“Just About Perfect”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2015

We stayed in the Upper Meadow cabin over memorial day weekend. We loved the cabin, and would definitely return. The cabin is just a few minutes from downtown Fayetteville and New River Gorge, so its easy to get to the restaurants in town and access the many trails in the Fayetteville section of the national park. There is also a Walmart a mile or so south of the cabins, if you need any supplies. The cabin itself was just about perfect. Upper Meadow is a 1 room cabin with a queen bed and 3 single beds - they appear to be bunk beds, but are not stacked. It was just the two of us plus our 3 dogs, so this was an ideal set up, but I could imagine if you had multiple kids, this could feel a little cramped. The cabin also features a couch, fire place and mantle, flat-screen TV with DirecTV, coffee maker (with coffee), full size fridge, and microwave. You will need to bring your own utensils, plates, etc. The bathroom is well stocked with towels. This cabin has a nice front porch the spans the length of the cabin with a gas grill. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we were provided with grilling tools and extra propane for the grill! There is also a picnic table and charcoal grill next to the cabin. As a whole, the cabin was very clean, well stocked, and comfortable. The cabins are located just off of Rt. 19, in what appears to be a former campground. A clearing next to our cabin still had several old marked campsites with fire rings. I assume these spaces will eventually be occupied with additional cabins or camper lots, but for now its nice to have such a large open area to walk our dogs. By the second night, all the neighboring cabins were occupied, but we had no problems with noise or getting in and out of the resort. Interaction with staff is minimal by design. I contacted Delores via Flipkey, and got a response within 24 hours. I followed up with a phone call to book. There is no need to formally check in, you can go straight to the cabin and grab the key out of the lockbox - the code is given to you when you book. Checkout simply required cleaning up our food and putting the key back in the box. I am sure if there were any problems, we could have contacted the staff for help, but we had no serious issues. There was only one thing that prevented me from giving this place a full 5 stars. Our cabin had a bat living in the walls. At night we could hear fluttering and squeaking from behind the wall. That bat never made it into the actual living space, but it was a little unsettling to hear it, particularly on our first night. That said, this would not prevent me from renting this cabin again. After all, we came for a rustic cabin in the woods! Overall we loved our stay in Upper Meadow, and would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable and comfortable getaway in New River Gorge.

Response from the owner So happy you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you so much for your kind review. So sorry about the bat. Unfortunately that happens in the woods. Hopefully you will stay with again in the future and hopefully without the bat. We have added disposable coffee cups since your stay. Thanks again. Delores
