Ian's Cottage sits in a lovely location here at Brickyard Farm. It is surrounded by fields and has stunning views of the Mendip Hills yet is only a few minutes walk into the picturesque village of Wedmore where you can visit the local pubs and enjoy shopping for local produce, arts, crafts and vintage items.
Located on the edge of the Somerset Levels which is well known for it's National Nature Reserves this is a great place for bird watchers and wildlife lovers and there are excellent opportunities for walking, cycling and riding. Here in the winter months huge flocks of starlings can be observed wheeling across the sky before coming to roost in the reed beds on the Somerset Levels, an extraordinary natural phenomenon featured on BBC Autumn Watch. We also have plenty of wildlife in the garden including badgers, foxes, rabbits, buzzards, a barn owl and woodpeckers.
Golf, clay pigeon shooting and fishing are all available very locally.
Somerset offers a variety of places to visit. Within easy reach of the cottage are the City of Wells with its magnificent Cathedral and Bishops Palace, Glastonbury with its mystical Tor and Abbey steeped in the legends of King Arthur, magnificent Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole caves. Vibrant Bristol and the elegant Georgian City of Bath are within an hours drive and there are many historic houses and gardens such as Tyntesfield (NT) and Longleat. How about a day at the races at either Wincanton, Taunton or Chepstow.
Originally Ian's Cottage was a small barn which has been converted to provide comfortable and characterful accommodation. Inside is a beamed living/dining room with a sofa and armchair and a wood burning stove for cosy evenings by the fire as well as a dining table and chairs. Books, CD's and games are provided or you may prefer to enjoy your favourite programmes or films on the Smart TV. The compact kitchen is well equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, washing machine and fridge with icebox. The bathroom has a bath/wc with shower over the bath. Please note that the some of the doorways are slightly lower and narrower than standard doors as this is an old building. An initial basket of logs for the wood burner is included.
Narrow wooden stairs lead to a beamed double bedroom on the first floor with 5' bed, there are marvellous views of the Mendip Hills. Our linen is luxurious egyptian cotton and each guest is provided with a soft bathrobe, slippers and a fluffy bath sheet and towel.
Outside is a south facing terrace and lawned garden. Garden furniture and a barbecue are supplied. Parking is right outside the cottage.

The cottage is situated approximately quarter of a mile down a farm track, it is quite accessible for all but the lowest of cars.
Covid 19 -We want you to feel reassured and confident that we are doing everything we can to keep you safe. Between bookings we will be following government guidelines for deep cleaning and disinfecting the cottage with products known to be effective against coronavirus and our cleaners will wear a fresh set of masks, gloves and aprons for each changeover. Our bed linen and towels are sent to a commercial laundry where everything is washed, dried and ironed according to strict hygiene protocols to ensure it is safe to use. Cleaning products and hand wash/soap will be provided for your use in the cottage.

The village of Wedmore is a real surprise with everything you could need on the doorstep. There are 3 pubs which vary from standard pub fare at the New Inn at very reasonable prices, to the very smart Swan Inn which has a quite different menu and higher prices.

We had a wonderful week staying at ian's Cottage in Wedmore. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, Underfloor heating and the woodburning stove were much in use during a week of rather cold and wet weather. Fiona welcomed us when we arrived and provided a super 'welcome pack' including homemade bread, marmalade, cake, bacon, eggs and more-all delicious. The wifi wasn't working when we arrived and Fiona offered to get it reconnected, but it was actually quite refreshing to have a week of not checking emails and social media. We were delighted to be adopted by one of the farm cats, who popped in every day to say hello and get a cuddle. Plenty of wildlife to be seen right outside the cottage including owls, squirrels and rabbits. Wedmore itself had everything we needed with three pubs and the shops all within a short walk. Perfect central location to visit Wells, Cheddar and Glastonbury. We loved our stay and would recommend to anyone looking for a cosy retreat in a rural location but with lots of amenities and attractions so close by.
