You’ve just found the antidote to the American lifestyle. You can take I-70, but the 90-minute drive southwest on Colorado State Highway 285 sets the stage gently and beautifully for your visit to Hoosier HideAway. Far kinder than I-70, you can avoid those frequent closures and 4-hour jams on Sundays or snowy days.
Want to get away...really away? We have a landline, but cell phones are inconsistent here until they are switched over to Hoosier Hideaway's WiFi. (We provide the phone number with the check-in instructions. There is high-speed WiFi.)
Imagine the possibilities with this property! This home can comfortably accommodate groups up to 16. Every bed in the house has newer pillow-top mattresses, except the bunks. It’s 4756 square feet of 5-Star-Opulence with WiFi, many satellite TVs, and whole-house audio with on/off and volume control in every room and on the deck, but you may find yourself just gazing into the magic of the old-growth Pike National Forest behind the house, mesmerized by how the air smells. One neighboring home is barely visible, in the middle of the jaw-dropping beauty of the valley leading toward Hoosier Pass from Fairplay...10,200 feet above sea level. Also, only 4-wheel drive in winter months.
The kitchen has granite counters, stainless appliances, a massive island and room for tons of helpers, has one large table that seats 7, plus a small table in one corner for folks to take care of small children or read the recipe book. Dining room seats 12. The floor plan is wide open everywhere but the bedrooms, so you can always keep tabs on what’s going on with the rest of your party, even from a different floor if you’re standing in the right spot. It’s a natural floor plan for folks to go off into smaller groups with multiple places to play games, watch TV or chat. Also great for folks that might not know each other very well to mix and get acquainted comfortably in a delightful setting.
The spacious back yard doubles as a trailhead, leading through Pike National Forest to Mosquito Creek, a 5-minute stroll (******* yards) from the back door. If you keep going, you will discover a network of forest service trails that are suitable for hiking or mountain biking. Watch the kids make a tree (or snow) fort just out the back door. The fire pit in back has a huge pile of firewood right there, and a 2-seat Adirondack chair!
