“Fantastic spot for families”
This is an incredible home! My family of four stayed here for a few weeks. There were lovely lazy summer days of going on morning walks through the countryside lounging by the pristine pool, spending mornings at local farmer's markets and cooking meals in the beautiful kitchen and enjoying leisurely long dinners in the warm night air. The house is modern, spacious, elegant with all the amenities you might need. It is within a few minutes driving distance to a small town, w/ grocery store, bank, bakery, restaurants, etc. There also is plenty to do in the area with small children, including: Farmer's markets Cahors activities on the rivers: canoeing, rafting, swimming, etc. Little hikes and explorations Historic sites We'd highly recommend this home and the area as a comfortable place to relax and enjoy the quiet, the home, the pool and the lovely french countryside, and as a base to explore the fascinating region of the Lot river valley and beyond.
“"Idyllic French getaway, perfect setting, lovely home, convenie”
This lovely french farm house is nestled among several small villages along the Lot River. It is an island of peace and beauty in a very bucolic setting. The home is comfortable and very nicely appointed. The hostess has seen to every possible need or want. The outdoors spaces are wonderful. We followed the sun from one patio to another and loved floating and exercising in the infinity pool. The hiking is great. Right from the house, we wandered old pilgrimage roads and trails. We enjoyed local markets, wine tasting, and restaurants, visited flee markets and brocantes in neighboring villages and toured widely using "Maison Bons" as our base. It was a perfect "10!"
“Idyllic stay in south of France”
We had a wonderful 10-day stay at the house in august 2011 - so wonderful, in fact that my husband has been checking real estate listings since to buy our own place in Lagarrigue! It was a great base for trips to Fijac, Pech-Merle cave, St-Cirq-Lapopie, Dordogne Valley, tiny hamlets perched above the Lot Valley, etc. The small town of Cajarc was an easy hop for daily baguettes, shopping and drinking apertifs in the shade by the Lot River. The house itself is lovely, pairing portions of the original 200-year old farmhouse (sturdy, thick walls keeping the cool air in) with soaring ceilings and big windows looking out to the views of beautiful grounds, swimming pool, and fields beyond. It's a beautiful & very comfortable home with all the modern conveniences (e.g., Wi-Fi), but we felt like we'd stepped back in time during our stay in "La France Profonde." We loved every minute.
“Comfort and ease in the Lot”
We spent a week in this beautifully remodeled French farmhouse. Adding lots of windows and skylights has produced spacious, airy rooms - a nice combination of warm stone and interesting spaces. Favorite hangouts: the big kitchen and the sunny patio, which faces a landscape of chalky plateaus covered with oak trees and cut by deep rivers. A lovely, comfortable place in a dramatic setting.
“A stunning house in a beautiful, fascinating part of France.”
This former farmhouse is both elegant and warm, with original stone walls and high beams. The house is roomy with lots of nooks and terraces for quiet moments, but also perfect for entertaining family and guests. The kitchen is lovely and modern -- a cook's dream. The house is a short drive from the village for hot croissants in the morning. From our visits, I remember especially the views across the valley at sunset and the breezes at night through our room at the top of the house.
The home has been completely "redone" to afford all the modern amenities, while maintaining the charm of the original country home. The ambience is wonderful, and home is designed and furnished with style and grace. It is a place to relax, and truly experience the real life style of the country French. It is a fairly rural location, but with access to all the grocery shopping, and small village life that you would need. We have stayed here twice, and look forward to being here again.
This house is absolutely the most lovely house imaginable! The setting and the decor are perfectly suited. Quiet, warm, livable--perfect for a couple or small family. If only, I'd go back in a minute!
“Paradise in the undiscovered Lot river valley!”
We fell in madly love with the Lot Valley in 1989 and have been coming back virtually every year since. We had our eye on this now-magnificent house as it was getting built a few years ago, and saw its magical transformation from a remote, rundown farmhouse to what is now our favorite house in the valley. Sheila has brought all of her professional architectural and landscaping expertise to bear on renovating this fabulous property, which is now our very favorite place to stay. The original integrity of the ancient farm has been maintained while being infused with all of the sleek modern conveniences one could possibly desire. The interior is luminous, and the exterior, complete with infinity pool, patios, and professional boules court, is a joy to be in. The house and its terrace have views across the green fields to the cliffs of the Lot River and the wooded hills above them. There are wonderful hiking paths through oak forests in one direction, to the river in another, and toward the fortified medieval village of Calvignac, with its church, towers, and stone houses hanging precipitously from its rocky heights. We can't wait to return!
“Architectural elegance in a bucolic setting.”
If you are looking doe a vacation rental in France, This lovely home combines the best it has to offer: beautiful stone house with a pool and all the modern conveniences. The owner, a internationally known landscape architect, has married the best of French gardens with the gentle hills of the Lot. The house is close to Cahor, the caves of Peche Merle, farmers' markets, but is tranquil. There are two terraces, one for breakfast, one for dinner, multiple levels in the house with lots of light.
“A fantastic house in which to relax and explore the Lot Valley”
My wife and I stayed in this house for several days. The location is ideal, centrally located for lots of exploring; the site is beautifully sited on bottom land along the river. The house in very comfortable and easy to relax in; the recent remodeling makes it a great place to live. There are many hiking trails and several local villages are an easy walk. Within a short drive you'll find larger towns like Cajarc, Figeac, and Cahours (among others). Every day, one of the towns has a market, so the shopping for food is fun and you get all the fresh fruits and vegetables you could ever want. If you decide not to cook in the great kitchen in the house, there are a number of wonderful restaurants not far away. There are also wineries, ancient caves, ruins of houses and churches, etc. You will be hard pressed to find a better locale or a better house. And Sheila was great to work with. I'd return in a minute.
