“A totally relaxing rural Tuscan retreat.”
Podere Patrignone is a beautifully rustic, rambling farmhouse, secluded in its own woods. There are a number of properties for rent within the complex, from compact and bijou, to spacious and open, all with their own particular charm. It makes a wonderful base for touring, being within easy reach of Florence, many Tuscan hilltowns and villages, and stunning Sienna. Simon and Verity are charming, helpful and very friendly hosts, as are their family, and of course, their dogs!! The weekly "home cooked" meal is a great opportunity to sample Verity`s cooking, and meet your fellow guests. The position of the complex within the landscape, is superb, and there are wonderful views from the terrace and pool area, over surrounding olive groves and vineyards. There are a number of excellent restaurants within very easy reach, where local food and wine can be enjoyed. I would also suggest visiting local wine producers, of which there are many. My wife and I have stayed at Patrignone for two weeks, in both 2011 and 2012, and we would not hesitate to recommend this lovely destination. Do not be expecting a five star hotel, that is not what Patrignone is about!! It is, as Simon says, a work in progress. However, I fail to see how a stay here, could ever disappoint. Truly Tuscan in every sense.
“Ideal Tuscany accomodation”
We spent five glorious days at Patrignone. We loved the location, perfect for visiting many of the small towns, and also Florence and Siena. Our 2 bedroom villa was beautiful, and everything we could have wanted. We especially enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of Simon and Verity, and their three sons. It made the holiday extra special. We will definitely be back.
“"Under the Tuscan Sun"”
Thanks for sharing your wonderful gem in the heart of Tuscany. Simon and Verity were the perfect hosts...they even shared their pets with us. Charlie and Lola are two wonderful dogs, who took turns going for walks with us : ) Miao, the cat, made us feel right at home with her daily visits. Patrignone is conveniently located to take day trips to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Lucca. Simon was very knowledgeable of areas that we visited and offered helpful tips on driving and parking! We stayed in Il Caminetto which was very roomy and a great location to view the spectacular sunsets! We are still talking about about our stay and how much we enjoyed Podere Patrignone. We have very fond memories and plan to return...next time, we promise not to feed Charlie and Lola too many biscuits : )
I first learned of Podere Patrignone after reading social media posts about Simon and his work on the property. After reviewing the site and all the pictures. I was certainly intrigued, and with all the other travel I've done through Italy, I knew I had to stay here. I arranged a trip that also included other family. Between our dinner w/ the Zimblers, local dinners, our day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, & Volterra, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect trip. We absolutely loved having quiet nights on the patio enjoying local wines, meats, and cheeses, as well as well as evening fires. It was absolutely perfect & I look forward to another stay where I can bring the bike to enjoy the local road riding. Mille grazie Simon! Jeff
“What beauty! What hospitality!”
My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Podere Patrignone. The views from our many windows featured the fall colours on the hillsides. They were spectacular! Our hosts were very kind and helpful. The suite was truly perfect for our needs. Our stay was perfect in every way.
“Full of interest.”
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Simon and family. Great accommodation and excellent dinner with family and guests (extra fee). Simon very helpful-even repaired our malfunctioning satnav. Would recommend to everyone. Love to see a more obvious sign at entrance.
My wife and I relaxed for a week at Simon and Verity Zimbler's beautiful agriturismo near Castellina in Chianti. Our room was large and beautifully furnished with antiques. Every evening we watched the sunset (and later the moon and stars) on the spacious terrace with other guests, with Carla, the restorer of Patrignone (and Simon's mother), and with Pam, Patrignone's efficient jill-of-all-trades. The conversations, no doubt lubricated by the delicious local vino, were a highlight. Patrignone is conveniently located, less than an hour to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, and all of the towns in the Chianti Classico region. Simon is knowledgable about the region, which was subject to heavy fighting in the last year of World War II. We followed his suggestion to visit the american military cemetery south of Florence, and we paid our respects to those who sacrificed their lives to free Europe. I found the name of my father's cousin on the memorial wall. We enjoyed our visit, and we will go back.
“everything for your stay in Tuscany is covered.”
4Fun aussies stayed for a week at this wonderful place that is managed by an equally wonderful host & hostess (Simon and Verity). Advice by Simon on all things Tuscany was accurate and highly valued. Podere Patrignone ticks all the boxes: location, location, location, clean and well apponted apartment, grounds and surrounds outstanding, value for money. Always attend the dinner organised by Simon & Verity, it is outstanding and a lot of fun. We all left with a smile and highly recommended to all styles of travellers.
“Paradise in the Chianti”
The stone farm house of Patrignone was our home base in Tuscany. We stayed in the Terrazo, which was more than ample for our family of four, including two teenage boys. Our bed was very comfortable and we liked the wooden beams on the ceiling and the irregular characteristics that one would expect in an old building. We appreciated being greeted with a loaf of home made bread, some prosciutto, salami and cheese in the fridge, as well as ground Illy coffee. We made our own coffee in the morning and looked forward to returning to this lush setting every night, rushing to get our refreshing dip in the pool. We had a self catered apartment and one night even made dinner there, which was great. It was nice to be both on our own, yet be able to ask for dinner suggestions, have someone willing and able to make dinner reservations on our behalf. Verity made dinner the first night, which was delicious and they also directed us to a cooking class at the nearby Toscana Mia, which is a memorably experience. Simon and Verity (as well as their lovable dogs) are wonderful hosts, but they have a life and an olive oil business to run as well, so never hover. We liked this because it made us feel more independent. Our only problem was with nasty mosquitoes at night. Definitely bring bug spray. A ceiling fan would be a great addition. One thing that you can not see in the website or in a picture is the smell. They've planted lots of rosemary, so when the breeze blows that's what you smell! Cooking dinner? Just pluck a few twigs. We'd go back in a heartbeat.
“We Loved Podere Patrignone”
We love both the hustle and bustle of a big city, and the quiet of the countryside. After our stay in Rome, which we thouroughly loved, we were looking forward to relaxing in Tuscany. We were not disappointed at all. Simon and his family are absolutely lovely. They are there if needed, but leave you to enjoy their beautiful agriturismo unfettered. It's charm is rustic, and for those who freak out about bugs or other small creatures, this is not for you. But for us it was great. Some of our best meals while traveling in Europe were enjoyed at Patrignone on the terrace overlooking the olive trees during a beautiful sunset .
