We had a reservation for a 4 night stay at Clear Pond Getaway Plymouth MA, to visit family in Plymouth. This is a basement of the owner's home and she lived above, after our FIRST night there we got a text message from her while we were at dinner stating "Michelle we need to talk". We got back to the house around 11pm and I went upstairs to see what she needed. She said she was horrified by the way we were treating her rental. she went into our unit while we were out (stating she needed to get to the fuse box) and once inside she saw that we took the mattress off the top bunk of a bunk bed and put it on the floor for the kids to sleep on. Mind you the top bunk which is approx 2 feet from the ceiling had NO RAILING to protect the kids from falling out...they felt more comfortable sleeping on the floor and wanted to sleep next to each other...she called us (All Americans) Pigs and told us Europeans don't act like trash like Americans do (mind you she herself is an American). Also she complained that we left the kayaks we rented from her along the bank NEXT TO HER ROW BOAT SHE HAD SITTING DOWN THERE and told us they need to be brought back up to the house because she said the town has a huge problem with drug dealers coming onto property at night and stealing and she was concerned these drug dealers would take the kayak and could possibly drown in the pond and she would be liable. She said that she MUST require a $500 deposit from us to clear any concerns she has with us. We said we would deal with it tomorrow and went back down to our rental and went to bed...the next morning we were up and out of the house for a family boating day with my family that lives in Plymouth, while we were out we received another text message stating if she didn't get $500 IN CASH from us for a "deposit" we would have to leave...I called Flipkey to report this and stated I no longer felt comfortable staying there with my 3 children and I was NOT ABOUT to hand this woman $500 cash outside of Flipkey. The whole reason of going thru an agency is to protect vacationers from this exact issue!!! My family had to spend part of our vacation trying to find another rental and packing and relocating and PAYING for it on top of what we paid for the original rental.
Response from the owner I do think this review is over exaggerated as to what happened. I did go down stairs to check on the circuit breaker, where I found the bunk bed mattresses had been thrown into the front room along with other furniture, blankets, food, etc. all over the floor. I found this mess after having the Kayaks taken out by the young children without life jackets on, and the parents signing the Boat Agreement. In the agreement parents have to accompany children under 16 years of age, for safety reasons. This couple was still asleep when I asked the ten/eleven/twelve year old boys where their parents were, so we could get it signed. Upon arriving that evening I found the kayaks still down at the beach along with life jackets, and ores. It is clear in the Boat Agreement that the kayaks and equipment have to be brought back to shed, and paid for at that time. They refused to do so. Since I have never had this problem before, I was told that if guests don't follow the house rules and boat agreement, they must be asked to leave or pay a security deposit. So this is what I did. They decided to leave, it was their choice. I am sorry this happened, since it was the first time in four years of business this has occurred.
We recently stayed at Clear Pond in Plymouth Ma. This walk out lower level suite was great for our family vacation. Upon entering our suite, we found it to be bright, clean and very inviting. Debbie was an amazing host .The suite is located a short distance from the beach and 10 -15 minutes from major shopping and attractions. A nice (surprise) addition to our trip was the innkeepers dog, Buddy, who waited for us to return after a day of site seeing. My boys really enjoyed having a dog around since we didn't bring ours. This suite has everything you need from kayaks, to bonfires, hiking, and Wi-fi. A little something for everyone. Thank you Debbie. It was a blast!
“Just the right distance from the city”
This was the perfect getaway for a trip to the Boston area. We knew we would be visiting family in the area, we had tickets to see the Sox play, but didn't want to stay in Boston proper, so this was the perfect place. It is far enough away from all of the attractions of Plymouth, but close enough that you can get to them easily by car in just a few minutes. Access to the highways to get to the Cape or into Boston is easy. The space itself is a basement apartment with the owner living above. There is a small beachfront area on the pond for guests to use that is just a few steps away from your door. The owner is wonderful and while we did not see her much during our week long stay, we knew she was available if we needed anything and we enjoyed talking with her on those occasions when we saw her out with her dogs. Accessibility could be an issue for some with three steps into the apartment and steps to access the shower and the restroom. Otherwise, it is just what you need for a home away from home.
“Better then a hotel.”
Everything was clean and comfy. The pond is incredible and the use of the kayaks was a bonus. Debbie also had wifi which worked out good for the teenagers. There were plenty of electrical sockets which was handy. All the amenities of home, we had breakfast at home in the mornings. Was easy to find and the location was perfect for our needs. We traveled into Boston for the day, was only half hour north. Plymouth was fun for me and my husband we enjoyed the history. Will do this trip again, and recommend highly.
“Awesome stay with my friends”
My 5 friends and me booked this getaway just 5 days before our actual travel date. Everything went smoothly and Debbie, the owner, provided us with towels, linens and small bathroom necessities. She was really caring and friendly and helped us with everything we needed. We had our privacy, it was clean and super cozy. The pond is lovely and the fireplace outside made it even nicer! The house is 10 min away from Plymouth Center and 5min from Stop and Shop and other big stores. The area is really quiet and super beautiful. We all enjoyed it!! We highly recommend it!!!
We drove here for a relaxing 9 nights following a few busy days in New York. Debbie the owner made us feel very welcome during our stay and went out of her way to make us feel at home. The location is ideal for visiting Cape Cod and the islands off it, as well as Boston which is a 45 minute drive. Plymouth harbour is only a 10 minutes away and there are shopping malls and outlets nearby too. Our 2 teenagers loved kyaking and canoing, and we enjoyed walking around the lake.
We enjoyed our time at this Clear Pond residence with our two grandchildren ages four and six. This relatively inexpensive basement apartment was large enough for a small family but in our opinion would not be suited for more than four people. Younger Children will like the private beach area on Clear Pond. Older kids will appreciate access to the kayaks, canoe and rowboat. The location is convenient to the sites and beaches of Plymouth and without the hassle of dealing with traffic going to and from Cape Cod. Debbie, the property owner, was helpful when problems needed to be solved or directions needed.
“Great Place for a Family Vacation, had a very relaxing stay”
Every year my family travels to Mass as we visit family and friends in the state. We decided on this location due to size and location. We were all pleasantly surprised with how much we liked it. The pond was great and while the children played in the water the adults could relax. Rather then visiting my family, they came over to see us so they could be at the pond as well
Response from the owner Leonora, Again, thank you very much for the great review. We look forward to having you back every year. Debbie
“Cozy Romantic Spot”
I surprised my girlfriend for a weekend in this lakefront hideaway for our anniversary away from the city. It's close to Plymouth center, which offers a wide varity of restaurants and shops. The house is also located on a lake with a nice walking path to take day/night strolls. The owner was very accomodating and allows dogs, which was perfect for my girlfriend's dog. The appliances and fireplace was also ideal. Queen size bed in master was comfortable with pillowtop. I would definitely go back!
