“Fantastic!”

Reviewed 4 May 2015

So we were on the first direct easy jet flight to Essaouira flying from London Luton, which in itself was quite an experience - we were welcomed at Essaouira airport by fire engines squirting a welcome water arch over the plane, local music and gifts...as well as the British Ambassador! Emma was was kind enough to meet us at the airport and we were surprised at just how much effort she took to show us around and help us organise fun things to do whilst we were there. It made such a difference to our stay, there's no way we would have found half the places to go and eat without her expert advice. The house itself was right in the heart of the medina but down a little back street so quiet too. It's a great haven from which to explore the city and beyond...already planning a return trip and would definitely stay here or at Emma's other house depending on how many people we can persuade to come with us. Thank you so much.

“So perfect”

Emma was the most amazing host and the house was just perfect. When we arrived Emma had arranged for a cook to come to the house which was such a treat for or weary bodies after a long day of travel. The following day Emma came to meet us and spent several hours giving us a full your, booking us dinner reservations, telling us where the besk souks are etc. the decor and overall vibe of the place made us feel like we had our very own home away from home. It was a special treat!!

“Beautiful and authentic experience in Essaouira”

Dar Emma was an incredible apartment in the heart of Essaouira medina. Emma was so helpful and introduced us to so many wonderful shops and restaurants in the city. The apartment was beautifully decorated and so comfortable to stay in for the week. So close to everything and we really got to experience the true beauty and culture of Morocco here. We absolutely recommend staying here to anyone interested in food, art, design, beach culture, etc.

Mail letters before we went ok.There was little unsafe to send money to a complete stranger , but it went well. Would have loved a receipt for the money to come back and be happy some sort of signed contract that I rented the house . I rented it about two months before we went down . Everything worked very well with a taxi that was waiting at the airport. However, we had happily escaped the tourist trap on the way an argan oil cooperative where the driver stopped . The house was very centrally located in the medina. Emma met at the front door and showed us the house. Then went on a walking tour of staden. We got good information. And the information in the file was very useful . The interior of the house was worn. China broke into the edges. There were no back cushions on the seat , etc. During the ten days we were in the house we had to use the same sheets and the towels all the time. Same with the kitchen towels The beds and pillows were comfortable . It was cold mornings and evenings in the kitchen. The wood ran out and it was not new and we did not know if it was us who would fix firewood. It would have been good with a water scraper in the bathroom now , we bought one. Essaouira is a fantastic city with a vibrant street life. A stunning harbor to purchase fish directly from fiskebåtarna.En lovely vegetable and fruit market , etc. I will definitely go back to Essaouira but then to another accommodation. Emma's best friend with son who was riding in the same car as us to Marrakech . She did not pay here share of the taxi it was boring .

Response from the owner Am so sorry you found so many things wrong with Dar Emma, all these issues could have been resolved if you had called me from the house phone where i leave credit so you can contact me. I never enter the houses while clients are there unless requested so cannot know about firewood etc unless told, maybe there was a language barrier as i did mention if you need anything at all please to call me. I can assure you i sent you a receipt once your payment had been received, will send again now. My girlfriend Lucy shared a taxi with you and paid the driver 300 dh, am sorry about this but it seemed a waste sending two taxi's to Marrakech at the same time, very unenviromentally friendly, Lucy works in travel and is very discreet and good with people, i didn't invisage a problem. Will check the china and replace accordingly. Thanks. Emma.

“A great place to relax and stock up on some sunshine!”

Dar Emma is a beautiful little three-story patio house in the middle of Essaouira's medina. Emma, who owns the place, is a very good host, she organized the transfer for us and took the time to show us around in town. Amina, who lives close, came in every day to clean the house - an excellent service. She even cooked dinner for us one night: we had beef with prunes, a typical moroccon dish - delicious! We enjoyed strolling around the lively town, having coffee at the main plaza as much as observing the fishermen at the harbour or walking along the beach. On Emma's advice we went to cooking classes, which was a great experience!

“Just perfect”

We stayed at Dar Emma for 3 nights and we loved it. The house is not only beautiful but also very comfortable and practical. Located in the heart of the Medina, you have everything in your doorstep but still once you lock the door you can't hear anything from the outside. Last and big plus, Emma is a great host and had arrange everything we asked her for. She even tells you all the tricks of the city so from day one you feel like you've been there for a month. Definitively recommend it !

“The most perfect place to stay in Essaouira!!”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2013

I stayed at this beautifully decorated Dar with 2 other friends for 6 nights - we had originally planned to stay for 4 but fell in love with the place so much we decided to cancel our plans and stay as long as possible! Emma was the perfect host, she was ready and willing to take us on a tour around the area upon arrival and gave perfect recommendations for places to eat and things to do. We highly recommend the cooking course nearby! If you also want to experience the most delicious Moroccan meal, you can request amina (the housekeeper) to cook for you. I miss Dar Emma terribly and have already recommended it to a friend. If you are looking for the best experience of Essaouira, do not hestiate to book your accomodation here. Thanks Emma, for the most unforgettable experience!!

“Authentic, stylish and comfy”

Just returned from an amazing stay in Essaouira. Dar Emma was the perfect accommodation for us as it's right in the heart of the busy medina, perfect to pop back to throughout the day and relax on the sunny roof terrace. We loved the décor and local finds that adorn the place - we have left feeling inspired! Our stay was made all the more special for meeting Emma and having a personal tour of the Medina. We would never have spotted the recommended restaurants otherwise. Can't fault the house and Emma as a host.

“Total Gem”

I am just about to set off to this house for the third time. Everything about the place is just lovely and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Close to the market, nice and quiet, stylish and comfortable it cannot be beaten. Emma, the owner, is a delight and very thoughtful of her guest's needs. Total heaven and haven. Angela, London
