“Peace and Tranquillity”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2016

We were welcomed by Dave who showed us around a most beautiful cottage. It was spotless, well appointed and somehow we felt as if we belonged. On top of this Sue and Dave had put flowers in the lounge and left us a tray of eggs, a pot of delicious home made jam and a cold bottle of very drinkable white wine. We were even greeted by Dylan, their lovely dog. Drws Nesa appears to rest in its own microclimate. During our stay it was bathed in sunshine the whole week whilst just a few miles away there were dark clouds and a few rain showers. What a bonus!!

“A perfect cottage in fantastic countryside.”

Reviewed 31 Mar 2014

We spent a super week at Drws Nesa in early March. It's such a comfortable cottage with superb views. We know the area very well, so it was perfectly situated for us to meet friends and family. We walked through the fields to Llandenny to The Raglan arms during the week and visited Usk, Chepstow, Abergavenny, and Caerphilly and managed a few longer walks. Many thanks to Sue & David for a very warm welcome, and for the delicious eggs, marmalade and wine they left in the cottage for us. Further entertainment was provided by the newly - born lambs, the chickens and ducks, the many garden birds and Dylan, the friendy sheep dog... All made for such a relaxing break.

“A wonderful rural retreat”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2013

If you are looking for self catering accommodation for two in a glorious and peaceful rural location look no further than Drws Nesa. We have stayed here regularly over the past few years. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable with superb views across the rolling landscape of the Usk countryside. A feature of this cottage is the conservatory which has excellent views of the owners' garden and surrounding fields. Dave and Sue have placed a well stocked bird feeder a short distance from the conservatory and this attracts a spectacular array of birds. Sitting eating breakfast in the conservatory it would not be uncommon to see daily visits by lesser spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches, greenfinches and other more common birds such as blue tits, great tits and coal tits. We have also seen goldfinches, blackcaps, long-tailed tits, jays and a sparrowhawk. Their hens, ducks, sheep and lambs also provide constant interest. The owners are very welcoming and provide eggs from their hens, wine and homemade marmalade or jam (mmm!) as well as a basket of logs for the woodburning stove. A twenty minute walk along some beautiful country lanes leads to the Hall Inn, an excellent pub offering a selection of real ales and high quality food. It is an interesting walk back to the cottage in the dark! On a clear night there is an excellent view of the stars. There is a range of scenic walks directly from the cottage. The location is ideally situated for many attractions such as Raglan Castle, the Roman town of Caerleon (with remains of an amphitheatre and Roman baths), Chepstow Castle, easy access to west country towns and villages such as Bath and Bradford-on-Avon - just so many places to visit...

“a lovely weekend in a beautiful tranquil spot”

Reviewed 15 Apr 2013

We visited Drws Nesa the weekend of the 9th March and were greeted warmly on arrival by our hostess Sue and shown to our accomodation,we were very impressed by the cottage which is very roomy for two people with all mod cons, all beautifully clean, warm and well presented with a welcoming homely feel. Fortunately for us the weather was fine and bright though cold which meant we were able to get out and walk one of the many walks available in the area.We also visited Tiger Bay which was very impressive with lots of restaurants, shops , a theatre and other amenities to try on our next visit as unfortunately we didn't have time to do it all justice. The location of the cottage means that you can be quiet and chilled out or, if you want, take a car ride visit Cardiff or one of the many other places of interest near bye. If you do not want to cook good food can be had at the local pub which is within walking distance (What we did was drive to the pub ,walk back and picked up the car the next morning) Sue was very informative about the local area and could give us advice on the best places to head for in our limited time. Sue's partner Dave was in the middle of "lambing" and kindly introduced us to his flock and the lambs that had already arrived a lovely experience for a couple of "townies" We both enjoyed our weekend very much and look forward to our next visit
