Description

CUDDEN VIEW COTTAGE has a private balcony with superb sea and coastal views, and Castle View Cottage, next door, has its own private garden, with spectacular views of St. Michael's Mount and Mount's Bay. The cottages were recently refurbished to a high standard but have kept their individual feel, with vaulted ceilings and light, airy rooms. In order to take advantage of these views, the cottages have been arranged with living rooms on the first floor and sleeping accommodation downstairs.

“Marazion Xmas”

Reviewed 25 Dec 2022

A warm but basic 1980's style accommodation. Expected a little Xmas cheer but unfortunately there were no decoration at all! Would have been nice as booked from 17th to 24th Dec!! Take your own towels as had to ask for them, normally would be included as linen. Everything worked in the house apart from Tv losing signal in the stormy weather and metal strip constantly clanking oitside on Veloux window near door! Overall a nice relaxing week but house could do with a thorough clean as lots of cobwebs, shower cubicle had lots of mould. Worse thing was the horrible smell that greeted us on arrival which we could only think may have been the old storage heaters or the previous occupants had a love of onions!! Good value.

“Perfection”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2021

We were so blessed to stay in this property. It is in a brilliant location, with a 5 minute walk to Marazion and St Micheals Mount (which you can also see from the balcony - see pics!) The property itself is a perfect space for a couple, with all the amenities you could need for a relaxing time away. It’s clean, comfortable and has all you need for cooking meals, relaxing and a good nights sleep. Richard and his family are so helpful too, it was lovely to meet him on arrival and for him to show us round the property. We were so lucky to have beautiful weather, meaning we were able to enjoy breakfast on the balcony. So it definitely has everything you need and want. Definitely recommend going to Philps for a pasty, the Kings Arms for dinner and also the Fire Engine Inn did the best pizza again with beautiful views of the Mount. The rest of Cornwall is also so accessible from here too - so easy to get out to St Just, Sennen, St Ives by Train and Porthleven. It’s a really good base to stay in. Can’t wait to come back to this property and place in the next few years.

Glad of such comfortable clean accommodation , as weather wet and windy. Very well equipped, so content with sea view and cooking for ourselves as went prepared for lock down.

“Lovely”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2020

Booked this cottage before covid, wasnt sure if we would be able to go but glad we could in the end. Cottage had views of the sea and St Micheals Mount. Marazion itself is lovely and St Michaels Mount is breath taking when seen across the sea. The cottage had everything we needed and the owners are only next door if you need them. They were very helpful and reassured us about the extra measures re cleaning -they left us more than enough supplies such as hand gel, handsoap, anti bac wipes and sprays etc. Richard was extremly helpful when I had issues with my booking on the website. The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the south Cornwall area and we were able to walk along the beach from Marazion to Penzance. All in all a very enjoyable holiday.

Response from the owner Please read the other reviews of Cudden View Cottage, which should give you a much better idea of what the cottage is really like. There are plenty to choose from, and this review only goes to show you can’t please everyone!. In fairness, several points were brought up that needed addressing. The exterior painting has been done, there is a new balcony table, and we now regularly check leaflets and discard old ones. However, much of this review seems exaggerated and even misleading, and is at odds with the other reviews of Cudden View and with general feedback from guests. The headline ”needs updating all round” has no bearing on the review, which identifies nothing in the cottage in need of updating other than the brochures! The cottage is described as basic: no it isn’t. We don’t do basic, and we don’t do cheap: a quick glance at the other reviews shows that it is well-equipped, has everything needed (it has a washer/dryer, not a washing machine) and is comfortable and has charm! This reviewer would seem to be in a minority of one. The sheets are good quality, not cheap; the mattress protector (nothing like the hospital ones) is there because we have had to replace several mattresses in the recent past due to ”mishaps”. I appreciate that sleeping may have been hot and sticky - we were hot and sticky, everyone was hot and sticky: the reviewer was here in the middle of the longest heatwave in Cornwall since 1976, with exceptionally high temperatures both day and night - no one slept comfortably! However, the mattress cover could have been removed, an extra under-blanket/sheet could have been provided, we could have supplied a fan - the reviewer simply had to mention the problem and we would have promptly dealt with it, but instead she chose to say nothing and then complain later. As for noise, It is implied that the “busy road” is busy 24 hours a day - this is completely untrue. It’s a narrow, winding street running through Marazion, not a busy main road (heavy traffic goes on the Marazion bypass), so what traffic there is is slow-moving and, while levels vary during the day, it can’t be seriously be described as busy and, in the evening and overnight, traffic is virtually non-existent - you wouldn’t hear it in the bedroom anyway. It is useful to note that this reviewer lives in Orkney, on an off-island, on what appears to be a no through road, which may well explain why she thought it busy - anything would seem busy compared to that! No one else staying at the cottage has mentioned this as being a serious problem. The reviewer has pointed out a couple of minor differences between the online photos and the cottage as it is. That said, the photos (and the details) also clearly show that there are no tubs of flowers on the balcony and no pictures on the walls, so why is she complaining that they aren’t there? The new building (which takes away only a small unimportant corner of the view) wouldn’t have been visible anyway - the only reason that it can be seen is that we trimmed the trees and bushes (shown in the photo) at the start of 2018, which previously hid the building - these are now growing back. The view of the cliffs and the sea is unchanged. We provide (not cheap) plastic chairs and a table for the balcony because, being by the sea, wooden furniture rots and metal furniture rusts. We don’t understand why anyone would need furnishings to tell them where they are - if uncertain, a glance though the lounge window or from the balcony should clear up any doubts. Welcome packs are probably intended for holiday cottages where nobody is available to greet guests, which we do on arrival. However, this point has been mentioned before, so we now provide tea & coffee bags, sugar, milk and biscuits for guests on arrival.
