Chestnut Sweet, in Marblehead's historic Shipyard neighborhood, is a romantic, private hideaway offering new, top-drawer cottage furnishings and services, easy access to town and beach, and hosts who will welcome you like family. We're within sight, sound, and salt-water air of the ocean for guests looking for a short-term stay (3 nights to 4 weeks). Enjoy two elegant floors in a stand-alone building, with fresh, contemporary cottage-style decor. Your hosts live just across the garden and are available 24-7 for whatever you need for comfort and ease. On the GARDEN LEVEL: a bed/sitting room, convertible love seat and large closet; living room with gas fireplace and flat screen TV/DVD; full modern bath with rain-shower, full vanity, and stacked washer-dryer; and kitchenette (Keurig, micro, toaster-oven, mini-fridge, electric kettle, dishes, flatware, and glassware). On the SECOND FLOOR: a luxurious queen bed (all towels and high-end linens provided, including beach towels), half-bath, ceiling fan, closet, skylights, and great privacy and quiet. We are air-conditioned throughout. Enjoy the garden from your own brick patio, with seating. Parking is free. Laundry and cleaning services weekly. Wi-fi equipped. This little gem sleeps a couple divinely, plus an occasional guest. We welcome kids over 12 but no pets. We're smoke- and tobacco-free, quiet, and private, less than a block from the water, and an easy stroll to town, shops, and restaurants. Nearby Salem and all of Massachusetts's North Shore Iare within reach and offer their own delights. Come for a weekend, stay for a week or a month, and soak in a bit of New England history. We're avid gardeners and colonial historians, and we'll warmly welcome you to Chestnut Sweet. Rent: $170 per night, two-night minimum, payment in advance, plus a returnable security deposit. There is a $50 cleaning fee per week for stays longer than one week. Open April 1 to December 1 (exceptions on request).

“The home and stay were wonderful - perfectly wonderful!”
The rental home is amazing. The home is decorated so tastefully, and it is filled with very quality furnishings and linens. We felt that the home was quite spacious and the layout worked very well for us. The microwave, keurig and mini-fridge were all that we needed. The electric fireplace was perfect! We would absolutely rent this home again if/when in the Marblehead area. The location is unbeatable as it is near the coast line, stores, and restaurants. Chestnut Sweet is on a side road and there was plenty of street parking. Francie and Bob were helpful the whole way through - from booking..through arrival/departure. They were available if we needed anything, but everything was set up in a way that there were no questions or needs.

I must apologise for taking 8 months to post this review. This was our fourth visit to Marblehead from the U.K. Accommodation has always been excellent but this property was exceptional. I can only concur with previous five star comments, adding that Francie and Robert waited up for us when our flight from London was delayed. ChestnutSweet is definitely our first choice for a future visit to Marblehead.

“A Wonderful Stay!”
My wife and I traveled to Marblehead in early April and stayed 5 nights at Chestnut Sweet. We had a wonderful time visiting Boston, Marblehead, Gloucester, Salem, and Rockport. What a beautiful area! Francie and Bob were wonderful hosts and were more than happy to answer any questions we had and offer guidance in getting around the area from the best ways of travel to the best local resturants. “Like being met at the door with a pair of slippers and a glass of wine after a hard day at work.”
Can't say enough good thing about our stay here. Hosts were friendly and accommodating. The cottage was amazingly clean and wonderfully decorated. The linens, pillows and towels were all high quality. Our host thought of everything to meet our needs from a bottle of wine to a tube of toothpaste. The location was wonderful too. We spent a lot of time in Salem that is just a short drive away, but we look forward to going back in the spring to explore the beaches and small towns in the area.

“Perfect Vacation from Our Vacation!”
We arrived at Chestnut Sweet a bit worn out from the previous 6 days with friends exploring Cape Cod, and the Kings' attention to so many luxurious details made for a wonderful two days to rest and recharge. From the premium bottled water chilled in the little kitchenette to the lovely bottle of Italian red wine awaiting us, we found everything we might need or want at hand. Fluffy robes, cozy bedding and a fantastic high-end bathroom (and a half, upstairs) -- they have thought of it all. We took their restaurant recommendations and were happy we did, and we also borrowed from their nice collection of travel-related publications to spend a fun rainy day exploring the North of Boston route by car. As former vacation home hosts on Flipkey ourselves, we truly appreciate the considerable time, effort and thought that the Kings have put into Chestnut Sweet. I cannot imagine a nicer place to stay, in or out of the city of Boston.

“Warm, Cozy, & Clean”
Wonderful and recently refinished garage apartment with private sitting room/bedroom, living/TV room, kitchenette, full bathroom on the first floor, and a loft style bedroom with a half bath on the second floor. Owners have done a beautiful job designing the layout and decorating the entire place, with premium furniture and accessories. Although they give you plenty of privacy, they are so nice and friendly, you feel tempted to befriend them and share a few glasses of wine in the garden. Great attention to detail much like a hotel stay with carefully placed free hygiene products and bottles of water. I would recommend that the owners up the WIFI strength a bit - although in a retreat like this one, you don't necessarily need connection to the outside world, but it's nice to have on a rainy day in case you want to watch a movie on Netflix or something. There is a TV with basic cable. Overall, I love Marblehead and this house is close to both the historic downtown area with restaurants and shops and Devereaux Beach, where they have stand up paddleboarding for $20 an hour and parking is only $10 for the day. Nice and easy commute from Boston or anywhere else you may be coming from, as the North Shore is devoid of the annoying Cape summer traffic!

We were in Marblehead for only a couple of days but what a welcome cottage Chestnut Sweet was! Perfectly clean and incredibly comfortable, we wish we had more time to have been there! Delightful location in a pretty little neighborhood within walking distance of so much! Immaculate and tastefully decorated.
