This is a bona fide mountain retreat.

Our ”Hillside Cottage” puts you in woodsy neighborhood, at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, in a cozy big bear cabin with WiFi and central heating. The ceilings are vaulted, the fireplace is wood burning. The yard is forested and hilly. The cabin sits up high from street level, giving you a commanding perspective of the surroundings. The steep driveway can be testing, but the mild challenge is worth it.

Our guests enjoy spending time on the wood deck, which wraps around the front and side of the cabin, interrupted only briefly by the stone exterior of the fireplace flue. There is a propane BBQ, patio chairs, and a swing under the part of the deck that’s roofed. The propane is on us.

Hillside Cottage has an open layout which makes it feel very spacious. The living room is open to the kitchen/dining area. A brick, wood-burning fireplace accents the high vaulted ceiling in the living room. There is a smart TV and complimentary WiFi so you can watch your favorite shows from streaming services like Netflix. Bedroom 1 has a double bed. Bedroom 2 has (2) full sized beds. We can comfortably accommodate up to 4 guests. All linens and towels are included.

At Hillside Cottage you’re just 2.5 miles from Oktoberfest at the Big Bear Convention Center. It’s just about a mile from the Bear Mountain Ski Resort, the Golf course, and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo. It’s about 4 miles from downtown and with 3.5 miles from lake access at Meadow Park.

Q: How do we check-in?

A: Detailed instructions on how to check-in are sent in the confirmation email. The person in charge of the reservation must obtain the access code to the cabin at our check-in office. This is an ordinance from the City of Big Bear Lake. If you will be arriving after hours, contact us to make special arrangements.

Q: What time is check-in and check-out?

A: Check-in time is 3pm and check-out time is 10am. During the Christmas and New Year holidays, check-in is at 4pm due to high demand.

Q: Are linens and towels provided?

A: Yes. Linens and towels are provided enough for 4 guests.

Q: Do I need chains? Will there be snow during my stay?

A: Always carry chains in your vehicle if your trip falls between November and April. Our guests can check weather and road conditions in real time by clicking on the links in their confirmation email. We can’t accurately predict when there will be snow.

Q: Is the firewood provided?

A: We do not provide firewood. Firewood is easily found around town at grocery stores, convenience stores, or firewood businesses.

Q: Do you provide propane for the BBQ?

A: Yes.

Q: Do I need to take my trash at the end of the stay?

A: Yes. In accordance to City Ordinance all guests must take the trash to a disposal site at the end of the stay. Trash bags and directions to the disposal site are available at the cabin.
