Private chef on site, yoga, Reiki and massage available right here on your own private 200+ acre wildlife reserve and with Corcovado at our back door 1000's more pristine acres of untouched, pristine rainforest. The home design surmounts expectations and photos cannot show the bird garden in which the home sits! It's why we call it Lapa's Song Bird House! Only 8 miles to town, most tours within 20 minutes and no 4 wheel expedition style driving to go out for dinner like you have with most vacation rentals. Your home offers unparalleled privacy which is almost impossible to come by these days no matter where you stay unless you have a movie stars' budget! Get together a family group, business event and come see why the Osa Peninsula is referred to by National Geographic as “the most bio-intense” place on the planet!
• Can be rented as 3, 4 or 5 bedroom-must be rented as 5 BR in high season except at last minute. Ask when available as a smaller rental.
• 2 kitchens,4 living rooms, 5.5 baths, 5 bedrooms (king, queen, double/ beds) on 2 levels with horizon Aphrodite pool & wonderful Happy Hour dipping pool. Fibonacci design tootsie pool too at the sunning area (you can sunbathe here unlike at beach locations where that black sand will cook you!)
• 400 feet above sea level where it is cooler with ocean views & beaches in minutes. Beaches are a blast to play at for a few hours but the rest of the time are HOT and can be quite buggy (no see-ums will eat you alive- not kidding). Also, all beaches and up to 300 feet from high tide are PUBLIC areas and there is ZERO privacy- here you have complete privacy.
• Ocean views from both levels & the horizon pool
• On site optional guided hikes, private chef services, Yoga, Massage, Reiki
• Fun Eco Tours 10-20 minutes away with easy access paved road to most tours
• Only a few minutes to remote, deserted beaches- some are lake like and others have waves and others for surfing- you can try different beaches every day. Lodging on beaches is HOT at night with chocolate colored sands & the sand fleas dig in later afternoon & night so staying where it is elevated skirted by rainforest are the most desirable places to stay unlike some beach vacation destinations where it is cooler at the beach- here it is just the opposite- it is cooler where rainforest meets sea and elevated.
• 8 miles (13km to Puerto Jimenez)
• Close to airport, car rental, grocery, a cold beer, gas station and homemade ice cream!
**24 hour security
Named after red, blue and yellow Macaw Parrots here on The Osa Peninsula, “Shade of the Parrot- Sombra de la Lapa” Rainforest Reserve protects 200 + acres private rain forest just minutes from remote beaches. According to National Geographic Magazine, The Osa Peninsula is the most bio diverse area in the world and Lapa's Song vacation house rental is located right in the middle, surrounded by three types of monkeys, exotic birds and 100's of curious critters in the rain forest. Lapa's Song is the perfect home for large/small families or host your next corporate retreat or corporate vacation and workshop within our nature reserve. This unique experience is uniquely private. Enjoy our new Aphrodite horizon swimming pool scheduled to be completed in May.
Lapa's Song- the Bird House Rental is on the Osa Peninsula, in Southern Costa Rica, hidden in rainforest and near quiet beaches. Optional private chef services available, yoga, massage, Reiki, ozone therapies, and total and complete privacy. Dolphin and Wildlife Refuge close by, zip line and kayak tours too. This is a unique vacation accommodation on the Osa Peninsula Beaches, just North of Puerto Jimenez Hotels, where beaches are pristine & private. But where you can get away from the heat!!
The Osa Peninsula is the largest tract of lowland tropical rainforest in Central America. It is separated from mainland Costa Rica by the Golfo Dulce, one of just three tropical fjords on the planet, the sole anoxic basin on the entire Pacific coast of the Americas and the only place on earth where whales and dolphins from both hemispheres come to breed and raise their young. Is one of the wettest places on earth with about 360 inches of rain per year. Dominated by Corcovado National Park which protects most of the peninsula, the Osa is home to hundreds of endemic plant, animal and insect species, National Geographic recently called the Osa "the most biologically intense place on earth".
The Osa Península has been dubbed Costa Rica's last wilderness frontier. Rich in wildlife, sparsely populated and, until recently, having very difficult access, much of this highly forested area is conserved in national parks and private reserves such as ours. Towering rainforests line undeveloped beaches rather than tourists and condos and untouched coves, making this region one of the most beautiful anywhere on Earth. Recently the main road has been paved which has made accessibility much easier without spoiling the pristine nature of the Osa. Sombra de la Lapa wildlife rainforest reserve located where rainforest meets sea.
