“Podernuovo offers a unique opportunity to see the real Italy in” Service: Alvina and Umberto are the perfect hosts, friendly and helpful, well-informed as to what to do and what to see. The accommodation: The villas are superbly appointed with every modern appliance, yet from the exterior they retain their rustic charm. All the windows overlook the vineyard and olive groves and the spacious terraces are the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of Umberto's wine after a day of exploring. Location: Podernuovo is well situated to visit the many medieval villages Tuscany is known for. We have had 10 stays at Podernuovo and have enjoyed wonderful day trips to Collodi, the town of Pinocchio Pistoia, Sant'Antimo abbey, to listen to the monks Gregorian chant and Saturnina to luxuriate in the thermal baths. Alvina and Umberto's local knowledge also extends to the most novel and interesting restaurants in the region. The village of Castel del Piano is a 10 minute stroll up the hill and boasts excellent supermarkets, cafes and bars. What did we like best? My husband and I love everything about staying at Podernuovo as witnessed by 10 stays there! Perhaps however, the fact that it is truly unique Italian experience, 'off the beaten track' in a sense and in a place where tourists do not abound (and where villagers are friendly and welcoming), sets it apart from other villas we have stayed in. I simply can find nothing about Podernuovo that doesnt delight both of us. In fact, we are already planning our next visit for 2013.

“We felt so comfortable and 'at home'- a beautiful experience!” Staying at Casina di Rosa was a wonderful experience myself and my traveling companions will never forget, and hope to do again. It is a cozy,spotless, peaceful,beautiful space obviously meant to make travelers feel at home. Everything was lovely. We enjoyed having a fully equipped kitchen at times when we did not want to go out to eat, but stay in- relax and enjoy local specialties from the area. The village is charming and there is everything one would need within a short walk. Gloria and Marcel are warm and welcoming and always available for help if you need it...just absolutely lovely people. We were 3 ladies in the villa and were perfectly comfortable. The ambiance of the villa and where it is located defies description-the vistas are amazing.The village is located in one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. I cannot imagine staying in and being as comfortable in a hotel after this experience. Also, it is so centrally located and easy to access all of Tuscany and surrounding areas from there. I cannot say enough about it. We are back home in the us and all of us a bit 'homesick' for Civitella Marittima and Casina di Rosa.

Villa Guarda Mare - Spectacular Pool with Sea View
Two perfect weeks in a perfect ambiance

In 2012 i stayed in Guarda Mare for two weeks with some friends of mine. Even more than a year afterwards the time there has a unique, shining brilliance. Guarda Mare was close to perfection, a wonderful residence, perfectly embedded in its environment. The view was stunning by day and night, only sometimes clouded by fog. It was a good starting point for day trips and nature hikes (but be careful - a GPS isn`t necessary but advisable. ^^ The kitchen was really functional, i missed nothing when cooking. The great desk was central point for the group, not only for eating but for gaming and talking as well. I remember two things, that were not so good: One of the sleeping rooms was only accessable through a bathroom or from the terrace. And your car should have some chassis clearance, if you drive to the house, there were some bumps and pot-holes. Otherwise, real perfection means boredom, and Guarda Mare was close to perfecetion in the true sense of the meaning! If you're booking the house i wish you a pleasant, joyful time like we did. The time in Roccatederighi and Guarda Mare was precious, and remembering the days fills me with glee! P.S.: It was a good starting point for groundhopping as well. On the other hand Italy is full of football hotspots, so that's not a unique merit of the house. Woh cares, enjoy your time there! :-) … see more
Time in Tuscany - The Villas at Podernuovo
Family time in Tuscany

This is our second visit to Podernuovo as a family. We chose to come back all the way from Australia because we loved this farm in its beautiful location. A taste of real un touristy Tuscany. We grew to love the village of Castel del piano which was a pleasant walk through the top gate of the farm. Our family enjoyed sitting by the spring, feeding the donkeys, collecting chestnuts and walnuts, picking fresh figs, eating grapes in season, fresh pasta from the village, the fireplaces and the views from every window to local farms and hilltowns. Last time we came Alvina and Umberto taught us how to make bread and this time we learnt how to make cherry gelati! The farm vegetable garden and fruit trees and Umberto's wine add to the feeling of a home away from home. Alvina and Umberto are kind informative and hospitable. We used Podernuovo as a base - we relaxed on the farm and every second day took day trips to Siena and Assisi , Mt Amiata, and Mt Labbro (this time) and to Sant Antimo and Montalcino(last time) It is so accessible to so many places! We stayed 6 days last time and came back for 2 weeks this time. A wonderful relaxing place to stay. … see more
Casina di Rosa - cozy home in a village in Tuscany
Great Location and Quaint House

This house delivered on everything that was promised on the website and previous reviews. The town is small and very quiet. We enjoyed the exploring the town, its restaurant is great and the great views from the city walls. The house provided a great starting point for all our day adventures. We enjoyed having access to a kitchen and being able to cook for ourselves several times. We spent several hours a day sitting in the kitchen planning on next adventure. Being in the house made you feel like you were truly experiencing Italy. The bed was very firm. A lot different from what we are used to but we did not choose this house based on the bed comfort. If the comfort of the bed is extremely important to you, I would contact the owners for more information. … see more

what a wonderful place

It was an incredible pleasant stay in the artist's house flat in Scarlino, Tuscany. The apartment is really nice and full of art to be discovered. The garden is a charmfull place to relax under the shadow of the olive trees surrounded by wonderful flowers and art-pieces made by the great artist by Mauro Corbani. The apartment has a big balcony with an astonishing view to the sea, the Elba island and the typical tuscanian hills. Laura and Mauro are very kind and have many good hints and tips to discover the region and really enjoy the italian lifestyle with the best addresses for good wine and food. What an inspiring and pleasant stay! We will for sure come back and can only recommend it to anyone who wants to find a place that inspires, near the sea, in a fantastic medieval town to discover, full of typical Tuscan views.
