Description

2 Bedroom self catering C19th stone cottage just outside Peterborough in a picturesque village, situated on the banks of the river Nene. Secure behind their own automated gates, the private drive has parking for two cars. Easy to find with A1 (M) and A 47 near by and on the boarder of three counties; Cambridgeshire, Northampton and Lincolnshire; this is the ideal spot for, many activities or doing absolutely nothing.

PLEASE NOTE : The Pool is outdoors and is seasonal. It is open from 1st April to 30th Sept. It is HEATED from 1st June to 31st August.

“Beautiful Place”

Stayed at River Nene Cottages for a weekend get together with old friends. Cottages are exactly as beautiful as the photographs or better. The gardens are lovely even in Autumn and you can sit in a beautiful pergola watching the boats going through the lock. We stayed on Barley Cottage with beautiful vaulted ceilings in the bedroom. We took a short drive into Stamford for shopping and finished it off with a strawberry gin at The George Hotel. Owners Stephen and Phillip were very welcoming. We will definately be going back.. what a find.

A conjoined cottage, just off the A1 near Peterborough, which is very handy for travel from London. Charming cottage and very courteous hosts. The pool was a delight since it was a visit during the height of summer. Some lovely walks close to the cottage. Very secure and private.

Response from the owner Bless you and many thanks for your very kind review. I am glad you had a lovely time and that your three furry beasts enjoyed the surrounding countryside. As with most things in life there are some compromises, one of which is that the listed cottage building does not allow us to enlarge the windows. We appreciate the exposed beams are traditional brown at the moment and we are embarking on a complete change of internal scheme next year which will help address this. Many people do comment positively on the non shabby-chic'ness that has so often become the norm these days; quaint, quirky and traditional. With regard to the A1 we are about 500m off the road sited right next to the River Nene. The big positive of this for a lot of people is the shear convenience of simply turning off a major route. Yes, if the wind blows in our direction then we are affected by some road noise, but generally with a different wind direction and the noise of the water pouring over the river lock gates, one isn't always aware of this. This is only the second time in our 18 months of operation this issues has been raised by guests. As a business and a village we are currently in negotiations with Highways England to resurface the A1 past us with 'quiet tar'. Best wishes from us both !

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I make changes to my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your booking page. To change your dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Stephen & Philip (the owner) a message.

If Stephen & Philip (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