.Set on over 120 acres of wildlife reserve, the Lapa's Song vacation home is private and surrounded by wildlife. Tropical Paradise found. Wake up to ocean views, singing from a myriad of exotic tropical birds, hear the calls of the Congo (Howler) monkeys. The Titi (squirrel ) monkey is an endangered species but not here on the reserve. We have one of the largest populations of Titi monkeys in Costa Rica- over 350 of them. And you see them almost every day right here!
But the most spectacular thrill is seeing all the exotic tropical birds right in front of you. With awesome vantage points, you are delighted all day by all the birds here.
Located just off a newly paved road to Osa Peninsula, Puerto Jimenez, we are the only vacation rental homes (there are 3 spread out on 200+ acres) this close to Puerto Jimenez & town, Puerto Jimenez tours and deserted beaches close by. Amenities include standard conveniences, furnished kitchens, all linens included, fully furnished home costs less than staying at an Osa Peninsula eco-lodge or cabina. Here you will not have to lug your own ice to have refrigeration. Being right off a newly paved road, you will get a taste of adventure without spending at least 1.5 hrs just to get anywhere -no kidding, from other lodging it is at least an hour and a half to the grocery store, restaurants, tours, etc.
There are 2 suites available for this rental home. There is the Lapa's suite for 4 guests with two bedrooms, a queen and a double. Fully furnished and overlooking the Gulfo Ducle & amazing bird gardens. This suite has full kitchen, living & dining area and 2 bedrooms & full bath.

FYI- note on internet- while reliable much of the time, the internet can go out from time to time. We don't guarantee there will be internet since it is a country wide issue if it is out. Internet rental is available with car rentals. The Osa Peninsula rainforest and beaches are the most remote in the the entire country of Costa Rica. Visit, Corcovado National Park which is literally out our back door. Zip lines, organic coffee and chocolate tours. Dolphin spotting and monkeys galore. Satellite TV available beginning Dec holidays 2015....Read more

At 71 and 78, we wanted to see the birds we've been amazed by in books and documentaries. Not being inclined to travel in groups (birds don't like crowds either) this setting of solitude was perfect. Blondie's tireless efforts to help us with planning and logistics made it all the easier. This particular 2 story house is perfect for a family. We shared it with 2 friends. They have 2 other houses on the reserve, including their amazing 'tree house'. However, we never noticed their presence. Peace and quiet reigned. The house is fully equipped with anything you'd need, or you can drive to town (15 mins).
Jeff is a new addition to their reserve and helped get us out in the jungle right
on their reserve. Although Corcovado National Park borders their reserve, to explore any part of the Park is a daunting effort beyond our capabilities. Heat and humidity and terrain present definite limitations for older folks. There was plenty of beauty right where we were. Hearing the Howler monkeys was spooky and awesome as well as the variety of birds viewed from the upper deck.
The house itself is a lovely architectural pleasure with all the comforts. Unless you are with family or friends, I wouldn't want to share the upper part with someone down below.
Make sure to visit Patrick and Rubyann Dunn at their Osa ave Bird Sanctuary a fun 2 hour drive down the coast and through the jungle. Ask Blondie or Jeff. That was the highlight of our stay. Take them a fresh lunch, beer and Ibuprofen, all things hard to get due to their remote location.

We stayed in the Cranford's Toucan Suite. Our friends stayed in the upper level suite. The house sits on pristine jungle - the sound and sight of rare birds is a daily occurrence. We could easily walk to the river, explore the grounds which abound with exotic plants.Toucan Suite is the larger of the two units and is fully equipped with linens, kitchen utensils. We were able to borrow and exchange with our upstairs companions for the items that we needed (juicer, coffee grinder, garlic press) but it would be nice to have both kitchens equally stocked. The stove and refrigerator worked well. The issues that we had with staying at the Toucan Suite would be that the fans need to be upgraded. There are two ceiling fans that function well, although the "blue bedroom" fan makes too much noise to sleep through. There were two portable fans; one of them was okay but the other one barely moved the blades and eventually went comatose. Fortunately our friends in the upper unit had powerful ceiling fans and two super powerful portable fans and they lent us one which saved us! I strongly suggest the Cranfords upgrade the fans in the Toucan Suite. The lovely wooden doors that lead from the main floor to the porch area need to be fixed. They are off their track so we were unable to close them when the hot eastern sun shone through. The house would be much cooler if these functioned well. Blondie and Michael have a sign asking that we remove our shoes before entering and I complied with this request the first night. I found the floor really dirty and in the evening the ants, frogs and other insects would come in so we kept our shoes on. The house could use a good cleaning and some general upkeep. The upstairs suite seemed cleaner and because of the fans, cooler. The views from the upstairs suite are to die for. As the Cranfords note, the Internet seldom works consistently. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend the Toucan Suite. Read more
It was lovely to have you and meet for the brief moment! We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We had most of our contact with the friends you travelled with and gave a sizable discount since the house is not yet ready to be rented as separate suites. The portable fans have been replaced- wish we knew while you were here as we have new replacements stored in our bodega. We checked the ceiling fan in the blue room and found that it was at the absolute highest speed which is like an industrial speed! and yes, if used on that speed, is louder than the other speeds!
