“Great cozy home away from home.”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2015

We stayed in the Orleans bungalo apartment on July 15-18. It felt like we were at home. The apartment had lots of character and charm. Loved sitting outside on the terrace watching the free entertainment across the street , was it called the ship wrecked bar? I especially loved beiing able to go to the back alley and washing clothes. (I hope it belonged to the cottages property, if not then oops!) We utilized the kitchen and the gas grill out back on the patio.Everything was great and this cottage had plenty of space for two families. We met my cousins from Texas in Flordia for a vaca. We drove from Oklahoma. The flat screens worked great. I have no complaints about this place. I just want to say to all you all snotty people leaving negative comments.... Quit complaining or find somewhere else to stay. What exactly do you think you are getting when you hear the word "cottages" it's not going to have a bell hop and a maid that cleans up your messes daily. Maybe some of you never lived in 100 year old homes and only used to a lavish lifestyle. Obviously you spent your time in doors. not us we were at the beach the majority of the day until almost 9pm every night. I enjoyed my stay there. It was a good 3 day stay for us despite the rainy weather. Yet we still had fun.

Response from the owner Dear Guests: We are glad youfelt like the New Orleans Beach Apartment was a great cozy home away from home and felt like it had a lot of character and charm. We think the view from the balcony is great, other than a view of the Gulf of Mexico. Glad you felt everything was great, there was plenty of space for two families, and that you enjoyed the 3 big flat TVs. Appreciate you telling like it is the complainers. Come back anytime Capt.AL and Karen

This place was really more than I expected. Nice roomy rooms, very clean, and lots of windows. Capt. Al and Karen are the friendliest and most helpful people I think you could find. I was afraid with the place being so old that it might smell musty and moldy. This was not the case at all. I was traveling with my rather large German shepherd and we both had a nice and relaxing stay. I really can't wait to go back. I have always stayed at hotels before, but chose this place for this trip as I wanted to take my dog. She is a large dog and there are no breed/weight stipulations like a lot of places that accept pets. Here are some observations; the cottages are old, circa 1929. So if you do not like old places do not stay here. If you are expecting daily personal service, hand holding, new and modern decor or opulent luxury, not stay here. If you are looking for a comfortable, private and eclectic place that is clean, has a very comfortable bed, roomy fully equipped kitchen, friendliest staff ever and somewhat frustrating window treatments :), then this is your place. Front yard, court yard in the back, not a lot of stupid 'don't do this, don't do that rules.' It was such a relaxing and satisfying stay, I was really not ready to leave :(. It is close enough to the main Clearwater Beach activity to be convenient, but far enough away for some quiet, and very convenient and easy access to the beach. I stayed in the "Grand-view" cottage, which was one bedroom with a king size bed, kitchen, living room and bathroom. The rooms were roomy and comfortable (bathroom a bit on the small side, to be expected of a 1929 home, but clean and quite sufficient.) I'll be back.

Response from the owner Dear Guest: Thank you for you nice review and kind words about Karen and Capt.Al.We are glad you got relax, have a great vacation with your large dog, enjoy the front yard and Tiki hut,and Kingsize bed at the Grand View Cottage. We look forward to your stay when you return again. Capt. Al and Karen

“Fun cottages,great location,=awesome vacation”

We arrived a day early and Capn Al made sure our cottage was ready, even early on short notice.Cool, fun, lot of character.Tommy Bahamas cottage is old-florida style to the max.Cool ac,great water pressure, steps to incredible beach.5 of us fit easily ,comfortably, and had a great vacation.Capn Al is around for anything you need or will text you back if you need anything.Great hot tub in shared backyard, great stereo, great service. We broke a cieling fan blade and Capn Al just said "Not a problem,Ill take care of it".High rises would have charged us a couple hundred for sure.Steps to Gulf of Mexico, our daughter loved looking for the lizards in landscaping outside. Also stayed in Gulfside cottage for a few days.It is a more modern style as far as how it is decorated but Tommy has every modern convienence you need. Both completly updated appliances and fun for whole family to stay in.Much more memorable than a sterile high rise.We will be back to see Capn Al and Karen in office. They took care of all our needs and recomended several great spots to eat along with things to do.Hot tub great as well.Bluchers

Response from the owner Dear Guests: We are glad your family got to enjoy an Awesome Vacation at the Tommy Bahama Island House. We are glad you felt it was Cool, fun, and had lots of Character. You felt it was Old Florida and Cool to the max with great water pressure. I am glad you commented on all the Cool things about this really cool classic beach cottage, as some guests just look for the imperfections in a house that is 100 years old. Your family got to enjoy a great real Florida Beach vacation and we look forward to your return visit next summer. And, yes, no charge for the broken ceiling fan, why create bad energy when what we are all about is helping guests have the best vacation ever. Capt. Al and Karen

“Very laid back experience”

Reviewed 10 May 2014

The weather was perfect, the location of the cottage was 97% perfect in that if you could see the water, it would have been 100% perfect. But the Tiki hut experience made up for it. The staff was quick to react if there was a want/need. Oh and very friendly. Very close to the water and can accommodate your every need for the beach. Captain al is a great guide to shelling. We saw dolphins just off the beach from us, found a live hermit crab, and much more. Would recommend if you are not looking for a perfect place to stay. we were hardly ever in the cottage. Oh and close (walking) distance from the busy life!

