Description from owner

Description

A unique opportunity has arisen to stay in one of the most historic palazzos in Tuscany: Palazzo Vanni. Until earlier this year, this Palazzo was owned and occupied by one of Italy’s most famous families - the Vanni family for over two and a half centuries. It has just been acquired by the Brennan family and is for the first time available for holiday stays. It nestles within the breathtakingly beautiful Tuscan village of Belforte. This town-palazzo is the prominent building in the village sitting centrally on the main street. It is positioned over three floors with a front balcony, a dining terrace and a panoramic roof terrace. Truly an authentic Italian experience.

The house has maintained its traditional and original character since 1750 and has not been insensitively modernised. It has many rooms including five large bedrooms and three bathrooms, a beautifully presented huge drawing room with medieval Tuscan decor, dining room, several other rooms typical of a grand previous era and a TV room with table football. Rooms contain original furniture and antiques and beautiful beamed ceilings and original floor tiling is present throughout. With large windows from most rooms offering views on to the stunning countryside or on to the village street, Italian nature and banter are never far away. It is never hard to follow the sunshine: enjoy your morning coffee on the balcony at the front of the house, eat alfresco-style on the dining terrace which opens up from the dining room and have pre-dinner drinks on the roof terrace whilst enjoying panaromic views of the local beautiful countryside (see photos) or night sky. All six bedrooms are of a very good size will real beds and not bed-settees or such-like.

Belforte is simply a beautiful and authentic Italian experience. It contains a friendly bar and restaurant, grocery, post-office and two medieval churches from which the local bells will ring out to urge you to wake and savour this magical place. The people are incredibly friendly and will help you in any way they can. Here you can sample local olive oils, wines and lots of other local produce.

The neighbouring village Radicondoli (7kms away) is another splendid example of a medieval setting and is slightly bigger than Belforte. It has several very good restaurants, several small bars, a couple of shops and the ancient church of St. Simone. Throughout the year there are a number of cultural and local festivals in Belforte and Radicondoli. There are football, tennis and child play areas (there is also a good play area in Belforte). There Is an excellent tourist information centre here and a bank with ATM.

Colle di Valle D’Elsa, the neighbouring town is about 25 kms away and has a large swimming pool. It has many shops and facilities, a fabulous old town (accessed by the glass elevator!) and a beautiful square to enjoy an evening meal or a coffee.

Siena is about 40 kms away and is a truly wonderful city, with what has been described the most beautiful square (Il Campo) in Italy. Il Campo is scallop shaped is surrounded by ancient structures and houses the famous Il Palio. The wonderful Florence is about 60 kms away.

It should be noted that there is a skeleton bus service from Belforte to these neighbouring towns, but a car makes the experience many times more convenient. There is a car parking facility within a two-minute walk accessed via a small arched walk way. In the car park free and cold natural water is available to fill up all your drinking bottles. It is also worth noting that the house does comprise several staircases to access all parts of the house.

Guest access

All space in the house is for the visitors exclusive use. Stefania our house manager who lives within a minute of the house will be available throughout the stay.
