“Beautiful cottage and setting.”
We have just spent a week at wheel cottage. We are 2 mature couples from Canada. Lance and Kim were very welcoming and directions to the cottage excellent. The cottage had everything needed for a great stay. The welcoming bottle of wine was a lovely touch after a long drive. Lance and Kim were very knowledgable about the area. We had a wonderful dinner at one of their recommendations. One night we went to the local pizza place and brought home awesome pizza.
“Already booked for next year!”
Wheel cottage and Lance and Kim really are as great as the reviews they receive. Cannot speak highly enough of the beautiful property and the peaceful location. The whole family had a fantastic two week holiday made all the more special by our great hosts. The children loved the outdoor space and couldn't wait to see Buster and Tiggy everyday. The small town of Sourdeval is only 5 mins away by car. Lovely beach can be found at Carolles just up the coast from Mont St Michel. Whole region is accessible from St Malo to Normandy beaches and Bayeux. Looking forward to returning next year.
“Perfect peace in Normandy!! (apart from the odd thunder storms)”
We had a fantastic week with Lance and Kim. At the first meeting we felt as though we were meeting old friends. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they did all they could to make our stay enjoyable and stress-free. The gite had every amenity needed and was spotlessly clean on arrival. The gardens are beautiful and the pond lovely for strolling around. The location was perfect for our needs, right in the middle of beautiful countryside but within easy reach of places of interest. One of the highlights for us (apart from meeting Lance and Kim) was making the acquaintance of Buster and Tiggy the two dogs. We were tempted to smuggle them back with us and I think they were tempted to come!! There was nothing we disliked about our holiday home and couldn't have wished for better hosts. We will certainly return at some point.
“The Perfect Holiday”
First of all our Hosts Lance and Kim ( not forgetting the adorable dogs Tiggy & Buster) couldnt do enough to make our holiday the most perfect it could possibly be. Always there to help you with anything you need from freshly laid eggs to helping with getting orientated with the local area. Wheel Cottage is the most beautiful holiday home we have ever stayed in, perfectly maintained with its traditional Normandy brickwork / beams and stunningly beautiful flowers and scenery. The location was all you could wish for to chill and relax and if you ask nicely Lance will show you how to catch a fish...thanks Lance for helping me and Jordan catch our first ever fish . Lance and Kim are more than just hosts, they work so hard not just to make their own Dream come true but more importantly they want to make your holiday a dream come true too. It was truly the most fantastic and unique holiday experience we have ever had and the worst part of the holiday was...having to leave... not just the most beautiful Cottages you have ever seen or sunsets or scenery behind but also saying bye bye to Lance, Kim, Tiggy and Buster as we developed quite a genuine frienship in such a short space of time. But it was only a au revoir as we will definatley be going back as soon as possible. Thank you both for making our holiday the happiest and most memorable.
What a wonderful find! A beautiful well equipped cottage where we totally enjoyed our holiday in Normandy. Lance and Kim are wonderful hosts and couldn't have been more helpful, a bottle of wine waiting for us on the table! The cottage is surrounded by wonderful countryside and peaceful grounds which you are free to wander around. If you are "doggy" people Buster and Tiggi will give you a warm welcome every morning and wait for you to return after a day out!!! (They will go home when told if you don't like dogs) There are also Shetland ponies to feed, enormous fish in the pond and both rabbits and deer to spot in the mornings coming out of the woods on the hills overlooking the property. Wheel cottage has 2 lovely bedrooms with en suite bathrooms upstairs (1 double and a family room that sleeps 4) with a lounge and large kitchen/dining room downstairs. There is a DVD player plus Sky TV if you don't want to miss anything. A covered patio outside with a barbeque make it perfect for lazy evening meals. Kim tends the gardens and there are numerous pots with flowers around the properties. Lance works very hard and it is all a labour of love, he takes great pride in his work and they both welcome a beer or glass of wine with a chat in the early evening. Both Kim and Lance are like friends who you feel you can call on whenever you need to, they suggest local places to visit that you may not find as they are off the beaten path. Lance also offers a taxi service to a local auberge for an evening meal so no one has to be the "dedicated" driver! The meal was delicious and reasonably priced. Enjoy the music on the journey to and from the restaurant!! The cottage is ideally situated to explore the surrounding area including the D Day beaches which are in easy reach with St Malo and Mont St Michel in the West. Lance will also suggest quiet, easily accessible beaches. Easy shopping in nearby Sourdeval which has several supermarkets and boulangeries plus a weekly market.
My husband is Parisian, we come to France often every year, we stay with family in Paris, we "gite" for 2 weeks elsewhere. As such, we have experienced many gites and really enjoyed the special ones throughout France. But. Le Champs Sous Le Bois has been an extraordinary find; the lovely couple who own the property, Lance & Kim, will make your experience beyond expected--and as hosts, they are the key. Then: the property that they take pride in (and they should)---will exceed your expectations as "gite"---beyond clean, amazing amenities, Lance's 'chauffeur' to local(Auberge Du Moulin)---please ask Lance to sing along with Dean! We will be making our plans for next summer. We will also be making our plans for this Christmas. Our stay at Le Champ will be our Christmas present to our family this year if they can accommodate us!
Cottage and surroundings are spacious and lovely. Helpful hosts - in every way they made the stay memorable. Whether you travel around the surrounding area or just relax at the cottage we would have no hesitation in recommending this property.
Response from the owner Hi Iris and Brian Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us it is very much appreciated. We must say that the cottage was left extremely clean it must have been all those years of teaching home economics. Thank you for that it made our Saturday morning really easy and maybe we should have got a few tips off you before you went home. We hope you had a lovely second week holiday with your family Kim and Lance
“Great cottage, great people, great dogs”
Great cottage, in a wonderful setting. The owners have invested time and love into producing a beautiful retreat. The current cottages are sweet, clean and had everything we needed to be self sufficient for our week long stay. The weather was cold and sometimes wet when we were there however each night we were able to light a beautiful fire which added to the cosy feel of the place. We would highly recommend this property.
Response from the owner Hi Pat Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us it is very much appreciated. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage and hope that you are not missing the wood burner too much because it is actually still cold enough to use it. Kim and Lance
“Beautiful cottage, idyllic setting, wonderful owners!”
We stayed at Wheel Cottage in august 2012 and found the whole holiday second to none. Kim and Lance and their dogs are wonderful hosts, the cottage is stunning as are the gardens and surroundings. It is a lovely part of France with lots to do nearby. We were also very lucky with the weather. Cherry Cottage is also absolutely beautiful We will definitely stay again and cannot recommend it highly enough.
The most perfect holiday home we have stayed in for a long time with High quality fixtures & fittings. Kim & Lance (Owners) were extremely friendly and helpful. Location was excellent. Would highly recommend.
