“This apartment has it all -- like a home away from home!”

Reviewed 8 Mar 2015

My husband and I stayed at the Canal apartment during our recent trip to Paris. We arrived by RER from Charles de Gaulle and Jason was at the apartment to welcome us. He had already brought milk, fresh fruit, madeleines, coffee and a bottle of wine – very considerate touches for weary travellers! Throughout our stay, he was available to answer any questions. The apartment itself is well thought out (and we loved the decor!). It was impeccably clean and very comfortable. After a long day of wandering around Paris, it was wonderful to have the space to relax, as well as the option of cooking or eating out (Piccoli Cugini across the street was a great find our first night). The kitchen was well equipped and stocked with pantry items from teas to salt and pepper and olive oil. There were many other thoughtful touches, such as the guides on Paris and some recommendations in the neighbourhood, and even umbrellas. It was also so helpful to have the excellent Wi-Fi connection and washing machine. We even appreciated the eco-friendly products used in the apartment – something that matters to us. We were impressed by how amazingly-located the apartment is. Nearby are great bakeries (Liberté is down the street, but we were fond of Du Pain et Des Idées -- the pain des amis and escargot aux fruits rouges were our favourites), a plethora of shops and really good restaurants. Just a few doors down is a Carrefour City, a Monop’ is close by, as are several Franprix. As for transportation by métro, the apartment couldn’t be better situated. The nº 5 Jacques Bonsergent stop is the closest, however, a short walk to the Gare de l’Est will get you to the nº 4 line, which carries on to the Left Bank without the need for connection, and, at the Place de la République, there are a few other lines. That said, we found that there was so much that could be reached on foot. Overall, the neighbourhood was really lovely to stay in and we now wish that we had spent more time exploring it. Our only complaint: we had to leave! We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and would recommend it to anyone staying in Paris. Thank you so much, Jason.

Response from the owner Ah, such a lovely review. Thanks for taking the time to write in depth about your stay. Above all, we're really pleased we helped make your well-deserved holiday in Paris a success. Come back and see us whenever you want! Thanks again, Jason.

First off - Thank you Jason! The perfect host - from our initial inquiry, our welcome through to our departure. Unassuming, kind and thoughtful. Fresh fruit, fresh flowers, wine, tea, coffee - and much more. Lovely apartment oozing character - just look at the photos! Comfy beds, great kitchen, delightful lounge, FAST WI-FI, incredible home cinema set up - with built in iPod dock, the list is endless... Why stay in a characterless hotel? We nearly did. So glad we discovered this place. Transport links AMAZING. Eurostar terminal 15 mins flat walk. Nearest Metro 5 mins. Superb mix of shops, restaurants and local parks within minutes. We travelled with a 6 and an 8 year old - had a great time. So many happy memories to cherish. YOUR SEARCH SHOULD "STOP HERE!!" We shall be back.

Response from the owner Wowzers! So many capital letters and exclamation marks! We're always super pleased when people have a good stay in Paris partly because of the time we take to make the apartment comfortable for them. Your enthusiasm is above and beyond - thanks for being so appreciative. I mean, THANKS!!!!!!!

“Clean, comfortablre. Great neighborhood.”

The Canal Apartment was a great place to settle in for our stay in Paris. The apartment is well appointed with everything you'd need and our host Jason was great. Just a few hundred meters from the closest metro line, and very close to many amenities.

Response from the owner Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Lots of kind words. We really do try to make you as comfortable as possible, and it's nice to know it's appreciated! Thanks again, Jason

“The best choice we could have made!”

Reviewed 14 May 2013

This apartment is everything the owner promises, and more! Very comfortable, clean and convenient--it was like living in Paris, not simply visiting. A much better choice than a hotel room. Walking along the canal was lovely and relaxing; a small supermarket, bakeries, restaurants and train/metro stations were literally minutes away. Jason was extremely accommodating and cheerful, and provided nearly everything we would need before we had even arrived-including a new espresso pot after I had mentioned that I prefer espresso to French Press. No hotel that I've ever stayed in has gone that far to ensure my comfort. All we had to do was pick up the groceries we needed from just down the street. I felt somehow safer knowing that my "host" was right next door, yet during our 17 day stay, we only needed to ask for two things-a computer print out of a form we needed, and for Jason to call a taxi for us when we were leaving, both of which we received with a smile. This apartment really was a home away from home. I would recommend staying there to anyone, and my husband and I would definitely stay there again. I hope future guests enjoy the espresso as much as we did!

