Private acreage tucked away in a rolling pine forest with a tiny fishing/paddle boat lake. Gorgeous natural boulder landscaping decorates our trail sides. Mossy forest floors, and too many animals lurking to count. The layout of the property has been designed specifically to seclude guests so they can enjoy themselves without worrying about disturbing anyone.
Our secret cabin "Eleanor" treats people all year long. Built on stilts like a tree house, and in the pines, it has a private campfire area wrapped in a boulder wall. We supply the firewood for free. The balcony keeps you close to nature and the fireplace keeps you warm. There is a Queen bed in the bedroom and a bunk bed facing the many windows into the trees in the open living space. So comfy and cozy, a beautiful cabin to appreciate the simple things. The cabin is stocked well with majority of the goods to keep your outing stress free, such as baking and cooking supplies and all eating utensils to use in the full kitchen: coffee maker/ice cube trays/micro/stove/fridge/toaster/blender. All the linens, comforter/bedding and bathroom/kitchen towels are fresh and provided by us. The bathroom is custom made and ADA compliant as well as the layout of the rest of the cabin, yet there is a slight slope outside to get to the front door. During the Winter we outfit with two sets of snow shoes to explore and snowmobiles are welcome as the trail cuts through the resort. Take a walk through the woods to the little lake to relax. There is no other lodging in sight from the cabin so there is not a care to disturb anyone. We encourage people to bring golf carts or ATV's to explore the property. We also have two golf carts for rent and they are a ton of fun to get around the big property on. Just let us know if you are interested:)
Free: Boat use, we have kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats, and enough random fishing gear to get you on the lake for awhile! Firewood is free here, we have tons of it, do not bring your own. Right now beavers have dammed up our lake and so far they have sunk half the dock, so if they keep going we will have to get a new dock, but paddling to the dam and passed the beaver huts is really cool.
LOCATED four miles South of Shevlin, MN, which is about 3.5-4 hours North of the Twin Cities.
IMPORTANT: Our hallmark is accommodating to each guests different requests or wishes. We pride ourselves in catering to our guests, so just ask. . . If you want a 10 foot tall bonfire, a wedding proposal... :)

“Most relaxing honeymoon ever!!!”
My wife and I went up to Eleanor the day after we got married. It was just the best trip we could have possibly hoped for. After all the stresses (worth it, but still a lot of work:) of a wedding this was just what we needed. We had the whole place to ourselves. The cabin was super clean and modern. The lake was small, but really all you could want as far as canoeing and kayaking. Outdoor fireplace was super neat with the stone seating. Highly recommend! We will be back! Thanks Annie!
“Deserves more than 5 stars!”
This cabin was absolutely amazing. My husband and I went here for our 5 year wedding anniversary this past weekend for a little getaway and couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place. It was quiet and tucked away in the woods. No close neighbors. Peaceful. Everything we needed! We took our snowmbobile out on the trails for over 6 hours. We snow-shoed the next day down a few trails and to the lake. The weather was perfect. We saw several deer while on the trails. The cabin was breath-taking. The fireplace and bathroom were gorgeous. We woke up both mornings to the sun on the tops of the trees. It has a amazing views of the forest. The quality and craftsmanship of the cabin were perfect. You can definitely feel the love that was put into this cabin by annie, the owner. Annie even stopped by one night to make sure everything was perfect. What a great host!! There are some places you go where you can't wait to pack up and get back to your home and reality. You will not want to leave this place. It was so hard to pack up and drive away. We will definitely come back again and would recommend Eleanor to anyone!
“Very nice place for my elderly grandparents to stay!”
Very nice place for my grandparents to spend a night. Beautiful, secluded, neat as a pin...would refer to others for sure! Also--very nice trails throughout the campground. Have ridden horse through as trails are nicely groomed.
“Very relaxing and a fun place to stay!”
My husband and I stayed in Eleanor for a weekend one summer. It was a very relaxing weekend with lots of things to do; drive around in a golf-cart, go for hikes, fish, pick berries, and the list goes on and on! Also, Annie was very accommodating; we collected wild blueberries and wanted to make a blueberry pie but didn't have a recipe, so we asked annie if she maybe had one. She gladly looked one up at her house and brought it to us! That's just one example of how willing the staff is to help their guests have a fabulous stay.
“Stunning cabin, breathtaking scenery, fun atmosphere!”
By far the best place to stay in the area! The cabin is immaculate and smack dab in the middle of the beautiful forest which allows for breathtaking views, romantic sunsets, and wildlife scenery. Perfect for any couple, family, or single person looking to get away and relax or to have fun. Lots of trails, tons of fishing, have a campfire, ride your atv, the options are endless on what fun there is to do at the black lantern! Definitely 5 stars!!
“Beautify, relaxing and a great place to stay.”
The cabin has all the essential comforts of home. The location is beautiful. Get up early and sit on the deck, watch the wildlife, listen to the birds. The lake is not for swimming but it has a nice dock and there are canoes, kayaks and paddleboats for your use. Or just sit on the dock and watch the loons and other wildlife that come for a drink.. You can catch fish right off the dock also. There are all kinds of trails for hiking, atv's and in the winter, snowmobiling. Annie is awsome, if there is anything you need, she is right there to help. I cannot wait until our next stay.
“A place to enjoy mother nature and recharge in the most romantic”
We have been at the very romantic cabin at the Black Lantern a few times over the last couple of years and look forward to many more adventures. The peace and quiet, with a call of the wild every once in a while, is perfect. The bird watching is excellent from the couch in the cabin. Snow on the boughs of the trees is like a picture - just beautiful. From snowmobiling to 4 wheeling to fishing there is just not enough time in a weekend. Thank you for building a place for people to come and get a chance to stop time for a while, enjoy mother nature and recharge.
