Our stay at this beautiful home was a highlight of our recent trip to Costa Rica. The layout lends itself to premium family bonding - cooking together in the open air kitchen, curled up reading together on the comfortable outside couches, going for a dip in the pool. The great part of all this is the lengths of time spent outdoors in the warm scented air, bird sounds all around, howler monkeys calling, and other monkeys swinging by the house each am and pm. Gilberto was there when we needed him and took our family on a hike through the nature reserve early one morning, something we wouldn't have done on our own. Nearby beaches at MatoPalo especially Backwash beach - unforgettable.
“Beautiful spot, clean, well maintained, no issues, owners helpfu”

“Luxury in the rain forest”
My family stayed in the luxury home over Thanksgiving and what an incredible experience this was. If you are looking for a place to have lots of fun in a unique and peaceful location this is it. Whether we were cooking and hanging out in the open living room or coming back from an adventure, this home met all our needs. The pictures do not do it justice. It is wonderful. Mike and Blondie were the kindest and most helpful hosts one could ask for. They went way above to do many little extra things for us. The caretakers were so helpful too. Anna keeps the home so clean. The kids were in the pool a lot and our family had such a great time. This is not just an ordinary home/experience. This is a once in a life time experience a family will remember and talk about forever. Can you imagine being in the pool and your kiddos yelling "look look the monkeys are coming through". Well that is how I describe staying at this home. On our last night everybody went around and said where they would like to go next and there were many responses to come right back here. That has never happened, but then we have never stayed in an open air home in the rain forest, One day we were waterfall repelling and the next just laying in a hammock reading. The balance was wonderful. The view of the ocean, rain forest and little town lights was amazing. We would just stare out our big open air view at this scene for hours. The top room that is all open was the best. We would actually wake up to see monkeys in the trees. If you are looking for the most incredible home in the most incredible place-this is it. My family had many lovely and lively moments here. That is what we loved about it-the excitement of all we did and the peacefulness that surrounded us was the perfect match. Don't leave the Osa without going on the boat, going to the animal refuge center, eating chocolate at the farm and the many places Blondie can tell you about. Say hello to the monkeys for us !

“Trip of a lifetime!”
Incredible, amazing, awesome, exciting, the best! What can we say? It was the best trip of our lives - so far! We can't wait to go back. First, Blondie is so helpful. Actually, Mike, Roberto and anna were equally accommodating. Second, the house was incredibly beautiful. The beds were comfortable and big, the sheets and pillows high quality. The showers were unique - who thought bathing could be such a special experience. The grounds were lush and well kept. The kitchen was well stocked. We cooked a lot and had everything we needed. The views were breathtaking, especially from the top bedroom. We were speechless a few times at sunset. Very romantic! Peurta Jimenez was a great little town with some very good restaurants and a good grocery store. There wasn't much we couldn't find. If you are up for adventure then there is much to do. We zip lined, kayaked, repelled down waterfalls, went boating in the Gulfo Dulche, went to a monkey refuge, went horseback riding on the beach, toured a cocoa plantation, hiked, swam in the ocean, and jammed with local musicians. But if you want solitude and long naps, you can have that too. We were not ready to come home. Costa Rica is more beautiful than we imagined. A week is simply not enough. Two weeks isn't enough. We can't say enough about Mike and Blondie. They are truly incredible hosts and they keep a wonderful home. We've stayed in a lot of vacation homes and this is so far the best.
Don't miss this!
“The Fabulous Osa at Lapa's Home”
Wow, you have to see it to believe it. A web-site doesn't begin to touch what you will really experience. Watch Scarlett macaws and spiders monkeys as you have your morning coffee. -Fantastic hosts that will customize your trip as you wish with Local Knowledge that you can't get from books or agents. -An option of accommodations to fit your style and group size, they provide VIP treatment for budget travelers (me) to luxury service. -I loved the seclusion of my own private paradise and felt total immersion with the Osa while I was there. -They did all the homework for my last minute add on trip to Corcovado NP, and made it happen for me! Without their insight, I wouldn't have taken the collectivo, walked 2 miles down a remote beach, stayed at a luxury tent camp and hiked into the park. Blondie and Michael are incredible hosts, and I am excited about my next visit with new adventures.

