“Cozy place, comfortable living area, close to beach”
From the upstairs window you could clearly see the Prom, the dunes, and the ocean beyond. It is a wonderful location which is super close to the beach and a reasonable walk to Broadway and downtown attractions. The cottage sits at the very rear of a lot shared with a larger "mother" house. The driveway and parking is very tight, with one spot directly to the right of the cottage. The small driveway area in front of the cottage and to the right of the cottage belongs to the "mother" house. We have a compact car and found the driveway and parking spot to be very difficult to get out of after parking. It required a multi-point turn in the gravel area to the right of the cottage to get turned around to drive out of the driveway. There are retaining walls on either side of the driveway which have to be minded as you drive out or else you will scrape your car or bumpers. There is very limited parking on the street, so don't bank on that being available should your vehicle not fit or driving prowess not be up to the very tight parking area. The cabin itself is very cozy. Kitchen, dining area and living area are in the same room. The living area consists of a love seat and matching chair facing the front windows and a small LCD TV setup. The kitchen table has 3 chairs and the kitchen is reasonably well equipped; fridge, full stove, dishwasher. The laundry center is one of those stacked units. The bathroom is at the rear of the Cottage and is a fairly recently remodel. It is a nicely sized bathroom with plenty of room to move around in, a very nice vanity and a large stand up shower. The bathroom also has its own heater, to take the chill off the morning. The upstairs is the bedroom. It is equipped with one queen bed, a sleeper sofa and a chair and ottoman. The views from the upstairs window to the ocean are mostly of the surrounding properties, but if you look to 2 o'clock you can see lots of ocean and sand. If you leave the window open during the night you can hear the ocean all night long. During our stay we had one very cool morning in the house which would have necessitated heat, however the only heat source in the cottage is a gas fireplace, which according to the agency will sufficiently heat the whole cabin. I don't disagree with that statement, but the stove had the gas shut off and there were no instructions on how to start it up. At this point the only heat in the cabin was the heater in the bathroom and a large space heater that I found in the closet containing the water heater. I did not use the space heater. By mid day the outside temperatures had become pleasant and the house itself warmed up quite nicely. I come from the land of air conditioning due to more extreme winter and summer temperatures and feel that the cottage should be upgraded with a mini-split heat pump to allow for more automated year-round air control. Oh, you may ask what would I do in this cottage if it got very warm? I'm not sure. There was no fan anyplace in this location, so the only way to cool the place down is to open all the windows and hope for a breeze. The whole cottage was very clean. The kitchen was spotless along with the bathroom. There were sufficient dishwasher tablets and laundry soap for us to clean our dishes and run a few loads of laundry while we stayed there. Bathroom amenities were pretty limited. We were provided with one very small bottle of shampoo and one hotel sized bar of bath soap for the shower, bathroom sink, and kitchen sink, respectively. By the end of our stay the bars of soap were completely used and the one bottle of shampoo was also gone. Towels and washcloths were plentiful and in good condition when we arrived. Heating and air conditioning issues aside, this is a prime location, close to beach, not far from downtown Seaside, very clean, and well maintained. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
