We were an extended family of 38, ranging in age from 2 months to several in their seventies and coming from England, South Carolina, Yukon, B.C., Ontario and Quebec. What a neat place to accommodate so many; nooks and crannies for quiet reading, puzzles, crafts, games, discussions; large grassy area for group games, trees for hammocks, and a large deck for lots of fun on and in the water. Robin and Catherine were very helpful with questions and needs.

If you refer back to my daughter-in-law' Sara O's review from August 2014, our first experience with Dorothy's Lodge was fantastic -- a view shared by all participants. The family returned this August, with increased numbers and again had an outstanding experience. Among the guests are our 4 grandchildren, ages 7-11, and they love Dorothy's and the various opportunities for swimming, fishing and frog-chasing right off the dock, and the many other water activities the lakes provide.
In its second year we expected to see some wear and tear due to the hundreds of people passing through the buildings and grounds. However, the accommodations were as bright and shiny as last year. We gave our 2015 reservations to Catherine and Robin before we left.

We rented Dorothy's Lodge for a three generation reunion of families from Ontario and Alberta . There were twenty-three of us for the whole week with several friends and family dropping in for visits and short stays. Ages ranged from young babies to baby boomers. The facility met all our needs. The beds were comfortable, the rooms allowed for various configurations, the bathrooms were many and modern, the kitchen suited perfectly cooking for a large group, recreational facilities kept us busy playing pool or lounging by the water on the private dock. The place was big enough to accommodate group activities, but still allowed places to curl up with a book. It was the perfect blend of old Ontario architecture, and modern convenience.
Robin and Catherine were most accomodating and responded to issues as they arose (empty propane tanks). The folks at Brown's Marina and General store were also very helpful with boat rental and repair. We slipped into Elgin to play ball on the school diamond and pick up groceries - very handy. All in all it was the perfect holiday.

Our family reunion required accomodation and dining for 30. I looked all across Southern Ontario and found very few places that could satisfy our needs. Knowing that web sites don't always tell you all the details. my brother and I visited the Lodge in November to see it in person.
Robin gave us a tour and we booked for the last week in May. Family from England, Alberta and Ontario all arrived and were very impressed with the set up. The main lodge housed all the younger families with children and the Annex and the other cabins provided places for the rest. The week went by in a blur as people rotated from sitting on the dock and fishing to playing baseball and enjoying the two fire pits in the evening..
Cooking for this large group was a pleasure in the commercial kichen.
Everyone found lots to do in the area and we can heartily recommend this venue to other large groups.

Just came back from a retreat with my varsity men's and women's cross country teams (30 people) and am blown away by how great this place was for our purposes. The immediate evirons are fantastic for running (also cycling, if that's your thing), and the proximity to the water (for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and water running) was a huge bonus. And after workouts, the lodge was a very spacious place to unwind. Then there was the full-sized commercial kitchen, in which two of us were easily able to feed and clean up for 30 people 3x/day with minimal effort (mealtime was actually a highlight!). We are already booked for next year. Can't imagine a more ideal place for the active vacationer or group!

After years of vacationing on Lake Opinicon, our family chose Dorothy's Lodge as our destination this year and we could not have chosen more wisely. Highlights included the private dock which was not only convenient for water activities but also a fun place for the kids to swim and a picturesque location for the adults to relax. Also outside, the fire-pit was the perfect spot to gather at the end of the day and gave us a chance to enjoy each other and some Smores. In addition, the property has been lovingly restored and was a comfortable place to spend the week, with many amenities. It is evident that the property owners, Robin and Catherine, take pride in Dorothy's Lodge and are eager for a future of happy guests. They went above and beyond to help make our trip a success, including assisting with prior arrangements and being receptive to our needs during the stay. Even for a small group of less than 15, Dorothy's Lodge proved reasonably priced. We look forward to returning next year.

We rented Dorothy's Lodge for a family reunion and couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. All 46 family members were so impressed with Dorothy's Lodge and equally with the area of Chaffey's Lock. The Main Lodge was perfect for rainy evenings as there was plenty of room for all of us and plenty to do with the pool table and a couple of big screen TVs to keep both adults and kids satified. The extra large kitchen made for great kitchen parties and the men actually enjoyed doing the cooking and dishes using all the commercial appliances. Many commented on how comfortable the beds were.
Our days were spent on the huge dock which had lots of room for everyone to sit without being splashed by the kids in and out of the lake. There is a BBQ right on the dock and the hut on the dock was fantastic to house coolers, kids water toys, and the bar and bar fridge were well used! Everyone enjoyed watching the boats go by along the canal. It was nice to be in the calm, quiet area of the canal just off the lake as we were in a no wake zone which made for awesome swimming and shelter from big winds and waves. There is also a shaded sitting area just outside the main lodge.
The large back yard was great for kids and adults alike. There was lots of room for a volleyball net and bocci ball too. The fire pit was great in the evening.
The parking lot accomodated everyone's cars and did not obstruct any of the fabulous views. There is a boat launch beside the property if you are bringing yours. We docked our 27' boat at the dock and there was still plenty of room for swimming.
There is a Lcbo/Beer Store/General Store within walking distance which was super convenient. Owners Robin and Catherine could not have been more helpful and ensured we were happy throughout our stay. It was the perfect spot for our reunion and comforting to know once people arrived no one had to drive elsewhere and we spent the weekend together as a family. We will be back!
