Villa Gabriella is a wellkept, beautiful house in the middle of the village of Pognana Lario. We also had nice contacts with the local people who are very friendly. It is located upon the hillside, so you have to climb up by the steps or take your car. The advantage is of course the stunning view from the balcony, almost a dream ! If you want to have a swim in the lake you can go down to the lido at Lake Como Beach Resort where Eric and Robin will welcome you with a big smile :-) It is very enjoyable down there.
“Beautiful part of our world”
We stayed at Villa Gabriella May, 2013 and so enjoyed the Villa and the area of Lake Como. Robin and Eric were very thoughtful, helpful hosts. The Villa was all that we expected and the location was perfect. We were 14 miles from Belligio on one side and 14 miles the other to the City of Como. Right outsite our Villa was a beautiful church that woke us each morning with the chimes. And the View was beautiful looking out over Lake Como. The kitchen was nicely supplied, bedroom was comfortable, bathroom had been nicely updated. Villa was located in a very quiet area with a few nice resturants closed by. Our favorite resturant was Ristorante La Meridiana. Chef alberto was fabulous. And this is within walking distance of Villa Gabriella. A car is required for this rental, and driving is faily easy. There are also some great little markets close by and taking the ferries around the Lake was great. We also took a short day trip into Switzerland. Another beautiful area.
“Excellent home base for visiting the beautiful Lake Como area”
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Gabriella. From beginning to end, our host was most gracious and provided outstanding service. Our view was absolutely breathtaking. After our days of visiting the numerous sites in the area, we would sit on our balcony, in awe of our good fortune at being there. Our accommodations were very comfortable, clean and well maintained. There were a few excellent restaurants within walking distance, as well as a market. The area was very quiet and relaxing; we even enjoyed hearing the church bells ring on the hour and half-hour! Would recommend Villa Gabriella to anyone wishing to visit the Lake Como area.
“Villa Gabriella is fantastic”
My wife Brooke and I booked our trip to Italy, and specificaly Villa Gabriella based on the sheer beauty of scenery in the pictures, etc. What we didn't know is how great Eric and Robin are. After a few complications with our GPS and after a long day of driving to the villa, we got a little of course. After calling Eric, he jumped in his car at 9pm on a Saturday night and drove over to help us. He got us into the villa, showed us around, etc.. When he realized how hungry we looked, he called down to a great restuarant and got us in later then they would generally be serving. Erik and Robin provided ideas for day trips, helped with reservations, emailed to check on us throughout the week and were just awesome. The villa is even more stunning then the pictures on the website, and the area is amazing. My wife and I highly reccomend the villa and Lake Como in general. It made for a great hub for the many day trips we took: Switzerland, Milan, Verona, Venice, Como, etc.. Thanks Eric and Robin for everything! Doug & Brooke Hills PS.. we'll be back!
“Million Dollar View!”
Excellent stay at this villa for one week for family of 4 in July. Great value and location. Villa was very comfortable and cozy. Owner Eric was most accommodating with information, inquiries, and reservations. An excellent holiday!!
“Beautiful apartment with a few small problems”
Beautiful apartment with stunning views. Nicely situated between Como and Bellagio. The owner, Eric, couldn't be more pleasant and helpful. There are, however, a few small drawbacks to take into consideration. First, you have to drive everywhere and the roads are tricky - you can't really walk anywhere far from the apartment. Second, you are in a residential neighbourhood that is noisy from 8.30 - 10.30pm with kids playing football and teenagers on their motorbikes. Third, the top bedroom in the house is unbearably hot in the summer. Despite these things we had a great week and really enjoyed our stay.
