The recent renovation brings this Grade II listed traditional Cumbrian long house back into habitation for the first time since 1764 and retains its original features including old ship timber oak beams, oak mullion windows, flagged stone floors, open fires and stone staircases.

Though Hall Farm is no longer a working farm, its position on one of the higher hills in the Eden Valley gives it amazing views towards the Pennines and the rolling countryside that has seen this area in Cumbria declared one of the UK’s designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Glassonby Hall has a galleried dining room with massive stone fireplace, a sitting room with woodburning cast iron stove and a large breakfasting kitchen with four oven Aga. It has a ground floor double bedroom with 5′ king size bed with a private shower room, a four poster Master Bedroom suite, a twin bedroom and a third double bedroom with a 5′ bed. Glassonby Hall is dog friendly and there is plenty of room for them to run around in the enclosed rear garden and excellent nearby walks.

Getting around

Glassonby Old Hall is located just a couple of miles off the A686 which is a beautifully scenic route from Penrith and crosses the River Eden. The road continues to climb the Hartside Pass to a height of 1904 ft, from where you will find magnificent views across the Eden Valley, Solway Firth and Scotland. The Settle to Carlisle railway runs through Langwathby which is only a short drive from Glassonby Old Hall. The railway has some of the most attractive scenery & is world famous for its Victorian architecture. Penrith train station is on the West Coast Main Line, the railway linking London to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh & Glasgow. Glassonby & the nearby villages offer wonderful walks with beautiful scenery.

We also send our guests local information about 'what's on' in the area during their stay. Guests have sole occupancy of the property during their stay and our Manager is available by telephone at all times.

Never having rented a holiday let before I am absolutely delighted with my choice of Glassonby Old Hall . It has stunning views , quiet roads that you can safely walk or cycle on: simply perfect for a peaceful retreat away from the humdrum of everyday ( city) life but my absolute delight was the house itself . There is nothing : and I mean nothing , that isn’t provided for you. It is just a perfect home away from home and you know when you’ve chosen well when after only a day after arriving there you feel as though you have been there for weeks . A perfect restful bolthole ; extremely well maintained and presented and obviously very much loved and cared for by its owners .