“Best vacation ever!!!”
Peace and tranquility, finally a true vacation and adventure. Not only were we greeted by our hosts, but also a troup of squirrel monkeys! Hey, we're in the jungle now! Our house was everything and more than we had imagined: Solace for sore eyes, an art gallery; everywere composition and beauty with the environment. You don`t have to leave the grounds to experience the jungle. Just sit and enjoy: Scarlet Mcaws soaring above your head or playing in the trees by your house, Tucans do their fly by every day, Howler monkeys wake you in the morning as you watch the mist roll in off the Golfo Dulce and disperse as the sun rises higher in the blue sky. Even though there are 3 homes on the property, you never see, hear or encounter the other guests (unless you want to). The caretakers are available 24/7 if needed (bi-lingual) and one could be your personal chef (cinnamon rolls to drool over). Thanks! What I'm trying to say is that it was the best vacation in my life. Went home rested, peace of mind, and a lot of new friends.
“A Chance to Commune with Nature”
My husband and I stayed at Lapa's Home in January with our two teenage sons, and I can say without doubt that I've never stayed in a house so interesting and creative, nor one that allows such close contact with nature. The living room, dining area, and kitchen are open air, and it was not uncommon for a giant butterfly to flutter through as we were hanging out on the couch. Each day, we watched monkeys swing through the canopy just feet away from us, and we spent a whole morning watching a mama sloth moving like molasses through a tree right beside the living room, her baby clamped like a starfish to her belly. Masses of macaws, toucans, and scores of other birds flew around (and occasionally through!) the house each day. This open air living is not for everyone, but if you want to experience the wildlife of the Osa, this is the place. The experience is edgy in the very best way--you're not looking at the jungle through double-paned glass in a climate-controlled hotel room, you're living right in it. During cicada season (which is when we were there), that means dealing with the nearby racket of cicadas and occasionally having them dive bomb you at night when they're drawn to the house lights. For me, that kind of experience is a plus--making the tropical experience real and not some kind of Disney fabrication. We loved the little swimming pool, accessed by its toad-proof stepping stones. We loved the many artistic touches throughout the house created by Michael and Blondie, who were helpful and friendly and gave wonderful tips on where to go and what to do. Our stay there was truly memorable and we have recommended it to our adventurous friends!
“Great Beautiful Wedding at an Exquistive Location”
My husband and I stayed at Lapa's Home as part of a wedding celebration! The house was just perfect. We arrived and had adventure right away. We arrived just after there had been a pretty good rain and there was a tree down in the driveway! We climbed over it and walked in! Blondie and Mike sent the caretaker to remove the tree right away and drove our car in for us. We absolutely loved the adventure and that the house is right at the cusp of the rainforest and close to the beach. We loved the open air design of the house and appreciated the screened bedrooms. We were surprised by the lack of insects and delighted by what visitors we did have. Daily visits by frogs hopping around, butterflies flying right through the house and my favorite were the hummingbirds which fly right into the house to feed from the beautiful exotic tropical flower arrangements. We had a few visitors of gladiator frogs which are adorable frogs with suction cup like hands and feet. We had daily visits with a few different kinds of monkeys while we sat at the pool deck sipping frosty umbrella drinks! We had such adventure hiking with their guides to a beautiful waterfall, went kayaking in the mangroves and hung around this beautiful reserve taking in all the sounds of the rainforest. The soothing views of the ocean topped off this amazing place. The house is a creative architectural style and art and so fitting. Open air living, even for a week is not for you if you are phobic of wildlife. But this is why our family chose this place for their wedding. It has the perfect combination of easy access to going everywhere, complete privacy, beautiful landscaped gardens and wild pristine rain forest. And we loved the house and location. It was also nice having caretakers we could go to if we had questions but basically it felt comforting to know we were not alone in the wilderness, but we felt as if we were!

“Hope This Helps”
The owners of this house have said some interesting things about the three families who wrote bad reviews, and for you the reader this is almost certainly a "he said, she said". I am the spouse of one of the original reviewers, we have two pre-teen children. Finger pointing and such is useless and silly, I agree with the reviews from our other members in totality, and am furious that the owners of this house have taken great pains to smudge our character and truthfulness. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, here are several I took while enduring a stay at the Lapas house...reading between the lines will not be necessary.
We had the best experience ever and Blondie was so helpful in arranging all we wanted to do. We say every animal we hoped to and enjoyed the rain forest in every way. If we make it back to Costa Rica this is where we will come back to. The open air of the house was wonderful along with the views and breezes from the ocean!