Response from the manager Enjoy the Italian good life full of love, joy and laughter to the fullest. Sense of family and children being a huge part of it. Italians love children and their children are very well mannered and behaved. Children are welcomed with open arms and welcomed wherever they go. Playing a bit of soccer in the cool evenings until the church bees toll at 10 pm. After which their mothers come to retrieve them to a warm welcoming home. This is the lovely ambiance Italy has to offer. All of the lake villages are identical, with happy children enjoying their gelato after a warm day. The villa has fans on both levels as well as skylights that can be used and opened. There was an unusual heat wave in June and when this happens on needs to close the shutters during the day to keep the heat out, then open all the windows up at night. We do not have many bugs and it is very refreshing in the evenings. Opening up everything at night cools the house down and makes it very comfortable to sleep as well as having the fans. Thank you for coming.
“Amazing views and wonderful hosts.”
The owners of this villa could not have been more helpful. It was a bit hard to find, so we called them on their mobile, and they helped us right away. When we left, they ran off our boarding passes on their printer! The villa was just as expected, with everything in working order.
“Fantastic stay at Villa Gabriella”
I can't enough good things about our stay at Villa Gabriella, situated on beautiful Lago di Como (Lake Como). The apartment is beautiful and very functional. Two couples stayed in the villa and we were very comfortable. The view from the balcony is terrific. Unfortunately, pictures will never do it justice. The owners, Eric and Robin, were very helpful and stayed in frequent contact with us before and during our stay.
Villa Gabriella is a great place to stay and from which to explore all the places around Lake Como. It is in Pognana Lario on the high side of the main road about 12kms from Como city. This means great views across the lake, but also means it is a very authentic experience. You are amongst homes typical of the region, friendly locals and great food. The 3 level apartment is well furnished and comfortable. It offers the magic lake view from the first two levels. The second level being the main bedroom, where lying down and looking at the extraordinary mountains on the other side is both captivating and relaxing. Eric and Robyn have done an outstanding job in creating a welcoming and homey place. And their hospitality is exceptional. The day we arrived we had one of those travel experiences that included no sleep for over 20 hours. Fatigued and 'not with it', we rang Eric for some help. He rushed over and did everything ... welcomed us, moved us in and then, seeing our state, went and did some shopping for us. He left shortly after promising to come back the next day and explain all that one can do at Lake Como. The next day that is exactly what he did. You just cannot say enough about such service and hospitality. Lake Como is a wonderful place to visit, Villa Gabriella is a lovely home and you hosts will ensure you feel welcome and get the most out of your holiday.
“A definite return!”
Coming from the us I looked for weeks to find the right place. We wanted a location that was centrally located on the lake, we were so pleased and happy we found Villa Gabriella. We believe could not have chosen a better place for the price and personal service we received. Initially, reading the reviews was a little hard to believe given this was a self-catering villa, but from the first email, to meeting them, then ending with our bitter sweet goodbyes, we can understand why their reviews are so wonderful. They both work as hard as or harder than high-end hotels when it comes to personal attention. They replied to any questions by email and phone, met us upon arrival, and answered any questions we had about the villa or area. The villa itself is quite lovely and a welcomed sight after a long flight and the slightly crazy Italian drivers. The living area is conveniently opposite the balcony with a view of the lake (and for my wife, Mr. Clooney's villa). The bathroom and the main bedroom are on the second level. The villa was very clean and had everything we needed. There is a very nice local store in the village where you can get all the basics, excellent meats and lasagna. The store does deliver but if you are walking be prepared for the steps back up to the villa. The village of Pognana itself is small and quaint and just what we wanted. We arrived in the fall (less crowded) and the ferry was limited but the weather was so nice we rented a boat. We found this even more thrilling driving our own speed boat and being able to stop when and where we wanted for photos. The overall Lake Como area is a sight to see you can't get to it all in a week. Our favorites were: Bellagio, the Bernina express to St. Moritz, Cernobbio, Villa Carlotta and Villa Balbianello, restaurants: Bella Vista, Aurora, Salice Blu. To Eric & Robin; thank you for being such lovely hosts. You have help to make our vacation to Lake Como a special one we will always remember.
