“The porch is the best thing about this place”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2015

If it wasn't for the porch which provides a semi-obstructed view, due to a dune barrier between the house and beach, I would have been dissatisfied with the house. Additionally, arrived at the house Saturday evening after picking up the keys from the rental company and was looking forward to a shower after a long days drive, unfortunately, the full bath which includes the shower was nowhere to be found in the portion of the house we had access to. After multiple phone calls that night (none of them returned) and follow-up phone calls the next day to the rental company reservations line during normal business hours, we finally received an additional set of keys which included a second "master lock" key which enabled entry into a separate portion of the house (accessible from the outside back porch only). This separate portion of the house included four additional rooms one of which was the full bath. Finally, a shower! Inside condition of the house was fair and really I couldn't expect more given that pets are allowed. Once we adapted to "the ways things were decades ago", the vacation was great -- mainly due to the fact that we spent the majority of our time on the front porch and not inside the house.

Response from the manager Thanks for posting your review. We regret the key fiasco...not a good way to begin your vacation...this has been brought to everyone's attention. Yes, 'the way things were' can be appreciated in many ways, however certain things are expected as we strive to provide the best vacation experience possible. Please come back to stay with Atlantic Realty again!

“Our week at The Way We Were”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2015

At first we were not sure about the house. The breaker for upstairs had flipped off and we had no power upstairs. The pictures online did not show the HUGE dune in front of the house. I have mobility issues and this was a problem. The office stated we could use the neighbors entry. We asked one of them on Saturday. She was fine, it seemed to bother the others. I had limited beach access. Everyone else could climb the big dune. We loved the oldness and oddness of this house. During the cooler temps the house worked the way it is supposed to with all doors and windows open. When it got really hot, we switched on the air. Again the breaker was a problem. I addressed this and the fact that I would have liked to have known about the dune issue.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review; please forgive this delayed response (site issues just got resolved and most reviews just showed up!)as we respond to every review. We do regret the mobility issues that you experienced with beach access and have discussed this with our Vacation Planners. We are pleased that you could appreciate the Old Nags Head Cottage experience and hope that you and your family wil vacation with us again!

“2013 Vacation”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2013

The selling point for this property is it's directly on the beach. The house was built in 1920 and has survived the worst of hurricanes. The owners need to do some major cleaning and replacing of furniture. The couches are like 20 years old and smell like dog even though pets aren't allowed. To get to the bathroom/shower you have to go outside to the porch and enter a separate door. There is a toilet upstsirs and each bedroom has a sink. For the amount we paid I don't think its too much to ask for the house to be clean. We made the best of it and enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking coffee and adult beverages.

Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to post your comments; we value both your time and the feedback. The name of this house sure says a lot…I remember vacationing here in a house that sounds like this one… You are absolutely right that the house should be clean and I have forwarded your comments to the entire staff for resolution going forward. We do hope that you will give us another try on a future OBX vacation!
