Additional Location Information

This villa offers incredible unimpeded views for at least 30km.over the surrounding fertile countryside and over no less than 21 traditional villages! There are views also towards the sea and beaches of Georgioupolis and to the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) in the west.
There is easy access via a dirt road to the village road into Kastellos (1.5km), with its old Kafeneions and Taverna and then to the centre of the village of Armeni (5mins), with its various Kafeneions, Tavernas and village shops. Armeni has frequent bus services to Rethymno and various South Coast Villages. The natural surroundings allow for enjoyable, peaceful walks around the countryside, down into the ravine and along to the church of Agia Paraskevi where one can picnic by the spring and use the basic Barbecue facilities provided by the community.
The ancient Venetian Town/ Port of Rethymno lies just above 10 mins away. Rethymno has excellent medical facilities, a multitude of shops, well-stocked supermarkets and colourful Old Town tavernas, offering a wide variety of both ethnic and international cuisine.
Immediately to the east of Rethymno lie long sandy beaches offering excellent bathing, water sports and a large selection of seaside Tavernas. The National Road, with access to Chania (60min) and Iraklio (65min), is a mere 10 minutes away from Kastellos. Souda (Chania), Rethymno and Iraklio all have Ferry Ports offering daily Car/ Passenger Ferry Services to Piraeus [Athens] and an assortment of other Islands.
Chania International Airport can be reached within 60 minutes and Iraklio Airport in 70mins.

The Venetian harbour
From 1300, Rethymno's harbour was constantly being changed and re-built to make it safer and hold more boats. Due to the prevailing currents along the coast, this was never entirely successful. It retains its picturesque character even today.

The Loggia
The most characteristic Renaissance monument of Rethymnon and the most important architectural reminder of the Venetian occupation.

The Rimondi Fountain
Rebuilt in 1626 on the foundation of the earlier one, the new fountain is architecturally and sculptural ornate.

Saint Franciscus Church
The catholic monastery of the Franciscan order. It sports a single sloped wooden roofed basilica with an impressively decorated entrance.

The Neratzies, the Kara Mousa, the Great Door, and the Veli Pasa mosque.
The five surviving mosques are a reminder of the years of the Turkish occupation. Of these, the first is the only one that can be visited, which is used today as a music conservatory.

The Prefecture Building (Nomarchia)
Built after 1869 is a commemorative building in neo-classic design.

The Old Town
Has been preserved in good condition with the public and private monuments of the Venetian, Turkish and later periods.

The sandy beach, and the nearest mini-market, tavernas and small shops can be found in Stavromenos, approximately 2 km away. The village of Perama with a wide variety of tavernas, shops, post office, and a bank, can be found at a distance of 10 km.

Interesting outings can be made to the traditional village of Margarites, the ruins of old Eleftherna, and the famous monastery of Arkadi. Due to the quiet setting, we consider a car to be essential.
