- Very Good
I loved the position of this cabin and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Very helpful couple and great place, thoroughly recommend it
We stayed in guesthouse one, which was perfect for my family of three. We all agreed that there wasn't anything we would change about our stay. The house and grounds were very clean and beautiful. I loved sitting on the lovely deck in the morning and listening to the birds wake up in the forest. It was nice to have the washing machine right by the house, even the detergent was supplied. It was also nice to have cooking oils and spices available, I would not have bought them for a one week stay, but it was great to be able to spice up our meals. Rob and Uli are very friendly and are a wealth of knowledge about things to do in the area. They are able to book tours, and can recommend everything from the best day for visiting the reef based on tides and weather, to the best ice cream in the area. The view from the pool area is breathtaking. We loved staying at Sunrise Retreat, and I have already recommended it to a coworker who will be visiting the Port Douglas area next year.
“A great and quite place to stay”
We were in the guest house 1. There we have a balcony and we could watch hole the time at birds or other animals. We were lonely and enjoyed the rainforest without stress or noise. The owners Uli and Rob were very kindly and helped us whenever we need some. It was very relaxing.
“Mid- winter escape to a tranquil tropical retreat.”
My husband and I spent a week at Sunrise Retreat after our son and his girlfriend had enthused about their stay there. The setting in the rainforest is perfect - calm and tranquil- yet only five minutes away from busy Port Douglas by car. We stayed in unit 2 with easy access all on the one level. On our non-restaurant nights we made full use of the kitchen and BBQ buying local scallops and mud crabs. Uli and Rob were exceptionally helpful with their recommendations. We spent a wonderful half day with local bird expert, Del Richards, even managing to see the rarely sighted Victoria's rifle bird. Rob's reef boat choice was spot-on for our needs. Uli managed to book us into one of the most popular restaurants after we had had no luck. All big pluses maximising our stay.
“Tropical getaway and elopement”
At the end of a cold southern winter, the prospect of heading to FNQ for some sunshine and warmth was very appealing, and after sifting through the range of accommodation options available, we settled on the Sunrise Retreat - being only 5 minutes from the heart of Port Douglas, yet situated in a private valley well deserving of the term "retreat". We were so glad we made that booking! We stayed in Cottage 1 and you can believe all of the comments praising the beautiful design and thoughtful supply of everything you need for a relaxing tropical get away. Rob and Uli have built something to be proud of. What made our stay extra special was that we were celebrating our birthdays and our elopement, planning for a low fuss wedding on the verandah of the cottage amongst the treetops and sounds of birds and wildlife. Uli couldn't have been more supportive of the idea, even acting as a witness (and supplying flowers, champagne for the wedding toast, as well as making sure we got a great table at a Port Douglas restaurant for our celebratory lunch!). We'll be back...maybe a 10 renewal of our vows?! Lindsey and Cathy
“A lovely spot to recharge the batteries”
Just far enough out of Port Douglas,to enjoy peace and quiet over looking the cane fields with the ocean in the distance, but still close enough to enjoy all that Port Douglas has to offer. Strongly recommended.
“A haven in the forest”
We loved our stay at Sunrise Retreat. It is perfect if you want a restful holiday away from the crowds - yet it is just a 5 minute drive away from 4 mile beach and Port Douglas. The cabin is surrounded by tropical plants and trees and it feels like you are right in the rainforest, with a view through trees to the beach beyond! Our hosts were very friendly with lots of helpful tips for exploring the local area. Something I must tell you, if you are a mosquito-magnet like me, is that we didn't see any at the cabin! July is low season for them and Uli uses natural products to keep them at bay - this was a real bonus!!
“Just what the doctor ordered.”
We had a fantastic 2 night stay at Sunrise Retreat. Uli and Rob made us feel completely at home. The location in the rainforest is beautiful and the night noises from the wildlife amazing. Beautifully appointed, everything we could need. We will definitely come back.
“Felt at home”
What a wonderful place to stay. So much more than pictures can describe. A guest house that actually exceeds your expectations. We felt right at home and very welcome for the duration of our stay. Everything was clean and comfortable and private We have 2 large dogs who were also most welcome to stay outside and even had a flat grassed area. Would definitely return
“Freedom, privacy and priceless local knowledge”
Our fantastic experience at Sunrise Retreat is attributed to owners Rob and Uli. Adventurers themselves, Rob and Uli gave us heaps of insight into the best local delights and tours. Don't book anything before you go! These guys are awesome and will help you decide on what to do, when and with who (companies) :) Make sure you take Rob's advice and head up the coast with his locally informed map to Cape Tribulation...heaps of cool spots to stop! We're well travelled and as far as hosts and properties go, Sunrise Retreat was on top. We stayed for 6 nights in Unit 1...our very own treehouse! Whilst we were close enough to the main house to grab some advice when needed and a dip in the pool, the treehouse is absolutely private. Because the property is few minutes out of town having your own transport to get to and from town is beneficial. In saying that, we loved staying a bit out of town...the property is secluded with great views right across the coast. It's well worth the 6 minute drive! Even with 6 days under our belt we still had more we wanted to do. We'll definitely be back and don't hesitate in recommending Sunrise Retreat to you all!
