My husband and I spent a lovely, relaxing week at Lakewood August 16-23, 2014. We had just completed a wonderful, but action-packed, week with our children, their spouses, our grandchildren and assorted friends at Dorothy’s Lodge. The peace and quiet at Lakewood was a welcome change of pace. Our family has been going to the Chaffey’s Lock area for 34 years. Opinicon is our favorite Rideau lake, and the large screened in porch gave us an uninterrupted view from one end of the lake to the cottage. Sunrises were spectacular. One evening after being chased off the lake by approaching lightning (of course, with a huge bass nibbling my hook), we sat on the porch and watched the storm approach from the other end of the lake for over an hour. It was awesome.
The walk from the cottage to the dock was manageable, even considering my recent knee replacement. The interior of the cottage is clean, bright, cheery and spacious – loved the knotty pine! We’ve already re-booked Dorothy’s and Lakewood for summer 2015. The Carbino’s, who manage both properties are very interested in suggested improvements and respond immediately to any need.

I am from Europe and overall the booking process was good. However be aware Canada is still very paper cheque based. Electronic payment still new here. So allow some extra time and effort to make it work.
The cabin is fantastic for those looking for quiet family friend times. We loved the seclusion. We were also blessed with perfect sunny warm October weather. Sunrises over the lake directly in front of the cabin were fantastic. Everything we needed (Bedding, Kitchen, barbecue, fire pit, canoe) was great and as advertised. The cabin was clean and well prepared.
The lake and bay are beautiful. however if you are looking for swimming the bay is suited for fishing and boating not swimming. Suited us fine for the first week in October.
Great place for a quiet recharge.
