Description from owner

Description

An elegant and spacious detached villa with private gardens and pool, occupying a unique location in a quiet corner of the village of Gaucin, within minutes walk of all its amenities. Ideal for both summer outdoors and for outdoor plus cosy indoor living in cooler months.

Beautifully furnished throughout, and decorated with the work of local artists, the villa has four double/twin bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms suitable for up to eight guests. A stunning forty-foot long, five-arched covered loggia runs along the front of the house, overlooking the garden and offering extraordinary views to the coast over miles of unspoiled countryside. At one end of the loggia is an outdoor dining area, ideal for long lunches, as is the large mosaic table on the garden terrace below - just choose the location that suits the mood of the day.

The salt water (no chemical chlorine) swimming pool is surrounded by mature gardens, with terraces on different levels stocked with fruit, almond and olive trees and a wide variety of flowers and shrubs. The villa is also a great location for exploring the art, architecture, history, music, food and wine of this most evocative region of Spain. One of the most beautiful and authentic 'white villages' in the whole of Andalucia, Gaucin is also home to more than a dozen international artists, who have their studios in and around the village.

The village is lively and friendly, and although small, offers a variety of restaurants and bars, as well as shops and banks, scattered throughout the pretty, winding streets. Overlooking the village are the ruins of a Moorish castle giving incomparable views over to the Mediterranean coast, North Africa and Gibraltar.

“Simply fantastic in every respect”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2015

We had a superb time at Villa Los Buhos in beautiful Gaucin. The house itself is very special with marvellous features, architectural detailing and large rooms. It has an airy feel with large picture windows with superb views and great terraces for al fresco dining and chilling out. The build quality is exceptional and all bedrooms are quiet and very private, it's important to have your own space from time to time on any vacation and Los Buhos provides that. The gardens are delightful as is the swimming pool and terrace area which gets plenty of sun but trees and pergola's provide shade when needed. Its location means it's only a short walk to Gaucin centre with its shops, restaurants and traditional Spanish atmosphere. Hosts Jacqueline and Ian Cockburn were always on the ball with information and help about virtually anything. One evening we were treated to a Spanish dinner cooked by a visiting professional chef accompanied by a flamenco guitar player, all on the beautiful and warm main terrace. The surrounding area also offers stunning scenery and views, art, culture, great food and warm hearted people. Perfect. We'll definitely be back and highly recommend Los Buhos for a highy quality stay in every respect. Richard & Anna Cuthbertson

“Lovely place, welcoming and cultured hosts who know everything the area has to offer.”

Reviewed 14 Dec 2014

We stayed for a long weekend at the beginning of August, long enough to enjoy the village and make a trip to Ronda, soak up the heat, cool off in the pool and enjoy views of the Rock of Gibraltar and lights of Africa from the terraces.. One evening we had a beautiful walk in the nearby hills, something we would not have thought possible given the heat and our lack of knowledge of the area. The villa is spacious and all the rooms furnished to a high standard with an en suite. Our room had access to a small terrace with lovely views. One word of warning. The villa and gardens are on several levels so not ideal for anyone with difficulty managing stairs. Best of all was being looked after by Jacqueline and Ian who are not only distinguished art historians but also experts in the food and wine of the area.

“A rare gem of a traditional Andalucian villa in Gaucin.”

Reviewed 10 Dec 2014

Situated within easy walking distance of the restaurants, bars & shops of the charming village of Gaucin, this stunning villa offers views across to the Rock of Gibraltar and, on a clear day, even as far as North Africa. A total refurbishment of the villa having just been completed, we enjoyed an idyllic week in this lovely property. The spacious living rooms and bedrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished to the highest standards in the traditional Andalucian-style that ensured a comfortable stay. A large balcony and open area overlooks the swimming pool, as well as a delightful Japanese-inspired garden. In short, this is the perfect choice of villa in which to unwind, relax and to re-charge one's batteries. I will return.
