“Comfort and Convienience”

Reviewed 18 Dec 2013

We were met by Kathryn right on schedule. The apartment had a large living room / dining room and a huge bedroom as well. The kitchen had everything we could need but never cooked anything more than coffee. The apartment was comfortable and well located not far from the Jordan and close to the city center. All of Pieds properties are nice

“Perfect Location and amenities”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2013

Katherine was very helpful in assisting with the booking of the apartment and she was there to greet us when we arrived from the airport. There were fresh tulips in the living area and the bedroom - a very nice welcome indeed. We enjoyed being so close to everything and it felt like home when we came back from a full day of sightseeing. We stayed for 10 days and it was great to have the convenience of the washing machine and dryer. We would definitely stay at this apartment again when we travel to amsteredam.

“In the centre of the action”

Reviewed 26 May 2013

When visiting cities with 'history' we like to get as close to the centre of the 'old town' as possible. Our choice of the Pied a Terre apartment overlooking The Herengracht Canal in amsterdam was perfect. If possible we like to walk around as much of 'old' cities as possible and the apartment was perfect for this - central to much of the old section of amsterdam allowing us to not use transport, except for the train from the airport. The apartment was close to the sneakily silent trams if you need to use them and close enough to all manner of shops. You can even walk to the Red Light District if your curiosity gets the better of you. We had a look at the Red Light District in daylight and it was a fascinating experience and seemed very safe - as did all areas of the city we visited. The only less than safe aspect of the city was the zillion bikes, also sneakily silent, that appeared from nowhere and obviously knew their way around much better than we did. The apartment was very faithful to the description on the website - well located, very well equipped, good heating, WiFi worked perfectly, and a beautiful view of the Herengracht Canal. It was great to watch the passing canal traffic on the canal. Those who have experienced canal houses before will remember the steep stairs which should more properly be called ladders - a function of the old tax levied on the width of the dwelling thus forcing the canal houses to eb usually narrow. The apartment was on the first floor (second to americans I think!) and the stairs were wide and normally sloped - a great advantage when the stairs were climbed several times a day. The welcome was very efficient and orientation to the apartment excellent. We have no hesitation in highly recommending this apartment.

“Faultless. We will be back!”

Reviewed 19 Jan 2013

Reading the reviews before we booked, and before our trip, we worried that it would be hard to live up to such expectations. And we are now writing, without hesitation, our own 5 star review! This property and the way it is managed deserve every plaudit, and we will not be staying at hotels in amsterdam again! The service is just excellent - from booking to check-in and departure. All our questions were answered quickly and efficiently. Kathryn is a delightful manager and could not have tried harder to meet our every need. Thank you. The apartment is warm, spotlessly clean and very cosy. Everything you could possibly need is there. The view from the windows is superb and the location just brilliant. We thought we knew amsterdam well but had not recognised what a great area the antiques Quarter is. So near all the areas of amsterdam you might want to visit (Flower Market and Jordan are our favourites and within easy reach) but with its own authentic and smart feel. Great boutiques, delis, bars and restaurants. We cannot recommend this apartment highly enough - for its location, accommodation and the service of Pied a Terre.

“Frequent visitor”

I have stayed at Kathryn's apartments several times. We have always enjoyed the atmosphere and convenience, everything you could need is nearby. All the comforts of home are waiting for you and I find I pack less! I will be back soon.

“Amazing location, and hospitality! Couldn't have asked for more!”

We found the rental to be clean and exactly what we expected (and more) upon arrival. Kathryn and her assistant were incredibly helpful with everything, and ensured everything went smoothly from the airport, to getting the keys and making sure everything was in order in the apartment. The rental is gorgeous, and extremely well kept, attention to detail is impeccable. It's a beautiful and bright space, and is in a perfect location to walk to everything! The neighborhood directly surrounding it has fabulous shops and restaurants, and is incredibly welcoming, we felt right at home. I plan to stay here in the future, and would recommend it to anyone! The beautiful fresh flowers left by Kathryn were just an added touch that topped off the already perfect experience. Spacious and inviting, and all of the appliances were easy to use and everything was extremely clean! Loved it!!!

“a picturesque view and spacous living”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2012

Our plane was delayed by several hours and yet when we finally arrived there was Katherine waiting for us. The apartment was very well presented- even down to the vase full of sunflowers. She showed us around the apartment- how things worked, where the washing wachine was and most importantly the book with all the infomation in it. In that book she had a very long and detailed list of places to eat the prices and what it was like- so we worked our way through it! Great idea as they were all within walking distance.

“Fabulous rental and location!”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2012

We stayed at Herengracht 164 for 5 nights in June 2012. This is, hands down, one of the best rental experiences we have had. The flat was marvelous and the owner was accessible with very high standards. The owner, Kathryn, met us at the flat after a delayed plane flight. We communicated by cell phone after our flight landed to alert her to our anticipated time arrival at the flat. Upon arrival, Kathryn showed us all that we needed to know to work everything, including the laundry room in the basement. There is a binder with all the information she shared, as well lots of other useful tourist info, in the apartment. She has numerous tourist books available, as well. The flat was spotless with fresh flowers in the living room. The flat is a very large living/dining room, a large (for Europe) kitchen with all needed accessories, a bathroom with a very nice shower and separate tub, and a very large bedroom. The living room and bedroom have very large and bright windows that look out onto the canal. The furniture throughout the flat is high quality and comfortable. The bed was quite comfortable with nice linens. The pictures are quite accurate, if not a bit modest. The flat is even better in person. We bought food at the local market (5 minute walk) for some of our meals. The location was perfect - quiet, but easily walkable to many restaurants, cafes, and sites (8 minute walk to anne Frank House). There is a church a few blocks away that rings its bells at 5:00am daily, but we fell back to sleep after the bells were done. Kathryn has high standards for her apartments, which shows. I would happily rent Herengracht or any of her apartments for a month, as there is so much to do in amsterdam. The rental was all that we hoped for and I would look no farther than Kathryn and Pied a Terre Properties for your amsterdam stay.

“elegant apartment on historic street with canal views”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2012

We loved our time at 164 Herengracht. It is a spacious, well equipped apartment, with beautiful views. The street is historic with many elegant buildings. We walked everywhere, although trams are nearby. You are really in the center of amsterdam, with all it offers. Boutique stores are nearby, as well as a market. You are not far from the major sites. The kitchen is lovely and we enjoyed some meals, at home, watching the canal boats go by. The owner is extremely nice, and very accommodating. You do need to be able to climb a few stairs, but the view, and the location of the apartment made it worth while.

“Doesn't get better”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2011

Herengracht 164. If you are after a perfectly located apartment that will put all of amsterdam's unique delights at your doorstep, then Herengracht 164 is for you. Housed in a typically elegant canal house, this gracious apartment has full-length windows looking directly on to the Herengracht canal. We stayed for a month and never tired of watching the continual 'boat action' glide past our windows. The apartment itself is sunny, spacious and comfortably furnished and equipped. The fact that you could walk out the door and be immediately amidst small shops and eateries, and within walking distance of main galleries and museums, was a major contributor to why we loved our stay so much. Kathryn, the owner of Pied a Terre Properties, managed the whole process professionally from beginning to end. At all times, I felt extremely confident about renting one of her apartments from the other side of the world. What can often be a fraught process was thoughtfully and efficiently attended to. Amsterdam with its bike culture and winding canals is a truly beautiful city. And Herengracht 164 was more than a perfect choice that delivered all we wanted and more. In short, we loved it!
