“beautifull, comfortable, quiet, newly equipped” this spot -a little bit outside the city- is a quiet place, with a nice overview on the countryside between Modica and the sea. The swimming pool was big and clean. our apartment was well / new equipped, as was the kitchen. The airco was necessairy (due to the bed on the mezzanine), but well working. In the neighbour area you find houses under construction, but this was not disturbing the athmosphere. Antony the "house keeper" was very kind and helpfull when necessary. in the region we found many nice places of various kinds (history, nature, little towns) to visit. shops in neighbourhood, but car is required.

“A beautiful tranquil retreat hiding behind the most amazing cath” We were lucky enough to be some of the first guests to stay at Hortus and from the moment we walked through the very understated (but very stylish) gate, to the moment we left we were completely blown away with Hortus. The thought and care that had gone into each and every detail of the property from the different themed bedrooms, the antique linen, the ultra modern kitchen to the fantastic garden with it's orange and pomengranate trees, was incredible. Hortus mixes the old with the new beautfully. Luca and Paulo have done an incredible job with renovation and have incorporated many of Sicily's natural features, beauty and materials into the property: the huge garden table and sink, the specially commissioned hand basins in the bathrooms, the spiral staircase to wine cellar, the indoor spa, the plunge pool.. I could go on, but you need to discover it's charm and secrets for yourself! If that isn't enough to tempt you, the lovely amalia is on hand to make sure that you are looked after. Nothing is too much trouble from booking private cars, tours, recommending restaurants, hair appointments - whatever you want to do, Amalia will help if she can - She treats you as if you were a guest staying in her home. Add to that the fact that you are in one of the most stunning locations in Sicily, the shops, cafe's, bars and holidaying amongst some of the most friendly people I've ever met and you've got a holiday that is very difficult to beat. In short, it's a stunning holiday property that will always shine very brightly in our memory and keep us coming back to Sicily and the wonderful city of Modica time and time again. Bravo!

18th Century Home with Captivating Historic Charm
Modern spacious comfort in beautiful historic bones

The apartment was the best of nine two bedroom apartments we have encountered so far on our travels through Italy. Italian apartments in historic centres are usually small but this apartment has an upper level with an open plan connection between kitchen, dining and lounge but at the same time these spaces are all still their own rooms - not massive but spacious and comfortable for 5. Add the two outdoor spaces and everyone can find their own hot/cool/quiet space as needs in this light and open level. The kitchen was also the best appointed we've come across and the easy parking close by was also the location of the fresh fish and vege stalls. The downstairs bedrooms were very generous and comfortable and the two bathrooms modern and comparitively large. We loved Modica for its baroque charm but also it's realness. Unfortunately too many historic italian towns have turned into tourist museums and/or upmarket shopping centres for tourists and the locals have shifted to cheaper locations. Not so in Modica, it's a bustling town with lots of real shops. lots of locals with plenty of great food options and it all starts just 5 minutes from your door. … see more

What a wonderful place ! we enjoyed the place just like the pictures promised we would : located at the hart of ancient Modica, the place offers a splendid view on the valley and St George Dome, which enchanted our breakfasts and evening dinners in the kitchen or on the terrace. This little house is a piece of art of great comfort and taste. Casa Orni is a cosy, well furnished and graciously decorated appartment with a spacious terrace, offering a mesmerizing view on old town Modica. The welcoming with flowers and fruits is hearthwarming. The place looks very nice on the photos, but the reality is even better and was beyond any of our expectations. It takes about 45 minutes to drive from Comiso airport and there is parking at 5 minutes walking distance from the house. Note that you need to do stairs to and from the house, as well as in Modica in general, since this is a town surrounded by hills. But the famous, delicious chocolat, the many nice restaurants, cosy coffee bars and the friendly people are worth every step. … see more

very nice, very friendly - a house to feel at home

We spent 1 week in that house and it was a very positive surprise. Arriving at 10 pm was no problem. Elio waited for us with delicious food, a bottle of wine, water, coffee, tea ... The house is situated south of Ragusa on farmland with 2 neighbouring houses. It is ideal for 2 people or a family with 2 children.Kitchen furniture includes everything you need. The garden with pool is just as shown on the pictures - great relaxing guaranteed. You can reach the important sites of the southeast but you absolutely need a car. … see more

sheer bliss

Wonderful hosts who thought of everything we needed before we knew we needed it. A beautiful and sympathetic renovation of a traditional house and walled garden in an island where different cultures have come and gone over the centuries. Sit under the shade of the pomegranite trees in the garden, close your eyes and you will be transported to a place of peace and contentment. Modica, clinging to the sides of a steep gorge with it's cross between faded grandeur and modernity is a delight to stroll through and a photographers dream. Sitting in the street eating chocolate and brioche for breakfast and icecream for lunch, or excursions out to the many places of interest make the holiday fly past. Small house
Quiet, peaceful, comfortable with beautiful views.

We stayed in Piccola Casa in March and the almond blossoms were just starting to appear and the green hillsides were beautiful. We’d often have coffee on the patio, admiring the beautiful views over the valley below. The house is very neat and tidy and it is obvious that the owner has taken a lot of pride in keeping the house ready for guests. The bedroom loft was nice and cosy with plenty of places to spread out our things. Wireless Internet was great in the entire house with adequate speeds to download a movie for the evenings when we stayed in instead of going to Ragusa or Giarratana for dinner. Sunsets were fantastic and we would often find ourselves enjoying a bit too much of the local wine (very cheap) while taking them in. The house was perfect for us as we value our privacy and security. Access via the little road is fun and we even saw a fox one night! We’re hoping to stay there again next year if it is available during our vacation. We loved the people in the little town and the grocery store had everything that we needed. … see more
