We were fortunate in renting the Ostavier Apartment for our first visit to Amsterdam. It was ideally located for the activities we wanted to accomplish especially to visit many of the museums. Public transportation was located very close to the apartment and was convenient for us to travel to all of the various venues. In addition many restaurants and food markets were located close to the apartment. The apartment was adequately furnished and the kitchen had all necessary items to prepare meals. Elizabeth and Florian (owners) were extremely helpful in giving us advice regarding the locations of all the venues we wished to visit as well as how to travel around Amsterdam. The only down side was that the apartment was located on the fifth floor. We were aware of this when we made our reservations; however, we did not know that older buildings in Amsterdam have very steep and winding staircases. Since we are both over 75 years old, it was a bit demanding. If the staircases were of ‘normal’ design, we would not have had reservations since we are both physically fit and was able to navigate the daily climb to the apartment. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we recommend others to stay at the Ostavier Apartment when planning a short stay in Amsterdam.
Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review of the apartment, location, and owners. It was a pleasure to have you as guests. We're very sorry about the number of stairs. On the positive side, that's why the apartment and terrace are so light. It's good to hear that you enjoyed your stay.
“Perfect Pad for Axploring while feeling like a local.”
We had a two night stay here and we didn't want to leave. It has everything you want to be really comfortable and at home. Very clean and unfussy but effortlessly cool. The four mini flights of stairs are worth it as you get to enjoy the balcony and peace and quiet. Hosts are fabulous, just there if you need them as they live below but they leave you alone to enjoy your stay. The area itself makes you feel like you get a great feel of what it is like to live in this wonderful city. Walking through the parks and streets into the centre was one of the highlights of the visit - bustling street markets, cafe culture; local people enjoying their weekend. Hope to return one day. A real find.
“A Wonderful weekend in the winter”
Me and my partner have just returned from a long weekend at this apartment in Amsterdam. It was a modern, clean and very well run place to stay. The owners are always on hand to provide information and services. The only negative thing i could think of was the ammount of stairs you had to climb to get to the apartment (but this is what you have to expect in these type of traditional houses) so would not advise elderly or very unfit people to stay here.It is not too far from the city center (10mins) and other main attractions, the tram runs from just around the corner on Van Woustraat to the center about every 10 mins, either no'4 or 25(we mainly used 4). If arriving by plane then you need to get a train ticket from the airport to Amsterdam Central then from the train station the trams (4 and 25) run from outside the station, ask for Ceintuurbaan. You can buy tickets (strippenkaart) from a newsagents just outside the main entrance of the train station. If you want to find out more about tickets etc then i found the website amsterdamtips.com very useful but i also took out a guide book from the libray which was very handy to have while we were there. All in all it was a fantastic break,we will definately go back to Amsterdam and will definately use Ostavier again....thankyou for making us feel welcome. Lynsey and Simon x
My boyfriend and I visited Amsterdam for the first time and we enjoyedit very much. This appartment was lovely, clean and tidy. It was easy to get to places from where it is situated and the couple who own it were lovely. thank you for a lovely stay
“A fantastic neighborhood and a nice place to stay”
A quaint apartment in a cosmopolitan neighborhood within walking distance of shops, the museums and parks. Public transportation from the Central Station was very quick and direct (no change required). The studio is very quiet and lots of daylight in the living area. We appreciaited having the equiped kitchen and the DVD player especially in the evenings. The owners made us feel welcome. We hope to return again soon.
