Our family of six stayed her June 2014. The house fit our needs and the location was perfect. We have been to Kauai multiple times (8-10 over the past 20 years) and prefer the Kapaa area above all others. It is a convenient launching point whether you are heading north to Hanalei or south to Lihue or Poipu. Many restaurants and the ABC store are just minutes from the door. The first thing we did upon arrival was rent 6 bicycles for the week from the little store on Inia street across from the Ono shave ice stand. Every morning we rode bikes along the 4 mile path. The views are spectacular! My teenagers rode their bikes to Kealia beach about two miles away and swam daily. Only two complaints - two of our kids had to sleep downstairs (two bedrooms up and one down). Downstairs is not air-conditioned and it became pretty hot. They suffered through until the third day when the ants were too much to handle. Little ants everywhere, even in the beds. At that point they moved upstairs and one slept on the sofa bed (not pulled out as the mattress was too thin) and the other on the floor. Take care of the ant issue and get an air-con unit for downstairs and this easily becomes a 5 star place for a family of 6! Oh and wifi is extremely limited - we had about 2 hours a day where we could get wifi.
We were quite disappointed upon arrival. The house itself was adequate, but very dated. Although it is explained there is a day care facility next door, it actually takes up half of the ocean side yard and is in front of the house.. This takes away from the atmosphere and detracts from the ocean view. That being said, a greater concern was that next door to the south is a vacant lot with a huge pile of rubble. Adjacent to that is a shack occupied by numerous people who come and go all day and night. This was not disclosed when describing the rental property. The road on the side of the house ends at this property and is used for people to access the beachfront. At night the vacant lot next door and parking area becomes a popular place for the homeless, people living in cars, and undesirables to party and conduct miscellaneous activities and transactions. We were extremely uncomfortable and limited our activities after dark. Sleep was disrupted with loud noises and nightly activities taking place next door into the wee hours of the morning. The BBQ grill definitely needs to be replaced. We would not return to this property although we enjoyed the bike trail which runs for miles along the shoreline and the close proximity to the ocean.
We could not have hoped for a nicer place. Right on the beach, close to bike rentals, great restaurants...we want to go back for sure!!
“Convenient location and well equipped house”
We hardly used our rental car because shops, restaurants, a sandy beach, the walking trail, and a Hawaiian church were so close. The house was clean and well-equipped. The breeze was wonderful. Our only concern were a group who camped out beside the road about 50 feet from the house and lived out of their 4 to 6 vehicles for our entire two week stay. This woke us up many times due to their frequent visitors.
“great place to stay”
Very clean, comfortable beachfront house for our group of 5 adults and 1 child. The kitchen was large enough for more than 1 cook and had a good amount of cookware although there were only enough dishes for 6, necessitating frequent dish washing. We had several small maintanace issues and they were promptly dealt with. There are ants but I suspect that is a common problem in Hawaii. The deck faces the ocean and the bike path - great for sunrises, people watching or even exercising yourself! We enjoyed being able to step out of the house and onto the beach. Ocean waves were too high in front of the house for the toddler but Baby Beach is only about 1/2 mile away.Beach mats and towels, sand toys, boogie boards were provided. Kapaa is a good location for exploring the whole island and is a nice little town - a place where people actually live and work instead of a fancy resort. Shops and restaurants are only a couple of blocks away. All in all a great place to stay!
The property is dated, but is kept very clean. Despite being located next door to a daycare facility ( you can't sleep in anyways because of the roosters!), the location is excellent. You can walk, run, or bike on the strand just in front of the property. It is an easy stroll to restaurants and shopping in Kapaa. No worries about having a Longboard or two and then driving home. It was easy to stock up on supplies with major supermarkets on the way from the airport. Speaking of the airport, it is only a 15-20 minute drive. The terrace is the best part of the house. I loved having my coffee watching the sunrise. The owners really need to invest in some better deck furniture. Also, the deck is screaming for a hammock. Please!!! My wife was not traveling with me. It was a group of guys along with my 23 year old daughter and her friend. My guess is she would not have liked the property as much. The worn carpet, rusted beach chairs, and old TV would not have met her standards. We were there to hike, dive and kayak. For our group, it was a great value. The question that you always ask: would you rent there again. The answer is absolutely yes (as long as my wife is not with me!).
Response from the manager Mahalo for your review. We do agree that the location of this home is absolutely wonderful! The close proximity of Kapa'a town yet the sound of the ocean is what you mainly hear. The large deck is a definite great feature. We will definitely pass on your suggestions to the owners who live on the island and look forward to having you back! Aloha!
“Location, lanai, view...breathtaking!”
What an amazing experience we had in Kauai for our visit to this beautiful island. Kapa'a by the sea was perfect in every way...great location to everything on the island, comfortable beds, amazing views, walking distance to anything you need and clean.
“Spacious house on the beach!”
We loved our stay. The house was large enough for us to have some quiet time to ourselves, while being right on the beach and within walking to shopping and shave ice. The cross breezes cooled off the house quickly, and the air conditioning was wonderful, too. Central location on the island made visiting various sites accessible. It was a wonderful week.
It was truly a wonderful vacation house for us 5 sisters. Everything was clean and well equipped with everything you would need, including comfortable beds. Being so close to the water was so very relaxing. The most awsome feature was the upstairs porch overlooking the expanse of coastline. Wow is all I can say. Fantastic sunrise!!
“Amazing & Memorable Experience!”
We stayed at this beautiful and relaxing beach home for 7 amazing days and we loved everything about this house. It is conveniently located to everything! Many thanks to the property management for providing us with the comforts of home. We will definitely stay at this house on our next vacation. Love it...Love it...Love it!
