“family vacation in Ecuador” When we got to Quito we had no car waiting for us. One was reseved but Hertz gave it to some one on Friday. So Maria offered us a driver with 2 cars who took us everywhere. Without him we could not have done it. His name is Carlos and if you plan on going there we recommened him. The house we stayed at was beautiful it had everything you needed. We felt at home and Maria and her husband made certain that we felt comfortable.

“Fine location, what a view!” This is a wonderful little apartment in a nice, quiet neighborhood. It has great access to both the old and new parts of town. The view from the roof terrace is unbeatable. It is small, and you need to climb a flight of stairs plus a spiral staircase, but it is well worth it. Sandra is a great bilingual host who made us feel most welcome. We highly recommend this apartment. The only downside is that the kitchen is very small, making extensive meal prep out of the question. But simple things like breakfast, pasta, or anything you can do with two burners, no problem. Our guess is most people like to eat out more than we do and restaurants are a plentiful with a short (inexpensive) cab ride. For the price, this can't be beat in Quito.

“After a great stay in this fine apartment in Quito, Lonely Plane” Ecuador's just been named Lonely Planet's fourth best country to visit in the world. The only one in Latin and Central america. I certainly appreciated every aspect of this startlingly beautiful and lively country. In Quito I was lucky enough to stay in this superb apartment in the heart of Colonial Quito. The town around is stunning, but the place too was spacious, light, great bed, kitchen and bathroom in a refurbished palace with 24 hour security and a garage slot if you need it. The owner Dani was super helpful, picked us up from the airport and speaks excellent English and Italian. Michael

“interesting experience” My husband and I and our son and his wife spent a week in Quito in March. We started out in this condo but half the city, or so, went down with no water after two nights so we moved to the owner's other condo across town. As such, my review for this one is brief as we spent little time there. It's on a very steep street. Be prepared to taxi back if you're not one to huff and puff up the street. It's close to the old town area with shops and restaurants. The street had a lot of loud traffic, we didn't open the street side windows due to the noise. The kitchen was fairly adequately stocked, it lacked a few basics, such as a colander and a clean sponge and veggie wash and dish soap but we had just spent a week in a condo in Cuenca that was superbly stocked so perhaps we were spoiled. There were no windows inthe bedroom to open for ventilation. Beds were comfortable, linens and pillows fine. I might recommend this to family and friends.

About Quito

Quito is Ecuador's capital and the country's second-biggest city. It resides in exquisite natural surroundings shielded by a volcano that features two peaks, known as Pichincha. It takes just a few hours to get accustomed to Quito's high elevation, and then this former Incan city becomes an inviting destination buzzing with plenty of activity and attractions. There is a wealth of culture and arts for visitors to enjoy, all heavily influenced by its Spanish colonial character. Architecture, archeology, and history are all around you as well. Retail enthusiasts will have plenty to smile about since shopping in Quito is full of options while night owls are bound to take advantage of the buzzing Quito nightlife.

Some of the attractions you will want to experience include:

  • Independence Plaza: This plaza is considered a jewel resting in the middle of the Andes Mountains. It is surrounded by four spectacular structures, including the Archbishop's Palace, the Cathedral, the Government Palace, and the Municipal palace. It is truly a breathtaking sight to behold.
  • San Francisco Church and Plaza: San Francisco de Quito, Quito's oldest church, is a large complex residing on over 8,500 acres. It showcases architecture that is a combination of styles, including Baroque in the interior and ornate Moorish details on section of the ceiling. In pre-Columbian days, this area was a large Indian marketplace.
  • Metropolitan Cultural Center: This historical structure is situated next to the Government's Palace. It was built in the 17th century by Jesuits. A fight for independence took place here in August of 1810 and the Alberto Mena Caamano Museum was created in honor of the massacre that ensued.
  • Quito Botanical Garden: Ecuador is known for its exquisite variety of plants. In this garden, visitors will find 1,200 orchid varieties as well as numerous other unique species indigenous to the region.
  • Terefico: This is a small cable car that carries guests up part of the Pichincha Volcano.
  • The Guayasamin Museum: This museum is dedicated to one of the country's most celebrated artists, Guayasamin. Guayasamin was an avid collector of Ecuadorian art and had planned to find a home for his collection. He was not able to before his death, so the museum was created in his honor.

Quito is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in South America. A vacation rental here can bring all of the exciting options of the city right to your doorstep. An apartment or condo downtown keeps you in the center of all the activity and something situated closer to the ocean provides excellent beachfront views.

Beautiful Suite Tamayo in Quito Mariscal
You Will Love This Place

We were recently the first people lucky enough to stay at this apartment. For a South american apartment it is very spacious and easily sleeps 4. It has a modern design and is beautifully decorated. The owner lives very far away but a friend of hers who takes care of the apartment while she is away was very attentive to my father and I. It was in a great area (La Mariscal) which is a very famous bar area for the young Ecuadorian crowd. It also had excellent things to do close by, such as La Casa de la Cultura, different parks, and it is about a block or so from Mercado artesanal. The apartment was extremely clean as well and I was very happy with our stay. The only thing that would have been perfect is a flexible check out option. Our flight did not leave until 11 pm but check out was around 2 (I believe). In any event, it caused us to have to pay for an extra day, so a little flexibility there would have been nice.see more

This is realy one of the best places you can stay closed to Quito. Its quite and natural, closed to the city while its closed to the nature! Its surrounded by a fantastic view and it gives space for what ever you might imagine! By the way you will be more than impressed by the harmonic architechture. Quito Old Town - Balcon de la Cuenca
a great location and a terrific apartment.

We really enjoyed our stay at Francisco's apartment! He waw very accomodating and the place is a good location in Old Town Quito. The hills back up after dinner were tough to climb but a $2-3 cab ride fixed that problem! You can walk to all the places in Old town that you'd want to visit. It'a a 2-story flat and had wonderful views out the windows. We would definitely stay there again. Our daughter lives in Quito but she stayed with us for convenience and she really liked the place and the location. Both bedrooms are upstairs.see more

Lovely Place, Great Choice - Can't Wait to Come Back

We stayed in July after a week in the Amazon. There were seven of us - two families with children. We all loved Wantara Suites, and thought it was the perfect place to stay in Quito. The location is terrific - very convenient for exploring old Town Quito - and the setting feels removed, even though it is in a dense neighborhood, because the units all face a beautiful garden and are separated from the street by high walls. But you still get views of the surrounding hills. Wolfgang and Andy are super helpful and friendly. And the suites are beautifully, artfully furnished and decorated, and so well appointed - everything you need for your stay is there (and more). We cooked, lounged, hammocked, played scrabble on the deck, and slept very well. (Great showers too!). In sum, we enjoyed our stay so much that we immediately began scheming as to how and when we could come back.see more
Balcon de la Cuenca beautiful apartment in Quito
Huffing and puffing to get there but worth it

This is a very nice place. Makes you feel right at home. A short walk to all the museums and plazas in downtown Quito. We had two inconveniences: one of the shower stalls did not have hot water and problems with the wifi connection. Both were noted to the owner/manager and immediately were fixed. The hot water is temperamental but once you find the sweet spot with the hot water valve you get rewarded. Overall this an excellent place to stay. The administrators were courteous and responsive. The place is clean and well furnished and very affordable. I would not hesitate to come back and stay at the Balcon de la Cuenca.see more
