Description
Our Castel incorporates two recently converted self contained holiday rentals (gîtes), both have magnificent views and are named after the local (Griffon and Egyptian) vultures that often fly overhead. The one referred to here is the larger Griffon gite that can be rented with 3 or 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
We give a discount of 10% for couples who only want to use one bedroom so let us know when you send your request and we will adjust the cost for you. For more on pricing see the "Pricing" notes below.
We are situated in the Aveyron department at the south-west corner of the Cévennes National Park just 80 minutes from the Mediterranean. A 30 minute drive down the beautiful Dourbie valley brings you to the historic town of Millau where the crystal clear Dourbie (ideal for fishing) meets the river Tarn that then winds through the town and passes under the world renowned Millau Viaduct. More locally, a 10 minute drive up the Dourbie valley takes you to the 10th century village of Nant equipped with a variety of shops and restaurants. From our rock we have a 360 degrees view looking up and down the Dourbie valley and also up the Trevezel valley. The views from our garden are stunning, especially with the evening light in the valley winding into the distance.
The area is a paradise for people with a variety of interests including walking, bird watching, fly fishing, cycling, paragliding, canoeing, geocaching, butterflies, orchids, the Tarn & Jonte gorges, fantastic scenery, Roquefort cheese, Knights Templar fortified villages...
INDOORS
Satellite TV gives you access to all the UK FreeSat channels.
The TV gives you access to French Terrestrial Digital Channels.
We make available all our Books, Games, Puzzles, CDs and DVDs in our shared library.
Music CDs can be played on the DVD player.
OUTDOORS
Another terrace shared between our gites is available for use with access via our garden or bat cave!
Our 800 square metre shared garden with its "mushroom" shaped rock and petanque (boules) court is also available for you to relax in.
Swimming is possible in the river which is a short walk from the gite.
Trout fishing (by any means) is available in the river (permits about 30 Euros).
Being a very small fortified village with no through road, parking is available 100m from our gites at the village entrance.
Help is given on arrival to get your things to the gite.
We provide you with binoculars and a telescope for bird watching.
We also make available a hand held GPS device (SAT-NAV) programmed with the local walks. It can also be used to hunt for one of the 870 local (34 km radius) geocaches.
PRICING
Please note that there is a 15 € per week fee for bringing pets.
A tourist tax (imposed by our mayor's office) is due on arrival and this is 0.50 € per person over 17 years old per night.
Like most French gites our gite should be left as you found it, if you don't have the time to clean it before you leave we can clean it for you at a cost of 65 € - please let us know in advance if this is required.

No smoking inside the gite.

Response from the owner Thank you again for your review. Yes, the hand held GPS devices are quite handy as they really do stop you getting lost. You forgot to mention the fly fishing (I'll get you your permit online when you arrive again this year) where it's impossible to get lost there - just follow the river.
