Riverview, Kandy is a beautiful, modern bungalow snugly situated on the banks of the longest river in Sri Lanka, known as the Mahaweli. This lovely homestay takes pride in offering its guests a quiet, serene and peaceful environment, just a few 2.7 kilometres away from the city. Guests can enjoy restful moments relaxing on their private balconies, sipping a hot cup of tea, listening to the ripples of the river, after a long day of sight-seeing at the historical city of Kandy.

All of these pleasing environmental attributes of Riverview, Kandy is not far away from the city. It is only a 15-20 minute drive by car from the Railway Station. Our team would be glad to pick you up from the airport or from the Kandy station at a reasonable price. Furthermore, Peter with his carful driving skills and knowledge about local attractions is always prepared to either pick or drive guests to and from their requested destinations in the family car.

Our passion is to provide a good cultural experience to all our visitors. We believe that a complete vacation is when foreign visitors leave Sri Lanka enriched by its culture; and this is most possible by sharing the homes of typical Sri Lankan families. The Riverview Team goes an extra mile to offer a personalised service to all their guests so that they experience the values and principles of Sri Lanka. Guests can enjoy delicious meals personally prepared by Irene who has been hosting and engaging guest since 2 years. Here too she prefers serving typical Sri Lankan meals to enhance the feeling of the Sri Lankan culture. Her breakfasts are comprehensive with local dishes, so much so that guests tend to order other meals as well. The family extends their personalised service from accommodation to all the necessary daily needs of our guest.

The Riverview, Kandy homestay is an attractive 3-storyed home with 6 comfortable large bedrooms, 5 with attached modern bathrooms. The rooms are bright with high ceilings, large windows, fans and private balconies. Two Air-condition rooms are available on request at extra cost. Guests enjoy their stay, especially the evenings at Riverview, Kandy as it offers the perfect ambiance for relaxation. The riverfront views from all room balconies are unique to this homestay. Adding to this ambiance, over the river are the lush mountains of the Udawatte forest reserve in Kandy. Some guests tend to extend their stay specifically for the peaceful and relaxing environment this homestay has to offer. The home is complete with a lounge area and dining area overlooking the wonderful river views, and a large open kitchen. It is furnished with modern equipment such as a double door refrigerator, gas cookers etc. Parking is available for 2 vehicles.

The little well-terraced garden beside the river offer the ideal setting, to sit and relish a hot cup of Sri Lankan tea, enjoying the fauna and flora that surrounds Riverview, Kandy. For the more daring and brave visitor and dip in the river is possible too; very importantly, with the advice of the host, as waters can be rough at certain periods. All these and more, makes Riverview the perfect stayover when in Kandy for families, couples and individuals.

Getting around

The sea plane lands in Polgolla which is about 2 kilometres from the homestay. The Bandaranaike International Airport is approximately 110 kilometres away and if guests are arriving directly from the airport, they will enjoy a scenic drive through the mountains into the Central Province of Sri Lana. Once again, the host is willing to pick guests up from the airport, with prior notice. Parking is available at Riverview, Kandy

The host is ever-willing and looks forward to support their guests in whichever way needed to make their stay at Riverview, Kandy happy and memorable. Irene and her family would love to interact with the guests and have a chat over a cup of tea or even a meal. She would love to share her passion for cooking and invite visitors to join her in preparing a meal. She would even love to teach them cook a simple Sri Lankan dish. Guest interaction is her forte. The family is even willing to suggest visits to places of interest within the city of Kandy or on the outskirts.
