Additional Location Information

Conveniently located near the famous OLAS ALTAS STREET with restaurants, boutiques, outdoor cafes, clubs and the most popular beach LOS MUERTOS.
Also minutes from THE MALECON, the one mile long oceanfront boardwalk that stretches the length of downtown Vallarta, 15-16 city blocks. Near the south is the large outdoor amphitheater Los Arcos (the Arches) where entertainment and outdoor attractions occur such as the Xiutla folkloric dancers, live music, cultural events and popular clown shows in the evening. The Puerto Vallarta malecon boardwalk is popular at sunset and up until around 11pm or so, by which time most people are returning home or headed out to their favorite downtown night clubs. Half the town strolls on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Along the way there are a number of pleasant art works and sculptures. This area has become a particularly popular hangout as one can catch a bite to eat from one of the food stalls, taco stands and restaurants, or stop at a dessert shop or bar along the way to relax and people watch. In addition there are small shops, vendors, a municipal flea market and street artists creating and selling a variety of Mexican handicrafts, souvenirs, jewelry, trinkets and gifts for friends or family.

TRANSPORTATION
BUS:
When you board the bus pay your fare, no big bills, the driver will make change for a 20 peso bill.
Hold On ! The bus takes off quickly, even while making change for you. HOLD ON.....GET TO A SEAT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE! Note: the two seats behind the driver, often painted yellow, are reserved for the aged, infirm or pregnant. The destinations are painted on the buses and they are either CENTRO or TUNEL. TUNEL bypasses and gets you to downtown quicker, whereas CENTRO goes all through the downtown area.

As of 3/28/13 it's now 7.5 Pesos to almost everywhere, unless you go out of Puerto Vallarta.
Example: The South Side of Vallarta to Boca de Tomatlan (about 6 miles south) is 8 Pesos. To El Tuito is 20 pesos.

Car Rental

The absolute best, and most economical way , to rent a car here is by booking on line before you arrive. Best to book on-line Gecko Rent a Car, who, although they are in Bucerias, will pick you up at the airport. geckorentcar.com. it is the only car rental companies I can honestly recommend, ask for Dennis

Taxi

Before entering the taxi, ask the driver what the fare will be to your destination,Tips are not required, unless you feel it is warranted.
Tips from drivers on where to eat etc. are not reliable (they will be getting a kickback). There have been some recent complaints of taxi drivers taking people to different places than requested because of this. If the driver tells you the place is closed or he doesn't know where it is - take another taxi. Also taxi drivers may not know the street names. Even local residents don't know the names of the streets, I've had neighbors who didn't know the name of the street two blocks away. They do know places, I've been given directions like "Turn right on the street just past where the car wash used to be"
