beautiful and serene during the day and breathtaking at night with the stars. We miss falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to the spectacular view from the bedroom. After our many travels, Datai quickly shot to the top of our list of favorite places. We look forward to returning as soon as possible!!

“The best vacation ever!”

Reviewed 3 Mar 2013

This was the perfect vacation. We had been to the island the year before and spotted Datai. It is a wonderful Villa that is well maintained, beautifully landscaped, with a lovely decor and the peace and quiet that we prefer! Jean-Louis was the perfect host and from what we hear a wonderful chef! He had arranged a taxi pick up for us and met us at the villa to show us the place and to ensure we had everything we needed. He had done some shopping for us and what he couldn't get for us locally, we picked up before coming over on the ferry. We loved having the bikes available and did not find it necessary to rent a car this trip. The kitchen has everything you need if you prefer to cook yourself, which we love to do...but the Silver Palms is just a quick walk down the beach and has wonderful breakfast, lunch or dinners. We loved it so much that we have already booked our return trip next year. Thanks Jean-Louis for the great vacation!