Since this suite is a more budget price compared to our other 2 homes on the reserve, until holidays 2013, it is furnished with basics such as microwave oven, coffee maker, stove, oven, new refrigerator, blender and pots, pans, dishes, bakeware, storage bowls, silverware, drink pitchers and a variety of kitchen tools. We have not furnished it with more detailed items yet such as garlic press mostly because due to our location, they are not available. We have on site cleaning staff had we known there was any desire for additional cleaning, would have absolutely sent them over. This was the first we heard of it. Each weekly guest has a mid week change of linens and complete cleaning so we had no idea the guests would have liked more. We hope that one day you return or don't hesitate to recommend friends or family. We are very glad you enjoyed the bird life. At the Toucan suite level, the birds are literally right at eye sight as they swoop down to TH manicured lawns in search of insects, fruits. And the bird nests abound in the gardens surrounding this home. Bird watching is amazing from either level. We are glad you enjoyed that!
This is the newest home in our repertoire of private homes on the reserve so upgrades are in process for 2013. Being the only neighbor we had, when told the owners had to sell, we knew we had to make an offer. Adding Lapa's Song to our repertoire, we have protected the privacy of all our guests since there are no other homes and no neighbors! It allows us to appeal to a wider audience since the house can be rented with either one or both suites. Currently, we are only renting the house entirely until we have had a chance to make it more private between the levels. We don't rent the other suite if you have reserved one of the two. It either stays empty or we are there ourselves.
If planning a trip to Costa Rica, please note we have 3 very different homes on the reserve. As we move along in 2013, we are adding more and more items besides basics to the home. By holidays 2013/2014, the house will be more updated and include a pool (holidays 2013). For now, we rent it at a budget price which most guests will find far exceeds their expectations for the price and privacy, proximity to paved roads and easy access to everywhere. Our other home is a more luxury home and the third is a tree house! We'd love to have you at any!

My wife & I rented their other house (Lapa's Home) a few years ago but wanted to return for a longer stay. We have come to the Osa a number of times & were glad to find this place- it is really a wildlife reserve! For one week it was just 2 of us & we rented only the top level suite called the Trogan suite. The other 2 weeks we had family & friends visit so we added the other available suite called the Toucan suite. It was perfect for all of us! It was nice that when we had just the 2 of us, we didn't have to pay for the other suite For what you pay, wow what a deal. We could not find anything less expensive on the Osa Peninsula and we felt that we got a steal. And ocean views to boot! We were also thrilled to be off the beach because it is really hot down there at night- we stayed at a lodge a few years ago on the beach and preferred to be off the beach last time we were here. Fyi- it is hot & buggy at the beaches at night & they don't have electricity except for solar which we found to be totally inadequate- we had no fans at night after the batteries drained, refrigerator was not cold... At this house, we didn't have to worry about any of that. We had regular electricity & even internet service with WiFi. And plenty of ice!
There is enough privacy for 2 families in this 2 suite home, whether you are together or they rent separately. Because it is a completely separate rental, our guests had their own kitchen,2+ bedrooms, 2 full baths, kitchen& living room with plenty of space to spread out. We loved the suite for 2 while there were only 2 of us. It was quick & easy to get to tours from here. The owner Blondie set up all our tours & even arranged our car rental & flights.
All in all I would definitely recommend this place for those who are on a budget & still want clean & comfortable above what other budget places give you. There is fresh water swimming within 3 minutes walking! Thanks Mike & Blondie & caretakers too! Read more
