Additional Location Information

The northern Spanish provinces of Cantabria and Asturias together form a large part of the area known as Green Spain,a region so far removed from the frenetic activity of Spain's southern resorts, it is easy to imagine that you are in an entirely different country. This is traditional, still largely undiscovered Spain where countryside and coast combine to reward visitors with a truly unforgettable experience.

We are a short drive from the the medieval town of
Santillana del Mar. There is absolutely no doubt that
Santillana is one of the most perfectly preserved medieval
villages anywhere in Spain and even Europe. To wander its
network of cobbled streets and alleys lined with ancient stone
houses has often been likened to entering a living museum.

In Puente Viesgo are the El Castillo Caves, famous for
prehistoric paintings of boars, bison and deer dating from the
end of the Ice Age. Such is the excellence and threedimensional
quality of these paintings, the caves have
become known as the Sistine Chapel of prehistoric art.

Mount 'El Castillo' in Puente Viesgo is the location of the most significant Palaeolithic heritage site in Europe.

All around us you'll find some of the most spectacularly
beautiful countryside imaginable. Lush green valleys and
forests, sleepy villages that have changed little in centuries.
Venture just a few miles from us and you'll quickly find the
majestic Picos de Europa Mountains rising to over 8,000 feet,
all combining to produce a landscape that will literally take
your breath away.

Pretty fishing villages can be found along the Cantabrian
coastline. Fresh seafood (including locally caught lobster and
clams) is prominent on local menus and there are some
exceptional dining spots to be found locally. The El Capricho
restaurant in the medieval town of Comillas was a former
summer residence of the Spanish Royals. The intricately
decorated building is one of the few outside Catalonia to be
designed by the great Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi.

Getting here couldn't be easier. We are only a simple 20
minute drive from Santander airport and ferry port. Bilbao
airport and ferry port is also within easy reach. Ryanair
provide cheap daily flights to Santander. Easyjet also fly daily
to Bilbao. Car hire and pick-up is provided at both airports. If
you wish to bring your own car (or hate flying) Brittany Ferries
sail to Santander. P&O; and AT Ferries also provide a twice
weekly service to Bilbao.