Response from the owner Dear Guests: We are glad you had an almost perfect time at the Grandview Cottage. Guests have no idea how much fun it is just hanging out at the Tiki Hut as you have the best seat in the house, watching all the tourist walk by and take pictures with the Pirates at the Shipwreck across the street. We appreciate your kind words about Capt. Al and the staff. Next time ask for the Tommy Bahama Cottage which does have a Gulf of Mexico water view. Capt. Al and Karen

Our cottage, The Grandview, was cozy, comfortable, clean and minutes from Clearwater Beach. The Tiki table in front was fun to sit around and have a salute to a really nice stay.

Response from the owner Dear Lady Marlene: We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the Grandview Cottage, and enjoyed our fun Tiki Hut in the front yard. Thanks for staying with and hope we see soon. Capt. Al and Karen

“Great family vacation”

Check in was a breeze, felt very welcomed. Karen was very helpful and friendly. Made us feel at home and always had quick solution to anything that we needed. Thank you! The place was so close to the beach, had out door area for eating, park across the street. Easy walk to the pier...made it with our 6 month old daughter and 5 year old son four times. The place had very comfortable beds and the air was cold. I liked least that we had to leave and liked best that everything worked out so well. Literally any issue we had or need was resolved. Made for a better than expected vacation. Thank you al & Karen you are great hosts!

Response from the owner Dear Guests: Thank you for your kind words about Karen and Capt. Al . We really appreciate it when our Guests feel that we are great hosts. We know how difficult a vacation with young children is, so Karen goes overboard to make everything easy. Families just love that the beach is just steps away and Pier 60 so close. We are so happy it made for a better than expected vacation. Capt. Al and Karen

Our family stayed in the New Orleans unit. What a wonderful vacation we had. Al and Karen were so kind and helpful. The unit was clean and has such charm. The location was perfect, just steps from the beach! My husband is already talking about going back next year!

Response from the owner Dear Guests: Karen and I are so glad you had an Awesome Vacation at the New Orleans Beach Apartment. Thank you for your review and hope to see you next year. Capt. Al and Karen

“The most relaxing beach vacation possible!”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2014

The location to the beach, restaurants, and shops was perfect! The manager was very accommodating. It was nice meeting other people from the other cottages on the property. The Dolphin Cottage met all of our needs. Most of all, our whole family enjoyed the vacation!

Response from the owner Dear Mom for 24 Hours: I am glad you had the most relaxing beach vacation possible, and thank you for letting other guests know. Hope to see you next year. Capt. Al and Karen

“Perfect Vacation”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2014

The second we stepped through the door Karen was there waiting to show us around. She told us about all the hot spots around Clearwater and made sure we had everything we needed. The cottage was beautiful and very clean. It had all the amenities you could ask for. You can see the beach from the cottage, and walked to it in less than a minute. Captain al provided bicycles which we loved and rode around town every day. We made use of the gas grill every day, it was clean when we got there as were all the utensils. The hot tub was amazing! Captain al was very cordial and made us feel at home. They even let us stay in one of the other cottages instead of a hotel room on a night that we didn't have booked. Overall it was the best vacation I've ever had, my girlfriend and I absolutely loved every minute of it. I highly recommend it.

Response from the owner Dear Guests: We are so glad you all had the best vacation ever at the Grandview Cottage at Clearwater Cottages. Karen takes great pride in making sure the cottages are extremely clean and the utensils, as you commented. Thank you for you compliments about Karen, the head housekeeper. We hope you can spend a little more time next year. Also thanks for nice comments about Capt. Al as well. Capt. Al and Karen

“Cabins with "Character"”

Reviewed 3 Mar 2014

I was looking for a laid back vacation for me and my family and I found it! If you are looking for valet parking, poolside bars and highrise Condos...these cottages are not for you. If you are looking for a safe place with a full kitchen within yards of the best beach in america these cottages are for you! We could park within feet of our front door. The Hot Tub out back was deluxe. The walk to the beach was 1/3 the length of a football field. Everything we needed (except Wholefoods) was within easy walking distance. Caladesi Island (not actually an island anymore) can be walked too by the hearty.(3-9 miles of beach hiking). Captain al is a great host and seems to enjoy his job to the hilt. I watched him treat each and every guest like long lost family. These cottages create memories. We will come back. As the father of young curious kids..I would suggest that Captain al and crew "spring clean" the common area out back. Old coolers, broken beach umbrellas, pest and weed killers/sprayers laying around. While it's homey...I'd like to see more safe. One Saturday some hefty bags and that back area would be a dream for all! Dig? We'll remember this vacation forever. Florida makes Vermont Winters bearable. Thanks Captain al/Rodney and Crew.

Response from the owner Dear Bo: Thank you for your kind words about Capt.Al, and yes I do enjoy my job as I am so fortunate to enjoy so many cool people like yourself. You hit the nail on the head. Full kitchen, yards to the best beach in America, park right in front, great delux hot tub, and best of all no valet parking or poolside bars. I really appreciate your letting us know to lock up the pest control and with young children that is good advise. It has been so many years since I had young children. I spray nightly around the buildings so you never seen any roaches or mosquitos, that way I don't have to spray inside the buildings. We are very considerate of young children with allergies and pets. I posted your Eat More Kale stickers all over the Tiki hut, so we will always remember you. Hope to see you next year. Capt. Al and Karen
