Description
Casa Violeta is a simple and relaxing home base on Vieques. Casa Violeta is arranged as two bedrooms (one king, one queen), two baths, a good sized living and kitchen space, and a small laundry room. There is a large front porch which is shaded most of the day (with hammocks provided), and a small back porch which is shaded in the morning and which we use for a breakfast area, as well as to view the sun going down at the end of the day. There is a small garden on the side of the house with Banana, Mango, Papaya, Orange and Sour Orange trees (feel free to eat the fruit in season).
The house sits slightly up from all the houses in front of it and gets cooling sea breezes. There are ceiling fans in all the main rooms, screens on all doors and windows. There is no air-conditioning, but you will find that you don't really need it due to the sea breezes. Also there is no glass in any of the windows (this is typical for the island, glass is not really needed).
Casa Violeta comes fully equipped with modern appliances: refrigerator, stove (gas), microwave, and washing machine. There is no TV, but there is a radio, cassette and CD player. Bed linen, bath and beach towels are included.
There is an emergency water supply which will provide you with water for about a week in the event that the city water goes off. (If you are unfamiliar with island life then you should know that infrastructure breakdowns such as this are a regular occurrence and you need to be prepared for it).
The house is situated in a quite cul-de-sac street one block back from the sea front, five minutes walk from the town beach and all of the main restaurants. There is a "Colmado" (a small corner store type shop where you can get most basic foodstuffs) a minute's walk away along the street, and next door to it the town bakery where you can get your bread and cinnamon rolls in the mornings, and Pizza in the evenings. There are sea views (we are about 200 yards from the sea), but they are currently mostly obscured by vegetation. (Note: this was not true when we bought the house. Every ten years of so a big hurricane will take out all the vegetation and open up the views, then it grows back again.)
The house sleeps four comfortably (two couples), more if you are willing to squeeze a little. We do have an additional blowup double mattress, and we have no objection to children or small adults sleeping on the sofa, so you can fit a few more people in though with less comfort or convenience.

“Lovely ocean-view house in Esperanza”
