Description from owner

Description

The Dairy is a tastefully converted 18th C barn halfway between Ludlow and Church Stretton. Surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with views up to 20 miles along Wenlock Edge, Clee Hill and towards Ludlow, our 18th C stone and wood framed barn is a peaceful countryside haven yet only a mile from the nearest town. The bedroom has a double bed and a cot is also available at no extra charge. Near to the Spa town of Church Stretton, (known as Little Switzerland) and Ludlow (regarded by many as the finest Medieval town in Britain) The Dairy is ideally situated for touring Shropshire and the Welsh Marches border area with its wealth of ancient castles and churches. Rated 4 Stars by Visit Britain and 5 Stars on TripAdvisor, it features underfloor heating, woollen carpeted bedrooms and natural slate floors combined with original oak beams and high ceilings for that authentic country atmosphere. Guests love our warm welcome of home made cakes, beverages with fresh milk and flowers. A gourmet meal delivered by Van Doesburg’s Deli can await your arrival and tempt your palate on any other day of your stay with us. Dining out is one of the prime attractions of this part of South Shropshire with fine restaurants, bistros and quaint English tea shops. A good range of takeaways a supermarket, shops, bank and petrol stations are found in Craven Arms just one mile away. Ironbridge World Heritage site with the world's first iron bridge and ten museums is a 30 minute drive away and our visitors are eligible for reduced entry to any of the museums during their stay. The BBCtv Victorian Farm at Acton Scott is within easy reach. The modern Olympics originated in the picturesque small town of Much Wenlock where an annual Olympiad is still held each summer. The award winning Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and renowned Stokesay Castle are within easy walking distance from The Dairy. Relax in our pretty cottage garden with its two patios, Coalbrookdale furniture and barbecue and enjoy wonderful walks or cycle rides from right outside the gates. Once you have stayed at Highgrove you will surely want to return soon as so many of our visitors do.

Response from the owner As The Dairy was recently awarded a Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor and our reviews have an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 Stars it is disheartening to learn that your experience was so different from other guests. We will however, expand the description of the kitchen to differentiate it from the larger Byre cottage, the image of which should not be included for The Dairy. The IKEA cushions were replaced only last year but we appreciate that the rocker/semi-recliner chairs are not to every taste but appropriate for the cottage and there have been no previous complaints. However, we will bear your observations in mind at our next update.

“A short break”

Response from the owner We are sorry that The Dairy barn did not live up to your expectations. We will re-consider our policy on skylights and security in our ground-floor properties following your feedback, although we have only had one other person in twelve years ask for the skylight pole which is available on request. The unaccustomed Floridian weather during your short stay was we guess a factor in your assessment. The shower room has an automatic air extractor which has been found more than adequate for ventilation. The Dairy is our smaller barn and is only for two people. We recollect you informed us that the cottage you prefer to stay at is for four and much more spacious in a stand-alone position. Both our Dairy and Byre cottages are attached former barns with natural limitations on space but have been carefully planned for comfortable one-bedroom accommodation at reasonable prices. Just before your late booking the couple who stayed in The Dairy rated us five stars, as do 99% of our guests. They are long-time HPB bond-holders who take several breaks a year and rated us as equal to the properties they regularly stay in with HPB which is the gold standard in self-catering properties. We have, ourselves visited their award winning resorts and we were honoured by the favourable comparison. We take all comments very seriously as we have retained our four-star Visit Britain rating since we opened and our TripAdvisor reviews do we feel speak for themselves. However, there is always room for improvement in any service and we will be looking again at our policy.
