Receive a warm welcome at this owner hosted, artfully restored 1914 farm house surrounded by hundreds of acres of rich farm land and perfectly placed in the Mad River estuary. It is just steps from the river and a ten minute walk to miles of pristine beach. There are 2 12 foot kayaks available for seasonal use by guests along with life vests (at their own liability risk). Sit on the porch and relax to nature's sounds: birds chirping, waves crashing, river currents lapping the shoreline and wind rustling through the trees. Sara and Ty will meet and greet you at the cozy and comfortable two story, 2 bedroom home filled with vintage charm. They designed a one of a kind river rock hearth and wood burning stove that create a warm glowing ambiance in the family room. Cozy up by the fire and enjoy a movie on the 40 inch Smart T.V. Both bedrooms are bright, cheerful and boast comfortable Queen beds with Egyptian cotton linens. The downstairs bedroom has a romantic East Indies decor with mosquito netting and Indian art. The small but complete and fully stocked kitchen is a delight for cooking. The bathroom is beautifully tiled, has a refinished deep vintage cast iron bath tub, rain shower head with exposed plumbing and galvanized metal surround creating a real rustic farm house feeling. Recycled Redwood accents and surf art add even more character to this quaint river home.
Sarah, Ty and their young son live just next door on the property with their 3 wonderful dogs and Blaze, their 23 year old sweet Arabian horse. They are happy to show you around the property and even share their paddle boat. The property has a 1/2 acre garden with river access. The flowering gardens include several rose varieties, different types of lilies, fuchsias, and salvias. There are two 30 year old tree ferns, an apple tree, along with maples and other flowering trees. Guests will also enjoy the large organic vegetable garden with raised beds. About a 1/3 of the property is used by Blaze the horse. Blaze has a sweet, good nature, but unexpected quick movements will spook him so guests need to refrain from going inside the fencing to visit with him. Please watch children closely so they do not put themselves into harms way out of curiosity. At the back of the property is an open grass lawn that contains a fire ring. Off the back lawn is a path that leads you through the trees, to the gate that opens up to the river. In the summer at low tide there are expansive gravel bars to sit on and read a book, wade in the pools dug out by the river, or walk across the river to a trail system on the opposite side. During the summer season, at high tide the river becomes like a still lake deep enough for canoes, kayaks, and shallow hulled boats to venture a couple miles up the river to the 101 bridge, or the opposite way toward the beach/dunes.
The estuary, farm lands, beach, and dunes are a constant changing tapestry of color that many types of wildlife call home. While relaxing on the bank or exploring the water way by boat one might see seals and otters hunting and playing, by day. Armed with an Audubon an explorer will see many different species of birds including swallows, kingfishers, herons, egrets, ducks and geese, as well as various kinds of Hawks and other birds of prey. At sunset sit out on the river bank, sip a glass of wine, listen to the stillness of the evening and possibly you may see the resident beaver swim up the river.