Response from the owner Thanks so much for the review. We do try to make our guests as comfortable as possible, and we know what it's like being abroad and not having access to a printer for certain tickets, so we're happy to print stuff out. Basically, we're willing to do anything we can do to make your stay simpler - that way you can concentrate on having a large amount of fun! Thanks again for all the kind words. :-) Jason

“Stylish, cute place in a groovy area”

Reviewed 26 Feb 2013

Service was great, everything simple and well-explained, excellent booking and info given, no problems there. Apartment was spotless, and so tasteful it made us want to go shopping for homewares. One excellent thing was the amount of info that was in the apartment to help us get around and enjoy the area. The location is fantastic and we would stay in the exact same place if we were to go to Paris again.

Response from the owner Thanks for the review! Glad the info we provide came in handy - there are so many cool places near us, it would be a shame to miss some of them. Hope to see you again! Regards, Jason www.canal-apartment-paris

“Very sweet apartment!”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2012

My teenage daughter and I loved our weeklong stay at The Canal apartment early in September. It's situated in a very authentic neighbourhood, the very pretty Canal St Martin is literally just around the corner, and Du Pain et Idees, the very best bakery(really - it's incredible!!!) in all of Paris is a street away. The apartment itself is cosy and decorated beatifully. We liked it alot and certainly felt 'at home' every time we returned from our adventures around the city. To me, The Canal apartment is very much part of our Parisian experience, and the thought and effort that the owners have gone to to make it so welcoming is very much appreciated. We will fondly remember out time there. Everything is very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked. The books are interesting. The wallpaper is gorgeous. The view to the street below (which I enjoyed several times from the large open windows, glass of wine in hand) is a microcosm of Parisian life, and something I loved - people walking dogs, riding bikes, sitting outside at the restuarant talking and laughing. It was wonderful! My recommendation - stay! It's a great apartment owned by lovely people. Kind regards, Simone

Response from the owner Thanks Simone! We're really pleased we helped make your stay in Paris a success. The area is pretty lovely (it's where we live too), and full of great new bars and restaurants. I'm glad you'll remember your stay fondly, and hope to see you back in Paris some day! Kind regards, Jason

“a fantastic little apartment in the best area!”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2012

Thanks Jason for our recent stay. Everything was exactly as per your website and we loved our 5 night stay. Your apartment is perfectly clean, well furnished and worked well with our 2 kids. a big thanks for providing the travel cot and linen. Your neighbourhood was so much fun to explore and the more we visited the better known parts of Paris to stay, the more we were pleased that we were beside Canal St Martin. Here we had all the great trimmings of Paris, but did not have to share them with thousands of other tourists...we will be back, big thanks to you, Phil

Response from the owner You're welcome! Glad you had a good time with us, and enjoyed Paris to the max! Bee seeing you again then :-) Best regards, Jason

The booking procedure was simple and straighforward and there are no hidden charges or fees.Jason and alain were extremely friendly and helpful in every way. “Laid-back apartment in Paris”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2012

We arrived in Paris on a monday afternoon. We took the train to Gare du Nord and walked from there to the apartment (10-15 min), which was no hassle, even with two large suitcases. We got an e-mail from Jason some weeks before arriving so we had all the info we needed to get to the apartment and felt very welcome. The location is perfect, right by the canal and with nice small shops and restaurants nearby. We also walked from the apartement up to Montmartre twice which was nice:) there are several stations for the Paris city bikes nearby and we used them all week. The apartment really feels like home and is fully equipped with everything you need. It was also a great plus that this apartment has wifi. All in all we were very pleased with our stay!

Response from the owner Glad you had a good time with us, and found the apartment well-equipped. We do everything we can to make guests feel as comfortable and at home as possible - after all, that's why people choose an apartment instead of a hotel! Thanks again for the kind comments :-) Jason

“A nice refuge near the canal after exploring Paris”

Reviewed 9 May 2012

My husband and I stayed here in late april/early May 2012, and it was nice to have a spacious place that felt more like a home than a hotel room. We enjoyed all of the cute, quirky decorations in the apartment. We made abundant use of the free wi-fi, which worked very well. Jason was friendly and efficient during check-in and check-out, and there was fruit and a bottle of wine when we arrived. The bed was comfy, there wasn't much outside noise, and it was great to be near the canal to relax a bit during the May 1 holiday when everything else was closed. As another reviewer noted, there is a grocery store very close to the apartment that's useful for picking up things for a meal, snack or drinks, etc. We recommend having dinner at La Paella, just a bit further up the street, and visiting Du Pain et des Idées for pastries in the morning, especially for the chocolate pistachio pastries. We also want to thank Jason for kindly directing us to a pharmacy that was open on May 1, when my husband needed some medicine.

Response from the owner You're welcome! Thanks for the lovely review. Glad you enjoyed your time with us and enjoyed our great local restaurants and cake shops! And of course, we're alway happy to help guests when they need it. Kind regards, Jason
