“A lovely well maintained holiday home in Crail”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2013

Spent a very relaxing time exploring Fife and loved returning to Sandcastle Cottage. It has everything you could need for a home from home. A beautiful garden adds to the experience. Highly recommended.

“Lovely cottage, great location”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2013

Sandcastle Cottage is a beautiful place to stay! The cottage itself is equipped with everything you would want in your own home - have a look and you'll probably find what you're looking for. The garden and cottage itself is beautifully kept. The best thing about Sandcastle Cottage is the proximity to the beach and rocks and if you get up early enough you might be lucky enough to see a great sunrise! There's great local walking and exploring and it's very close to other seaside / harbours at Elie, Pittemweem, Anstruther and St andrews. Edinburgh is also only a short drive away. Crail itself is lovely! What's a treat to visit your very own butcher, baker and green grocer. The only thing I had trouble with was finding pegs! It's so well equipped I just assumed that there would be some pegs somewhere and I would find them! It's a great place.

Response from the owner Lovely to hear that you've enjoyed your stay at Sandcastle Cottage so much. Off to find out where the pegs have gone... there were some last time I looked!

“A fantastic family holiday in a beautifully relaxed environment”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2013

Sandcastle Cottage is one of the very best holiday cottages we have rented in Scotland in the past 20 years. It's beautifully presented, clean and tidy with comfortable beds, Wifi and very usable living space. Our 2 girls, aged 6 and 3, had a fantastic time running around the large garden, as well as playing on the swings and slides not 5 minutes walk from the door. The sandy beach, next to the playground, has a multitude of rock pools and opportunities galore to catch crabs and small fish. It's a short 5 minutes walk into the town and 10 minutes walk to the famously picturesque Crail Harbour. Overall Sandcastle Cottage is a fantastic location to base yourself for a fabulous family holiday. Well recommended by us all.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for this very generous review. We're pleased to know that you found it a relaxing place to spend time.

“a home from home”

What a lovely home and Crail and the surrounding areas are great! A friendly village that is easy to get around on foot and the cottage location is ideal for access to the playpark and beach areas as well as the village amenities. The cottage/house had everything you could have asked for. Would have no problem recommending and we hope to be back! The only improvement for us would be a blackout blind/curtain in the twin bed room so that the children would sleep a bit longer in the mornings! (they were awake at 6 most days :-) ) Really had a good day out at Craigtoun Park (just outside St andrew's) - well worth a visit especially with children. The new penguins and meerkats at St andrews aquarium are also a good day out.

Response from the owner Great to know you enjoyed your holiday so much, and thanks for the pictures too.

“Everything was wonderful.”

The cottage was immaculate. We own a rental beach cottage at the Outer Banks of North Carolina, USa and I'm afraid Sandcastle put us to shame! The area, that we knew somewhat from a visit some 20 years ago, is lovely. We drove up to Braemar for a day and went through a small short-lived blizzard in the Cairngorms that was a nice contrast. No real problems with the cottage except perhaps that we found the internet connection patchy and slow but we got the hang of it. Mobile phoning is best done from up near the skylight. Balancing the heat upstairs and downstairs was a little tricky at first. Overall, absolutely excellent.

Response from the owner Hope maybe one day we'll make it out to North Carolina for an inspection! Sure your rental is lovely... Fantastic that you managed to catch snow in May in Scotland. Telecommunications in parts of Scotland can be challenging, but the standing by the skylight trick for mobile phone reception is just about the best we can do there for now. Glad you figured out the wi-fi for internet though as it's such an essential when travelling. In fact, we won't now book a cottage without it as our whole family regard it as a must have. You'll be welcome back in Crail any time.

“Lovely warm cottage close to the sea”

lovely well maintained cottage in a great location the owner has thought of everything there you would need for a stress free stay

Response from the owner Thanks! That's what we hope you'll find there. Hope to have you stay in Crail again soon.

“Enjoyable, relaxing and great entertaining space”

A lovely well presented and located cottage. Private garden was great for entertaining our friends and family who came to visit.

Response from the owner Great to hear you enjoyed your stay so much and look forward to welcoming you back to Crail soon. Susan Sandcastle Holidays

“Another place in Scotland to fall in love with.”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2012

The cottage is lovely, a home from home. It is situated in a great place to explore the east coast, with it's lovely beaches and harbour towns. We loved exploring the area, and the fish n chips at anstruther Fish Bar were the best! Enjoyed The Cocoa Tree at Pittenweem. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had problems starting our holiday on the Saturday, Susan let us start our holiday on the Sunday which we were grateful for.

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind review. We're so glad that a holiday in Crail in November lived up to your expectations for a good base from which to explore the Fife Coastal Path. We'd be very happy to welcome you back again when you're looking for a peaceful and pleasant place to spend some holiday time.

“Ideal family accommodation.”

“Home away From Home”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2012

Excellent service! Instructions were very clear and key pick up very convenient. We were all thrilled when we entered the cottage for the first time. It was very comfortable furnished and immaculately clean. This is obviously a very well loved property. The location couldn't be better for families with small kids as the park is very close. All the creature comforts you could ask for are provided. The kitchen was particularly well supplied and my 'chef' husband had a great time cooking in it every day. I would suggest to the owner that an herb garden in the yard would be a great perk for culinary guests. There was a bit of confusion over the recycling and garbage system. It's much different from here in Canada and we couldn't figure out where to put glass and jars. Overall, a wonderful experience in every way. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Crail!

Response from the owner So delighted to hear that you've enjoyed your stay. One of our jobs when on holiday this year is to revitalise our herb thank you for the tip! Recycling at Crail is a bit of a problem for us - how to make the instructions clear for guests when there are 5 different bins! Glass recycling is unfortunately not done from the kerbside - which is counter to most other areas in Scotland. Instead, guests can either take glass to the recycling facilities in Anstruther (3 miles away) or leave a bag of cleaned glass recycling for our cleaners to dispose of on their route home. Sorry it's not any easier. Susan McNaughton Sandcastle Holidays (Scotland) Ltd
