Description
Rare property offering riverside access and private fishing on the river Charente. Beautifully secluded yet within walking distance of Civray market town, restaurants, bakeries and supermarkets which makes for a totally relaxing holiday. If you wish to drive, then days out at Poitiers (Futuroscope), Angouleme, Cognac are within an hour. Seaside trips to La Rochelle, Isle D'Oleron and Royan are within a couple of hours.
One of only two houses with river frontage in this part of Civray the grounds have 500 metres of private fishing on this prolific river. The front garden is walled and gated to the river so secure for children of all ages (and swimming dogs!), yet the rear garden is open and shaded by Walnut and Peach trees. There is a shaded terrace for alfresco eating and picking your own grapes to go with the local Goats cheeses.
Civray has recently opened an indoor and outdoor pool complex a 5 minute walk away, prices from 3 euros, whilst the local campsite, restaurant and bar, with a swimming area for wild swimming in the Charente is even closer, frequented by the local youth and resident Coypu .
As this is our home, we have fully equipped the facilities with good quality items, and fitted Sky TV in order to keep in touch with events. Wood for the fire is stored should it be needed

“Ideally located gite”
This is a delightful, fully equipped gite and we have been very comfortable here. The outside space is outstanding with its large gardens and riverside position. Sun loungers, a covered shady terrace and private fishing make this a great place to relax. There is also a great barbecue for the evenings when you are not eating out; but there are some great options for restaurants and bars in Civray, a short stroll away - notably O City Ven (open Fri and Sat evenings and some lunchtimes). Lorraine and Serge have been very helpful and friendly throughout, giving up to date info on all sorts. The walks around Civray are well worth doing - well signed and easy underfoot. Recommended!

“Fantastic French home in a lovely location!”
Spent a wonderful 5 weeks at this lovely French house. From the moment we came into contact with Lorraine and Adrian they couldn’t have been more helpful; from the fantastic welcome pack, to the list of things to do in the area. The house is tucked away in a lovely part of Civray, right next to the river and opposite the island that you can stroll around and if you’re feeling fit, have a go at the exercise and trim trail! The house was lovely and clean, comfy beds and living area and has everything you need, it’s kitchen is very well equipped and has a washing machine and large fridge/freezer. When we were there it was very hot but the house stays lovely and cool, and there’s a gorgeous terrace area outside that overlooks the park, great for people watching and eating out and there’s an abundance of wildlife; coypu, woodpeckers, cuckoos, owls and beautiful kingfishers! The centre of town is only a 10 minute walk away, perfect to get your baguette from one of the two fabulous boulangeries. There’s cafés and restaurants, and shops to get the basics, however 5 minutes in the car will get you to the 3 bigger supermarkets. There’s a fantastic new swimming pool (with indoor and outdoor swimming pools) We bought a pass for 10 swims for €35 +€3 for the card you keep and keep topping up. A great asset to the town. There’s loads of places to visit and if you love fishing, walking and cycling (we took our tandem) the countryside around is beautiful; sunflowers and sweetcorn everywhere and the roads are lovely and quiet. Further afield are the old towns of Confolens, Poitiers and Chef Boutonne, the waterways at Coulon (known as Green Venice) the memorial town of Oradour-sur-Glane, Cognac, and you can travel over to the coast in a couple of hours to Île d’Olèron, La Rochelle and Rochefort, well worth the trip - the seafood is delicious! All in all a fabulous home from home. We’ve already booked our next stay!

“Charming, peaceful holiday home”
We were fortunate enough to stay at this lovely house for 3 weeks and we couldn't have wished for a more relaxing holiday. The riverside house is fully equipped with everything you may need during your stay and it's in a fabulous location, close enough to walk to the town, whist being very peaceful, with loads of lovely places to visit within a 20 minute drive. The owners could not be more helpful, they gave us lots of info before our trip and were contactable during the stay if needed.

“Felt like wind in the willows”
Peace and tranquillity, Good size house, plenty of room, never felt as though we were cramped, even when the weather was bad. Small but well appointed kitchen, plenty of china cutlery glass ware good size fridge freezer ect. Enough bedding and towels. Civray has a good selection of supper markets shops bars and estate agents, with the added bonus off the Tuesday morning market all very good. Attractions we visited were, castles ( but shut on Tuesdays all day) caves and local walks. Found the people not only friendly but very pleasant. We ourselves, are planning a return trip.
