'Palaoa House' is located 1.5 miles from the plantation town of Na'alehu. If you enjoy hiking, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park recently opened a new unit 2 miles from the property. Explore the trails while taking in spectacular views of the ocean, rolling green hills, and native Hawaiian ohia forests.

The surrounding area also boasts several remote beaches, archaeological sites, and small towns with an old Hawaiiana feel. Visit the nearby Punalu'u Bake Shop to taste a mouthwatering fresh Portuguese malasada. Check out the Na'alehu Farmer's Market to browse homemade goods and local foods, or head a little further up the shore to Pahala for coffee and macadamia nut tasting at Ka'u Coffee Mill.
